these little $hit$ are really hard when in groups of ten I have found, as soon as someone gives it back to them off they go to the police, perhaps he will pay his fare in future. I once confronted about 6 of these types on a train once and one of them phoned their dad, who I happily met off the train and explained what had gone on, I felt sorry for the lad in the end his dad kick crap out of him and made him apologise.
