| Barton Flyer's right. As much as I'd like to tear apart Stew2's politics (again), let's keep this thread about the stadium.
We'll see what JW tells us at the awards on the 16th to find out what's next.

| Quote ="Stew2"How about the money that is being spent on the feckless idiots who now can't afford their mortgages because they lied about their income and are now stuck because their lied income has ground to a halt?
There are lots of people in their 20s who are having to pay taxes to prop up the maniacal housing ponzi in the UK.
Those taxes are going to people in their 30s who lied about their income to get a house they couldn't afford, houses which are now being kept from the market because of daft interventionist goverment policies which ought to be withdrawn.
The responsible few bought unemployment insurance to protect themselves in the event of the worst happening, but with Labour they stumped up cash to anyone and everyone, blowing the housing ponzi bubble for all it was worth. Debt only takes you so far, and scrounging off the wealth-creators only gets you so far.
Eventually you have to start creating real things of value, such as our new stadium, rather than expecting the government to do everything for you and palming you cash.'"

| Don't worry S2 ... there's an announcement early Oct that'll make you very happy (clue JSA+mortgage relief) [and an announcement later that month that'll put me out of work.
Back to the stadium, the only concern is will it cause the Craven Park/WD40 stadium issue of one way in and one way out.

Stumbled across this 5 minute, 3D Video of the new Saints stadium. I wonder if the club/council/peel are planning on doing something similar to promote our new stadium?

Looks quality. Now, call me arrogant if you wish, but I can't help but think that a city and in particular this city, with a proud history of innovative structural brilliance, (Ship canal, the worlds only inland port, the Lowry etc etc) should have a stadium to better the fine efforts of St Helens. Or are we that beaten up and weary of the whole process that we're happy to put up with an Ikea flat-pack stadium that ticks the RFL's boxes?
I dunno. Happy to be on my own with this one. And after all, I might be mistaken in that the final design is brilliant and beyond current expectations.

I can't see the council wanting a cheap looking stadium that would reflect badly on the city's already, unfairly tarnished image, especially considering the prominent location of it. Further to this I can't imagine Peel Holdings wanting to put there name to something cheap and cheerful because it just isn't their style. Lets face it, it's off the same road as the Trafford Centre and I can't see them building something that would lower the tone of their palatial shopping centre. It's like someone building themselves a multi-million pound mansion and then developing a plot of land over the road and building a shed of place on it. I just can't see this happening.
My understanding is we have the same stadium architects as Saints so hopefully it will look equally impressive when we hopefully see a 3d video of our's.

The final design is what was approved the other week - unless Eric Pickles rejects it.

Take a look at some (most) of the buildings they are responsible for and you may rethink that. I'm struggling to think of any Peel commissioned building that has had any serious architectural plaudits.

This doesn't neccessarily mean that it has be built exactly to the plans submitted. For instance each company that tendor may suggest a more cost effective solution that allows for improvements to the original plans.

I can only go off Media City and the Trafford Centre and they both look pretty impressive to me.

I'd beg to differ on the architectural merit front. Tack wins outright at the TC, and "budget" wins outright at MC - check out the laughably small windows in the residential building, and the lovely Eastern Bloc architecture of the Holiday Inn. The Salford Uni buildling is reasonable. The older Victora building on the Quays and its newer neighbour are also fugly.

That's exactly what I said when we were down there Sunday morning, infact more than one of the buildings looked like Tirana in the 60's!

That's your opinion Iain and I respect that. In my view the TC is the most palatial shopping centre I've ever seen either side of the atlantic. As for the holiday Inn surely that design was influenced by a budget from a budget hotel chain. You wouldn't build it to the spec of the Lowry Hotel to charge Holiday Inn room rates it just wouldn't stack financially.

Typo etc..
It's the Tesco issue that's led to Lancs being called in, not the stadium itself. Wonder if it's anything to do with Tesco donating money to the last Labour administration?
The retail element of our site has already been through a public inquiry for approval and as I've said before, if they forced to through another inquiry it would be spending public money on the same thing again - another inquiry with no opposition to the plans - surely that would be against the ethos of cutting public spending.

| So the Condems have been back from their summer hols all of a week and we here of yet more sweeping cuts, the privatisation of Royal Mail, an independent study revealing that the north west will suffer the most from the new governments economic reform policies and now we have Pickles interfering with Lancs CC's stadium redevelopment.
Very concerning!

No I drove down the East Lancs before and can confirm that Leigh is still there. If you spell $hit this way you don't have to call Leigh a big pile of dirt you can actually call it a big pile of $hit.
