What the stadium looks like isn't really the issue , what it can make you financially is the most important thing , are you going to be running it ? or will it be a council controlled SMC ?

A shame you arent getting the ' iconic ' design , although those plans quite possibly kept you in SL last time , as Cronus on the VT posted , shame that the RFL couldn't have done a deal with Peel and your'selves for a ' National RL stadium ' at Barton as per your original design with a 40,000 capacity , it could really have projected you to the top level

Now that's the outside of the box kind of thinking that makes a club a genuinely dominant and champion club. Too many people prepared to accept mediocrity under the umbrella term of "reality". Not that I understand them as I'm yet to discover what is meant by 'reality'.

I really don't think it's an issue of mediocity of ambition within the club - the inital plans were stunning, but events just happened to knock that off course.

I agree a national RL stadium would be superb, but first you'd have have to get the RFL to back it (and they seem more interested in pouring good money after bad with the likes of Harlequins and Crusaders!), then you'd have to get all the other chairmen to agree - a bit like pushing water uphill!!

For me, the fact we are getting a new stadium (with room for expansion if things go well) and the board have obviously put money into recruitment and strengthening the team next season all bodes well - please, please let's get behind the club and stop whinging - IF folk are a bit disappointed then just keep it to yourself and put out some positive signals instead.

We all need to do what we can to promote Salford City Reds in this great new opportunity.

See this is the thing with this forum these days, and one reason I try to abstain from posting as much, I and a couple of others have expressed an opinion regarding the design of the stadium and yet again we’re being made out to be [i"having a go"[/i I Don’t like the design but I do love the fact we're actually getting the new stadium (me and a few others have played our part in getting it here). Like I've said before I just believe we could have got something more iconic in some way, go back to the initial plans (The ones from the summer of this year not the ones from 10 years ago) and at least it had a few distinguishing features. Now it's bland, bland, bland.

Look at other new stadia which have popped up over the past few years and how aesthetically pleasing they look and then check out cost per space!

This has nothing to do with the efforts of the club, I thank Salford City Council and Peel greatly for getting this for us, and I'm not trying to put it down or having a whinge for whinging sake, I like everyone else, can't wait to see it going up and of course completed, I know fully the benefits the stadium will bring and I've tried my best to convince many for a long time that this stadium would happen, including a number from this forum, and been met with a lot of negativity but I've continued to promote the idea.

I just don't particularly like the look of it, it's not a crime.

To be fair we have an excellent relationship with SCC, it's them that have got this Stadium where it is now, I think we'll be Ok.

Leeds - have redeveloped headingly to a standard required by the RFL and the RFL wont tell Leeds what to do
Hull KR - just secured funds to redevelop the stadium
Hull - new stadium
Warrinton - new stadium
Huddersfield - new stadium
Wigan - new stadium
Salford - new stadium plans
Saints - new stadium plans
Bradford - new stadium plans
Cass - new stadium plans
Wakefield - new stadium plans

The below 3 dont matter as they can do what they want with the full backing of the RFL;
Crusaders
Quinns
Catalan

The fact is we couldnt redevelope the Willows to the "required" standard, Im almost certain this was looked at and with the limited space and surrounding area plus cost just wasnt feasible.
Whether all the above planned builds happen is another matter, I would just like to see ours built and us playing in it, as was previously said its what we're getting, but has the provision for expansion.

As much as I may not agree with a few of your points I do appreciate them all the same. Indeed, I recognise my personal outlook on this matter is somewhat more radical and beyond the consensus. Neverthless, I mean no harm to the club and certainly don't feel as though I'm "whinging". Merely expressing an alternative opinion. If anything, my angst lies at the door of British society which still seems to be biased in favour of the south-east/affluent. It's almost as though 'thinking-big' is a crime if you don't happen to be from the right part of the country. Indeed, I also feel that this particular mindset has been adopted by the RL community. We do have a very very good relationship with the council, even the Swinton councillors, and hopefully this relationship will grow with Salford supporters with in the council.

I think we'll be OK - there are some excellent Income streams - not least the Banqueting. Fear not.

We have excellent Banqueting facilities at Leigh , problem is they are that expensive nobody wants to use them , yes you should find it easier than us given your location and the level you will be playing at , but seriously you lose control of those income streams and you will struggle

You have a lot of expensive work to be done to make the new stadium a success attendance wise , that will need to be paid for , it will take several years

It was mentioned by Dave Tarry in the recent press conference that talk's between Salford Reds & the Council about a ' New Stadium ' started as far back as 1996 .


We had been unceremoniously shoved out of the newly formed SL the year previously , albeit by our league position but the ground facilities & image of the club was an issue to our inclusion in SL even then.
By 2007 our submission for a franchise place in SL nailed our colours to the mast, we have no choice but to deliver on our promise of new ground / facilities.

it's now 2010 , a recession on and our new ground is essentially an off -the-shelf economy option , not RL's Bernabeu.

However in it's favour
1. it's happening
2. It's only 3.8 Miles down the road from the old place
3. It has two Training pitches + Changing Pavillion on site
4. It can be improved

so what ever the reservations of the move , we've got next season to really give the old place a good send off!
