I get the feeling that Sky Sports don't like us, this will be the third year in a row that Sky have shown this fixture early in the season and we've been battered both times.

We need a major improvement in our defence if we are to even be competitive in this match. I hope I'm wrong but with the likes of Walmsely, Tasi and Amor running at our weak in depth pack this could prove to be another disastrous night.

I just hope to god we play Niall at full back, there's no way we can afford to be playing Gareth O'Brian again after all the handling errors he made against Hull FC, Luke Walsh will tear us to pieces.

I expect fluctuation and tactical changes as the game progresses.

I was expecting a noisy,supportive Salford crowd behind their players from start to finish.

Optimism is a faint and poorly spark, deep in the guts of Salford fans. After decades of making-up the numbers and watching our schizophrenic Club be world-beaters one week and an under elevens side the next, it takes the tiniest pressure fart from the anus of a RL gnat to extinguish hope, life, and the universe.

At least until the next pre-season.

If tonights gate is over 4, I'll be shocked. I have seen literally no promotion or advertisement about the build up to the new season, maybe I'm looking in the wrong places.

The deal they offered a few seasons ago, 3 tickets for £50, that should stay for the opening 3 games of every season. It at least gains a small amount of interest and if we win 2 out the opening 3 at home, people maybe inclined to stick with us for a few extra games.

Hope having saints at home for 3rd year in a row and on Sky, doesn't do much for the Salford public. Didn't we get nilled 2 year ago and got a try at the death last year? Don't know why sky keep putting this fixture in television, is against Widnes if a few weeks would of been a better watch for neutrals.

Yeah the advertising side of things doesn't seem to be getting much better I personally have not seen many offers for the game either.

I must admit I haven't seen much marketing myself either. It seemed better when Vickers was here, at least he came from a marketing background.

We don't even do the simple things, sending out posters to local schools, local pubs, local teams, local coffee shops, local bars, local community centres. How difficult is it to print a couple of A4 posters off, get a database of local business and send them out on a fortnightly basis.

I personally think giving local kids free tickets or £10 season tickets is the way forward that's how I got into RL , when I was at school Salford give u16s a season ticket for £1 and then you paid normal prices after that but by then you was hooked and mithered you're parents to get it the following season and back then it was pretty cheap still.

I'm just looking for an improvement on last week's performance; something to give us a bit of optimism heading in to our next couple of fixtures.

I don't think anyone expects us to win tonight, but if we can be competitive and play with a bit of spirit it will be an encouraging sign.

To be fair I'll settle for the backs to look as good as Saints and for the forwards not to get monstered.

What did people think of Lui last Friday? I may of had a few shandies, but it seemed he never took the line on? Only Sau and BMM came out the game with any credit for me.

I have said this for years and years that free kids season tickets issued to every school kid up until say 12 and then a couple of quid for 13-16 would make such a massive difference. I came in late 80's / early 90's this way and i am still here 20 years later. We were as bad back then as we are now but still hooked on them no matter what. Kids will mither mum and dad and in turn brings them in.

I have also called for the Junior Devils to be set-up again. Another insensitive that in the day worked so well at a Semi-pro club. These days of "professionalism" (I use that term loosely with Salford) it would work even better I think.

Spot on the exact same thing with me in the late 90s about 12 of us from school used to all go and have a good laugh at the willows and 7 of us still go to games now, and that was just my group of mates I am convinced this will bring new fans to the game, also the stadium wont look so pathetically empty and generate a better atmosphere . Like you say will encourage the kids parents to the games as well and some will no doubt be hooked.

I agree that we need to get the kids in, and well-priced season tickets is a good way to do this. However, the main thing we need is a team that inspires confidence. A team that makes us think we will win.

We've just beaten Saints. A fantastic result that nobody on here (including myself!) predicted. I'm absolutely made up. Delirious! But, the truth is this: that was the easy bit! The hard bit is backing it up with another win. And another! I don't think we have ever won three games on the trot in Super League, have we? If we can offer a winning (okay, I'll settle for competitive!) team, we'll begin to attract the fans back. Here's hoping!

Did anyone think the atmosphere was good on Thursday? sitting in the west stand i heard a little but i thought it was quiet. Maybe due to the shock of how easy it was i dunno but i hope we have a better atmosphere on sunday
