| Much as i would love to i just dont see Richie Myler playing the best years of his career in a Salford shirt. Depressing as it sounds we just cant compete at the moment with those better supported clubs. Ths Stadium issue just rumbles on and on with no end in sight. Clubs like Warrington Wigan Leeds Saints Hull are never in any danger of having a franchise removed hence they can plan with certaintanty for the future with a guarentee(sic) of almost permanant top level rugby. Clubs like ourselves Wakey Castleford are expendable due to a host of already well discussed reasons. So when a prospect like Myler or Turner and players like Atkins at Wakey and Westerman at Castleford come along they are still vulnerable to the cherry picking antics of the big clubs. So we sell the lad for as much as we can and look to invest our windfall wisely. Depressing i know but franchised or not we are still very much behind the eight ball when situations like this one appear.

| Quote ="RedDave"If we are serious in thinking we should get half a million for his services, then we should be breaking the bank to try to keep him in my opinion. He is the future and we will only get where I would like us to be by building a team around him. He is an outstanding talent with another twelve years or so to improve.'"
That's part of my concern. Do fans REALLY want JAW to break the bank to keep Myler?
His presence in the team hasn't increased attendances and hence won't add to our revenue, nor has his presence hasn't lifted us out of the bottom three.
If we were to throw a huge amount of money at him it would either jeopardise the quality of the rest of our squad, or leave us in a more vulnerable position financially.
As our sound financial footing appears to be the only reason we got into SL ahead of Widnes, is it really worth gambling for the sake of one player, who could get badly injured in his next game.
I am just as keen as anyone for Richie to stay with us, and desperately hope he will. However one player does not an SL team make. Also, he displayed very little loyality to his hometown club in joining us so can't imagine why he would show any loyality to us?
His agent will want a big move, Tony Smith will want him playing in the top four if he is to secure his Enlgand place and there are a number of 'bigger' clubs who would be very interested in his services (and when I say 'bigger'' I mean bigger than us AND bigger than Wire?!)

| We need to give him what he and his agent wants. Tie him down on a three year contract if it means making him the best payed player at the club so be it. Then do the same for Turner, Adamson and Ratchford. Build for the future with homegrown talent thus giving us a better chance with the franchising next time around. If we have 4 internationals then the RFL will have to keep us in the SL but if we start to let the players go then we could end up like Swinton.
DARE TO DREAM. Come on Reds sort it out!

| We either stay as a feeder club for these so called bigger clubs and lose all our best talent or we go for it and put a statement of intent and keep the wolves at bay.
It is totally in our chairmans hands now.
I trust him to make the right decision.
BTW Richie left Widnes when they basically went tit$ up.We were the only club bold enough to take a chance on him.I hope he takes this into consideration when he makes his decision.

That is a very good and well reasoned post. Myler is a special talent no doubt, but would Wigan want him already having Tomkins, would Saints want him already having Eastmond?
The only team I can see that can find an immediate place for him is Warrington. Myler only has one year left on his contract so do you stick or sell?
I'm not convinced that he is as good as some would have us believe, particularly with regard to his defence,as Wigan have exposed this season.

| I really think that the worst thing that Myler could do at this stage of his career is leave Salford. He is far from the finished player and is doing well at a smaller club like Salford with no pressure and no big name players where he can generally do his own thing. This would not be the case elsewhere and I think that he would not look like the same player. If he was at a club like Wigan he would have been crucified by their fans by now and would have taken the blame for their defeats. Indeed he would probably be stuck in their reserves by now.
I do fear though that Myler may be begining to believe his own hype and that he thinks that he is better than he actually is. He has got increasingly greedy recently and sometimes looks as if he is playing for himself and not the team. He is a good player with a lot of potential but he still has a long way to go.

As a Hull fan I absolutely agree with this. The whole idea of the salary cap is so that teams can develop and keep their own young talent.

| I reaily hope Myler make the right call and he (or his representatives) in this case DOESNT chase the money, if he goes to wire it will destroy a promising career and put Salford and Rugby league as a whole back as the francise system is there to allow teams like us to build, if our best players keep being taken how are we surpose to get better.

| How would moving to Wire destroy his career?
We are not the only club attempting to build, Warrington will be attempting to build a squad capable of challenging for honours as well. If Myler chooses to go there with a promise of higher wages and a good shot at winning stuff in the future then good luck to him. We're not a one man team.

| Clearly the only attraction of going to Wire is the presence of the England coach - we saw it before with Noble & Coley - I suspect we may be seeing it again.
It's a very short career in the top flight of RL, and ultimately if young Mr Myler is made an offer that Salford can't match he'd have to consider it, I don't think anyone could blame him.
There is ONLY one way to stop this happening and that's to increase the status of Salford City Reds, at the moment with the lack of stadium progress I feel rather pessimistic about that.

Or offer him the money it would take to keep him. Quite simply, we don't have it. Even when the stadium is built, we won't have it.

Why would Widnes be due a fee. The club that held his registration went bust. He didn't have a valid contract and was a free agent.
I would suggest Myler speaks to Tim Hartley, the last young hopeful we had.
It is all about balance, we should improve his contract and sign the other players, but not be held to ransom by Offiah.
As long as he goes withy the dignity shown by hodgy I have no problem

At this delicate time of his career a move to wire will eather make him or break him, their fans are not as forgiving as we are, if he doesnt hit the ground running and running hard they will get on his back.
We have all seen it if wire are not in the top 3 come playoff time they will be looking for a scapegoat, the press are building him up and without the neccessary support around him (which i dont think he'll get at wire) and the time to develop he will suffer and wire will just go though the motions like normal.
His career will be in ruins, Wire will go and buy a big name ozzie to replace him/make him a side show player rather than their main man, two years down the line he is released and another career in ruins.
He is only 19 he could give us 3 more years, complete his development physically and mentally and then move on possibly to someone bigger than wire if we havnt moved on sufficiently to quench his thurst for success.

| I think Offiah and his contacts in the media have done one hell of a job building Myler up into something out of all recognition.
How abpount some scored out of 10 for the essential aspects of a scrum half:
Confidence in own ability - 10
Organising the team - 8
Defence - 5
Kicking - 7
Creative passing - 8
Backing up skills - 10
The camera was never off him on Saturday, even though some of his team mates had better games.
Is he is good scrum half by Salfords standards? Absolutely.
Is he a world beater? Offiah only has this chance to make us all believe it, as in 3 years time he will need to be the finished article and Hudderfield may be his best hope (Robinson).
