Wasn't his first game away at Wakefield, he had us all fooled we thought we'd signed a star but sadly it went downhill pretty rapidly after that one good performance

| I'd have to include Andy Gregory and possibly Martin Offiah. I know they were both past their best when they played for us, but I'd have them ahead of Nash and Richards, but not by much.

Offiah and Gregory were class and would grace any Rugby team, however Richards and Nashy had a bigger influence playing for Salford than Offiah and Greg's did.

| Can't argue with the British team as didn't see the majority play, purely based on reputation.
For the overseas in the starting 13 I'd swap;
Stapleton for Rampling
Panapa for Horo

Fair comment, however Paul Shaw for me was an absolute class act playing in a poor team and he stood out a mile. Every team head hunted the poor bleeder. The worst culprit was Paul Forber playing for Sint tellins Alec Murphy apparently collared Forber at half-time and said "if that lickle stays on that pitch you'll be transfer listed Mondee morning." bloody hell Forber nearly decapitated poor Shawy. With regards to Selby i've totally overlooked him there's no doubt he should be in the 17 good point.

Really. I never saw Wally unfortunately. I saw Fielding play. And thought he could catch pigeons. I always hear Salford fans herald Fielding the fastest.
Who was the Fastest Salford winger ?

Stapleton's go forward was better than Rampling's no doubt, But Rampling and Horo's work rate was immense i bet they'd fetch 100 tackles between them. Panapa's strength was his strong on the burst lines, All four deserve to be in the 17.

Hooker's are an issue with the overseas team ! even Peter Edwards was signed initially as a Fullback.
and Tony Rampling's ability to run up a telephone bill is more remembered than his pitchside exploits ..

For a first stab,it's pretty much there.
I'd have Banner and Burdell for Nash and Groves.
I'd have Peter Williams instead of Chris Hesketh.
Frank Collier would prop with Coulman in the second row and Coley on the bench
Still thinking about the overseas team

Interesting. I tinkered with Brennan, Banner and opted for Nash. Williams instead of Hesketh i'm not sure. Scott Naylor was my next choice. Interesting views.

Yes,thought I'd be slaughtered for that.
Singapore Steeps would tell you that there's no substitute for class and PW would have been phenomenal in that back line

| Gus Risman has to be the ultimate Salford legend. I know we are only selecting players who we have seen play, I never saw Gus play but he is generally held to be one off the all time greats, not just for Salford but in Rugby league
I do remember prior to the 1956 season going to Gus Risemans summer school at the Willows, when he was manager/coach. At the end we had a game of touch rugby in which Gus would play, now I know it was only touch but Gus was awesome he still had very good pace, he would of been about 50 years old then. the mind boggles what he was like in his prime.
And yes I can say it, I played in the same team as Gus Riseman

That's dead right but Maurice Richards would have scored far more tries.
Hesketh had pace and strength but didn't pass well to his left which is a downside for a left centre ! Tremendous player though
