Quote ="MikeTommo"It's all well and good saying play the kids but if they are not ready then it's negligent to play them. RL is an unbelievably tough sport as our current injury list shows. Putting players in who are physically not ready or simply do not have the ability to play at SL level risks serious injury. Those the coaching staff deem to be ready or as close to ready as possible are already playing and in the team.
The reasons why our 19's are not ready now is a side issue and one Salford need to remedy as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this isn't going to happen by Friday. I'm in no way embarrassed by Salford asking for a postponement, it sensible. Just as it's sensible that Hull will decline, it's not their problem.
No matter what anyone says, having 19 players unavailable (through injury & suspension) is unique. Yes, the suspensions are our own doing but nontheless, they are unavailable to play. Its a very testing time and we just have to get on with it and show the same commitment we did against Cas on Sunday.
To those who are foaming at the mouth over this request, it's probably time to grow up a little bit.'"
Tbf we've been in a similar situation ourselves, with the exception of the 3 banned players and we had to draft in our youngsters and play the game. www.hullfc.com/article/22050/cat ... 14-hull-fc

| Quote ="TheButcher"This is spot-on.
I really wouldn't want the Club throwing under-developed sixteen year olds into a SL game. You're talking about not only potential serious injury, but also knocking-back any potential development that has gone on.
I think it was worth the Club asking but sticking it in the public domain seems like a really stupid decision. There was no need for it to be a public matter and then become another anti-Salford stick to beat us with in the eyes of other RL fans. We just need to suck it up and get on with it.'"
How would you deal with the situation? I'm not trolling,I'm just curious given the amount of injuries/suspensions on what can you do about it?

| I can't see the RFL postponing the game, it would be an extremely dangerous precedent. Salford have decided to spend the salary cap on a number on high-profile and high-quality players. The downside to this is a lack of depth. Unfortunately, at the moment that decision is not proving a good one.

| Take a couple of days off the social media and, on return, read more trolls than audition for a Hobbit film: and I do not mean the above two.
Bleating aside: and, yes I realise both Wakey and FC have had their issues, but how do you play with one half-back and no hookers?
The answer is not to rely on Locke as he is injured. Yes, if he puts his hand up, play him but realise he is not going to be the full Locke. THe answer is not to expect more from Fages: the lad runs himself into a lather anyway and we will get 100% from him. But we know there will be late shots on him. It happens every game: I'm sure we need a cut man to deal with the many head shots he gets.
So, we do everything to deal with it: requesting a postponement is one tactic. As for making this public, I'm in agreement with this: better the news out now than ss from Hull (and troll) fans when it is found out after the game. I not embarrassed in the slightest by this public request; any more than ringing in ill to work when I have a heavy cold and cannot stand. Butcher is fully correct in use of our academy. The keyboard warriors are to be ignored: their ignorance invalidates they being taken as sensible.
Now we know the answer is no, bring on the Zulus.

| The money Koukash has thrown at Salford and the profile he has given RL in this country entitles him/us to ask to postpone what we want, we should be able to request it for every game when we are not at full strength. I personally think we should start requesting away games be moved to the AJ Bell if that's what Koukash and his millions of pounds want.......................

| Why not just ask the rl if they can forfait the game and pay Hull fc compensation for the 20,000 fans who were going to turn up....or ask Pearson to play our under 19, s side as I could do with not having to watch our crap 17 first team squad

| Another thread that shows we should be more selective on which opposition supporters are allowed on here. I'm sure some people just troll opposition forums, rather than posting about their own clubs.

I thought something similar. Hull were more than entitled to refuse our request, as I suspect we would have done if roles were reversed. However despite the huge unlikeliness of us getting any kind of result on Friday, all the pressure is now on Hull to win and win comfortably. If we were to come up with some kind of shock on Friday, I suspect Radford will be looking for work on Saturday morning.

| Worst argument I have read on this matter if those who say "Salford/Koukash has CHOSEN to assemble an expensive squad with no depth" for f*cks sake we have 20 players unavailable according to the club (worse than I first thought) for Fridays game, is it any wonder we cannot muster a 17. How many Super League clubs carry squads of 37 and more? Ridiculous comments from opposition supporters who really should think before engaging.

| The only way around this would be for us to go cap in hand to the clubs Marwan has a good relationship with, ie Wigan and Warrington and ask if we can short term loan a couple of their fringe players. I see Kevin Penny and Gary Wheeler both played for North Wales at weekend, they would be a start.

| I dont agree with the request being made mainly due to the suspensions. If it was purely because of injuries I could see the sense in asking the question (no harm in asking, worst can happen is get told no). I am of the opinion, however, that due to the nature of how it has all come out into the media, whichever team you manage to get together for Hull start on the front foot. What it has done is put all pressure firmly onto the shoulders of Hull and enable any youngsters Salford play to just go over there and enjoy the experience. This could go one of 2 ways, obviously, however Hull now have all the pressure in the world on them and Salford have none at all. So, overall, not a bad move from the Salford club despite me and others thinking how stupid the original request was. Sometimes the daftest of ideas become some of the most productive. You may just unearth one of the 19's that steps up to the mark. Only my 10p worth!

Too young to remember myself but it was under Murphy. There were also shenanigans going on behind the scenes, namely that the big name players had signed a petition to present to the board to get rid of the coach. Couldn’t tell you whether that forced Murphy’s hand.

I think this proves my point about the U19's not being ready. No way could we throw them in against Super league opposition, it would be suicide

Adam Pearson and Lee Radford are under immense criticism from the Hull fans lately and you can't really blame them for wanting to take full advantage of our misfortune. They are two absolutely desperate individuals and they will be hoping a straightforward victory will take some heat off themselves. I honestly think they would still want to play us if we only had 17 Girl Guides.
We just have to take it on the chin and endure a few weeks of pain. The one plus is we now know what we are capable of when we get all these players back for the business end of the season. The present situation could actually work in our favour with fresher and fewer burned out players come the playoffs or the qualifiers.

I think it was under Ashcroft. At least I'm fairly certain we beat Bradford away to stay up under Ashcroft, and I think I remember a heavy midweek defeat away at Wigan before it.

| The game I’m talking about was Salford vs. Leeds, 9 March 1979. Salford lost 3–0 but fielded a fair amount of locals and reserves in the game.
Edward Kennedy, [iThe Guardian[/i, 10 March 1979
‘Salford, who have not won a match since 17 November and this week had a traumatic confrontation between the board, their coach, Alex Murphy, and his disgruntled players, played with remarkable enthusiasm in the circumstances.
‘They fielded a makeshift team because of injuries and illness and players rarely seen in senior rugby like the scrum-half [David Harris, [David Lang at Prop and the hooker [Paul O’Neil rose well to the occasion. But for all their courage, lack of weight lessened their impact against a much heavier pack.’
Graeme Johns; Keith Fielding, David Stephenson, Sammy Turnbull, Steve Hey; Chris Hesketh (Capt.), David Harris; David Lang, Paul O’Neill, Alan Grice, Stewart Williams, Chris McGreal, Eric Prescott. [uSubs[/u: Colin Whitefield, Alan Oldham.

As a neutral,I would be asking to why so many injuries! The suspensions yeah ok..That goes down to disipline. But to be carrying so many injuries, for me just does'nt come down to bad luck. And to comment on Fages as in taking so many head shots which yes he's probably use too.I don't see him on the injury list..
Possibly the problem lies somewhere else as...

| Not quite sure what you're suggesting. I don't think Morley turning his ankle or Godwin getting his teeth knocked out or even Dobson getting booted in the side of the knee is down to a flaw in our training methods !!!
Simply bad luck, which the club will get through !!!

You can add to that Sa'u injuring his arm in a tackle, Ben Jones-Bishop twisting his knee in a tackle, Josh Griffin breaking a bone in his foot when he landed after taking a short kick off, Jordan Walne a bad eye injury after a being poked in it and nearly going blind, Tommy Lee twisting a knee in a tackle and Liam Hood breaking his thumb.
As you say its just been pure bad luck.
