| Why way Carney marched for 10 and Massey not? Pretty obvious there that Bentham bottled it.

| Good game, won by the best team. My main thoughts:
1. Dobson is still a class act. His kicking game was spot all every time and he organised the attack well on our line.
2. The first time I have said this - awful in-game decision from Powell. When we lost Dorn to injury the two options were to either put Hampshire to full-back and use Milner as a make-shift half, or put Monaghan to full-back, shift Crooks onto the wing and use McMeekan as a centre. Powell decided to put Milner onto the wing - despite having none of the attributes of a winger! Dobson took about two minutes to notice and isolate Milner, catching his completely out of position numerous times.
3. Justin Carney is always going to provide entertainment. Sin-binned in the first minute, giving penalties away whilst in possession and dropping the ball after the tackle. However, he can certainly find his way to the line given the opportunity. I was shocked he wasn't once targeted with a high ball - imagine the pressure the fans would have put him under as the ball came down, particularly with his back to the Wheldon Road End in the second half! I wish he was still in our colours, but unfortunately our players will not accept him as part of the group so he has no future at Cas. You should get him signed up ASAP, though I hear we have agreed a deal with Wigan as of next year.
4. Gareth O'Brien is a fantastic kicker. Those kind of conversions are worth their weight in gold.
5. Tommy Lee was better than I expected him to be.
6. From our point of view, Hamsphire can toddle back to Wigan. I saw nothing to suggest he has the potential to be a first-choice SL half back.
Overall, the result reflected the game. We need our injured players back ASAP (Roberts in particular) as we are much weaker without them.

| Seems like a fair assessment to me. Re the injuries that your team are suffering. We had more than our fair share last year, and it refreshing to have a virtually full squad to pick from. It does mean, however, that we have some damned good players sitting on the sidelines. Just great that two of the 'lesser' teams are mixing it with the best.

| I'm beginning to think that GOB is looking like our best buy of the off season so far. I thought he was good last year but his form this season so far is very impressive. A long time since we went to Cas and won by so many points. It really looks like Watson is fashioning some real consistency into the group, even when we've lost we've still give it our all, and that's all us fans really want to see. If Lui is missing for a few weeks I can see Evalds getting his chance with GOB moving into the halves with Dobson. Not a bad replacement eh?

| No! O'Brien has been a revelation at full back so why move him? Evalds arrived as a half back so let's play him there. He is one of the best support players I have seen of late so give him am opportunity.

| Great away day and delighted to come away with the win but my gosh didn't we made it hard for ourselves yet again.
There were so heroic efforts from some of our usual outstanding performers this year such as Josh Jones, Gareth O'Brian, Tommy Lee, Craig Kopzcak, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Justin Carney, Mark Flanagan, Junior Sau and Josh Griffin.
But having said that Logan Tomkins and Phil Joesph were horrendous and to be quite frank are championship standard and should subsequently be dropped next week for Hull KR away.
Will Matty Wilkinson get the call up next week? Evalds at full back and move O'Brian into scrum half?

That last try is interesting. At the game I thought Carney had picked it up to run it under the posts to rub salt into the wounds. Did he actually get downward pressure, looks like he just picked it up to me!
Obviously made no difference, but it looked odd when I saw it live and still doesn't look right!

With all respect, GOB is a HB playing well at FB. Mainly due to him being played as an extra HB. Evalds is a better FB than HB at this stage of his career so I can see him getting the nod at FB if GOB moves in for Lui. Of course you may be right in that Watson will stick Evalds at HB, but I seriously doubt he will do it. Evalds got Young player of the year at FB last season, it would be mad to throw him in the halves especially after having so little game time. With little game time under his belt, a run out at FB may be just what he needs.

| Don't think massey did anything , according to your coach it was Webster who slapped carney, but I did think at the time how the hell can only carney go for that....in typical cas fashion, we fail to score with a man extra and actually conceded 2 points. That said, salford were far better today and well worth the win.

Looked like on the footage that the ref was going to send Carney regardless.

| Complete agree Michigan Red, the Ref had his hand in his back pocket before the melee had even had even started, not even a word to Carney, or anyone else for that matter, all you heard him say was we/I got him.
While we on the subject of the highlights, if you watch ALL 3 TRIES FOR CASS they are all forward passes. look where the feet of the player passing the last ball are , and watch where he catches the ball. That is all i will say. WE WON and that will do me. The ref tried everything to give Cass the game.
AND AS FOR THE PITCH. NO WONDER CASS HAVE GOT SO MANY INJURIES IT WAS MORE LIKE SOUTHPORT SAND DUNES, DISGRACE.

I thought the first two tries were quite a way forward. Third one was fifty-fifty. That's the way RL goes sometimes. It's quite difficult for both the refs and touch judges to make accurate calls because they are almost always chasing the play and viewing it from behind. At ground level from any angle looking from behind it's almost impossible to call.

| Fantastic win, our defence was outstanding and it took a couple of forward passes for Cas to break us down. I cant believe Bentham sent just Carney to the bin for that, pathetic officiating.
Really pleased with how we coped with the injury to Robert Lui and Tommy Lee really stepped it up at half-back. Our first try was a delight, nice work from Tomkins, good break from Lee and finished off by Junior and Johnson.
As far as away days go, that was up there. Good numbers and a vocal support, you could tell the players appreciated it.

I've looked at it this morning again and the pressure is applied to the ball as he puts both hands on it. It does look odd, but it's definitely a try.

I agree. Given the ball was stopped in goal. All he had to do was touch it for it to be a try. I bet if, having done what he did, if he'd walked towards the posts and put it down it would have been given there though. Such are the vagaries of the downward pressure rule!

| A fantastic win. Gaz O'Brien take a bow son. With this injury to Robert Lui only recently i've be advocating to move O'Brien to Stand off and bring in Evalds into fullback, but i'm not so sure now. With Gaz's delightful dazzling displays at No1 why change it, why risk hindering a players superb displays when we can juggle things round elsewhere. I'm very disappointed with Logan's discipline and attitude at the moment however me thinks Tommy Lee would be a wise move playing at No6 like what happened at Castleford yesterday. I'd then bring in young Wilkinson to the bench and to share game time with Logan. Preferably i'd want three forwards on the bench however something has to be sacrificed for Lui's injury. So the question to Walter and Mr Sheens is "Do we give Niall a run at No1, Revert O'Brien to No6 or do we draft Tommy Lee to No6 and give shared game time to Logan and Wilkinson at hooker only if the lad is obviously ready for the challenge. I'm sat on the fence with this decision as i wouldn't want to hinder O'Briens form and i also want to see Naill given a run out to challenge for his No1 jersey. The reason i'd prefer Tommy Lee at No6 is that our attack would remain a three pivot attack which has been fruitful for us, whereas with O'Brien at No6 that attack gets reduced to Two pivots hence my late change in opinion. Nice headaches for a change if there's any improvement to be gained in Evald's game its asserting an improvement in his third pivot role which i've no doubt he can muster.

It's a nice headache to have for us for a change, and to be honest, I wouldn't be disappointed with any of the scenarios so far offered. GOB to halves with Evalds at FB, Tommy Lee at HB with GOB retaining FB. Lee was very good against Cas and is very consistent so may possibly get the nod for next week. Tomkins does need to get a grip of his discipline, and I think if we had a stronger line-up in the hooking role he probably wouldn't be getting close to the minutes he has been doing. C'est la vie I suppose.
I can see the trip to HKR being tricky as they're desperate for points, and a wounded animal can still be dangerous. This is the type of game we would definitely lose after a good performance last year. Hopefully our new squad can remain consistent and apply a bit of ruthlessness next week by putting them to the sword.

| On GOB as a fan who has seen him play more times than Salford fans, you absolutely have to keep him at FB.
Gaz is a very good pro, lovely fella, braver than most players considering his stature, fantastic kicker of the ball and he can put some real snow on those kicks.
Hisipass selection is good, his reading of the game is good, handling and tackling all very good.
Not the quickest lad and not the strongest as you're probably seeing with his kick returns. The other big problem is 'overthink' as i call it, he gets caught a lot with the ball, he isn't the best with limited time and forwards bearing down on him.
This move to FB is a revelation, something that would never happens at Wire as FB is a position that we seem to have too much cover in.
The FB role gives him time to think and that makes his game so much stronger, he only chimes in when he thinks it's right and he's been playing really well at fb.
We gave him a bit of stick at the game, par for the course but very very few wire fans will pan him, we know he has great qualities and potential, he was always a square peg in a round hole at Wire though.
You absolutely have to keep him at FB and i say that as an O'Brien fan not a Salford fan.

Hull KR is always a tricky banana skin of a tie. whether its a league, cup or playoff game. Does anybody know how Albert Kelly and Campese's injury woes are at present. Having these two unavailable for selection instil's me with more confidence of coming away with the two points. They're a completely different beast with Kelly and Campese.

| Great performance by the boys yesterday and I can now see us putting a little run together - we have a unity Ive not seen in a Salford team for a long time. FLAT STAN, you still think JGriffin isn't worth his slot in the team - that's 5 tries in his last four games....?

I'll give credit and criticism where i think its due. Josh Griffin takes his chances well near the line, that's not the issue, however ALL Castlefords attack went towards Solomona's wing which Sa'u was defending, Castleford hardly used Monaghan's wing hence a quiet day at the office in defence for Josh. My issue with Griffin is his gullibility to over-read a play which Gelling proved and initialized upon in the Wigan game. Castleford simply didn't expliot it they chose to attack Solomona's wing instead. There's definitely improvement to be made and worked upon within Griffins game, to deem otherwise is ignorant.

| I'm all for bringing Wilkinson in because I rate him highly enough. However this is not the right time to blood him in yet. I would wait to the challenge cup comes around and pray we get someone from league 1.

| This would be a great time to bring in Wilkinson. Tommy Lee has to remain at Hooker for me and put in a 60min shift.
Gareth O'Brian into the halves and Evalds at full back. Logan and Joesph get nowhere near that 19 for me both huge liabilities, rather us play Flanagan at Hooker and bring Jordan Walne, Forster or Andrade onto the bench (Whoever grafts harder in training) this week.
Not getting ahead of ourselves here but after the start we've made we should be going there and getting the two points. They've not won a game and have a lot of injuries. We need a big start again!

| I saw a bit of Wilkinson at Rochdale and he did well against a lower league opposition, that on the day gave us a very good run for our money.
Just asking as I don't know much about him, is hooker his natural role?
How good would it be to see a 9 come through the ranks of the Clark or Roby calibre.
