If he were injured, don't you think the club would be quick to acknowledge it and stop all this speculation?
The silence speaks volumes!

| In the right way I hope Evalds is injured as dropping him to play our most creative player out of position in a make or break game seems like folly.
Evalds is one of the most exciting talents I've seen for a good while in a Salford shirt, likewise Fages is deserving of the huge wraps he gets, for me the fact that we offered Dobson a 4 year deal is the worst bit of business we've done since the Doc took over.
I doubt Evalds feels the same type of restriction Theo does, there are not many youngsters who could have deputised for one of the best full backs in the world and in all honesty made his services even more dispensable.
A name not mentioned in this is Sean Long, it is well known he is a huge fan of Theo's and rather took him under his wing when he was at the club, if we'd have kept him I could see Theo and possibly Evalds career progressing at a much faster rate than currently.

| Because it appears our coach is incapable of making a tough decision and managing the fall-out from such. Therefore, it's just easier to drop Niall who if anyone knows him is as quiet as a mouse and wouldn't say boo to a goose.
No coincidence that since Rangi, Dobson and Theo have been available (ie Wigan and Hull KR) Evalds hasn't started.

| This situation it abit like Hampshire and Williams over at Wigan, it seems to be one or the other. For me I'd let Theo think about his future while playing U19's. Tell me where he would get a starting place in SL? His agent is advising him wrong.

| Niall is a quiet lad. And a very pleasant lad. But Harris has no concept of using homegrown talent and, seemingly, no ability to foster bought in talent either. Theo may be preferred because he is "French international" or because he wants to leave and the boss has said so.
The number of talented young players who have become disenchanted with SRD and either packed in playing, or are elsewhere in the lower divisions rather than be subject to this regime, is unbelievable.
In my opinion, Alan Hunte did a great job with very few resources and the players he produced in the last couple of seasons were ignored in favour of big name, big money, none producers.
And they wonder why they get so little support? You reap what you sow!

Were some young players ignored though because they simply weren't anywhere close to playing at SL level? Evalds, Theo, and the Walne brothers have all been given an opportunity by Harris.

Let's dispel the myth. Mr Hunte went off like a train when he first got his " academy " job.
He was never away from local amateur clubs, however as time went by he became more and more anonymous, till he became as useful as Albert White, who rarely considered local talent.
Remember we had the only academy setup that was considered to be failing, and this probably brought about the demise of Mr Hunte.

| I too thought Alan Hunte did a good job, but as said above he just didn't bring through enough local talent. I am not involved in the local amateur game, but I am told by people who are that Salford have no presence whatsoever at junior/youth games.
Instead we settled with the best of the rest what Wigan, Saints, Warrington, Leeds etc didn't want and in that respect we've done well with what we have produced.

Noticed on a FB post on 'Everything RL' showing an article on Locke, a few Salford fans saying they preferred Evalds. At least one reply came from Locke himself who seem to think this suggestion was laughable. Which is a little arrogant seeing as a young ex-Academy lad kept him out of the position until his sulk got so bad he resigned.
Proved today why he's so rated, I thought.

| Yes,Evalds has to be first choice.
Thought he'd cost us the game ,though, just after he was named MOM when he dropped the bomb.
Must give MCB more running chances. He won the game for us

MCB had a stinker until winning the game for us!!! LOL Certainly needs that bit of space then whooooosh.
By the way I thought Ben Thaler had a great game in the middle.

| Dont care what is up with Rangi. He is not a Fullback. Niall belongs there, and what we need now is another young lad u19s player , to learn from Niall. He maybe young to teach some one else, but who taught him , not a fullback we have had in recent years, that is for certain.

| We need to get the ball into MCB's hands more as his pace all round is frightening, when you look at the pace/power we have from 1 - 5 why on earth aren't we chipping over the top, kicking on the 1st or just putting a very early high hail mary up.

| I absolutely love Niall Evalds. Criminal decision by Harris to drop the kid for the last two games, I wonder what Watson would have done had Rangi not been injured? He has still got a long way to go, 5 minutes left, slender lead, Catalan bomb and the pressure gets to him and he drops it. All that will come with experience though.
I have to agree re the wingers, it was noticeable yesterday that we were definitely trying to get the ball out to them much more than we have done previously. MCB was a joy to watch when given some open space infront of him, unstoppable.

The 2012 Academy team came top of the table and were screwed in the play-offs by club finances, super league CEOs who wanted the to do away with u20s and a Head Coach was was determined not to be overshadowed. A Walne was sidelined for most of that season then left the club to join Workington. Alan Hunte bought him back during his short tenure as Head Coach.
Others of that team, who were clearly capable of beating Wigan, Leeds and St Helens finest youngsters, many of who are in those clubs' first teams, are either out of the game or playing in the lower leagues because they became disenchanted with the regime.
The club only played lip service to the Academy system but produced a top team which was pushed to one side when the so called super stars were bought in.
How much better might it have been with local lads with passion for the club, playing in front of their family friends and neighbours?
Let's face it. Could they have done much of a worse job?
