This is getting off topic but Pickles joined the tories after the USSR invaded Czechoslovakia. I'm not standing up for the guy but something clearly changed his mind about the difference in the idiology and the reality of communism put in place in Russia at the time.
One thing that stands out for me is that a normal Polish guy Ryszard Siwiec was so upset about the invasion and political landscape that surrounded him. He set fire to himself and died as a protest.

Either that changed his mind or he was offered a well paid job and didn't feel so happy about equality any longer

take 3 months holiday and it is parliament that shuts down for the summer not government departments

It has local government clearance, it's now down to national government (the ConDems) to pass it finally.

oh what grounds could they (the condems) stop the development?

The condems are cutting back on things they will spend on in the future this project is funded by the council who have already allocated there share of the money and peel who as a private company will also have allocated there share before putting in the planning application.

Well, we now know that finance won't be a problem. There was a Swinton fan on the Radio Manchester phone in yesterday. I didn't quite catch everything he was saying because he was so bitter that just listening to him made my cheeks suck in, but he reckons Swinton are moving to the Willows next season, and that this is how Salford will fund the new stadium. It's a fair point. That £20-30 a week could make all the difference between a 12,000 off-the-shelf type stadium and the iconic 20,000 capacity one.
