I didn't say Sky is not an important factor in broadcast sport - clearly that would be ludicrous - What I said was Boot n All is a program which preaches to the already converted and whilst it might give us all a warm feeling in the seat of our pants when our beloved Salford is mentioned, I just don't believe that anything said or done on that show has any wider effect in marketing Salford!

That's not to say that the club (business for that is what it is!) doesn't need a tremendous effort, and a much improved one from past performance, to get where we all want to be - All I am saying is that you need to concentrate your efforts where you will get most return and Boots n All is NOT it!!

Hands up who actually watch "boots n' all" it is a very poor sports programme with very limited information about Rugby League, only a few clubs get any real mentions with others just glazed over, even the name is a joke, look at other sports covered by Sky, football programmes are not called "Shin pads and kisses" the Yawnian sports programme is not called "ra ra grunt and groan" so why is ours not called something serious?
As for the MEN its main Rugby League writer is now gearing up for the football season, the Bolton Evening News has more in it about rugby league mainly Wigan, but its there.
We don't do press releases Sale do a daily one thats why it is in the MEN daily, Journos like not having to do much, do the work for them and it gets coverage, ask them to do it and nothing happens.

How can anyone defend the fuc*ing club on this, we moan about not getting any coverage and when we get the chance we balls it up. A simple we cant give a statement as we don't own the stadium but will ask the council/peel if they would like to comment wouldn't be rocket science would it?

If it was a one of then i wouldn't be to bothered but surely people must see the club is run by a set of armatures, take for example the other month they posted on the website about a "stadium party" but then back tracked in what they wrote on the website and changed it, whilst the Stadium getting built is great news surely people must see this is poor admin work by the people who are meant to run the club. Not to mention my mate who ordered a baby Salford top for his nephew which hadn't turned up 4 yes 4 months later, despite the club saying every week it would do. I can go on & on but im starting to depress myself!

Don't get me wrong Salford RL is my passion, my love & my life, but we cannot go on with the MCNUGGET brothers trying to run it, all they do is patrol the back of the shed like there some sort of forced to be reckoned with. Its like having the chuckle brothers running the club!

Im also pis*ed of with people on here thinking they are bigger and better fans than others, well guess what your not people pay there money just like you, i am more than happy to have reasonable debates with people and am also happy to accept that not everyone will agree on everything that's a fact of life, but the sheer number of people who think they are above other fans on here is diabolical. You all stand there in your little groups and do nothing but slag fans of if they say a bad word about the club looking down your noses.

Out of all that people point out one spelling mistake, i wonder if that's because you know i have a very valid point or are you still going to stick up for the club yet again.

If you want me to go on i will, didn't the club say they were going to show a DVD before a game (think it was this season?) and then when people turned out to watch it there was nothing of the sort. I actually remember people on here moaning about it. There is just another example of how our club is run.

For what its worth I heard from a source at the club that the council/peel have insisted that only they as the developer can make official statements about the progress of the new stadium. Apparently the club tried contacting the relevent people but they were on holiday. However, this does not excuse the person responsible at the club for not phoning Sky back to explain the situation. I am in no doubt that the Chairman will be bouncing off the ceiling when he returns from holiday this weekend.

There has been much critisism about lack of information by many fans and I think this explains the lack of PR about the new stadium from the club. The problem I see is that the council/peel don't understand or aren't interested in the business/marketing needs for the club to keep its supporters and the media updated.

I'm not defending the member of staff at the club because this person obviously f*ck*d up by not phoning sky back. I do think though that sometimes a few of us including myself at times are quick to over criticise the club at every possible opportunity.

It's very obvious everything is progressing, I drove past the site on Tuesday and there must have been about a dozen big diggers and numerous earth moving trucks!

True indeed. I went past this morning & after being hacked off for the last 2 days by the 'Boots n'all' fiasco it was refreshing to see the amont of activity on the site. When I told my boss what was going on there he remarked that there seemed to be a sense of urgency with the amount of plant on there. I neglected to tell him that it had taken us nearly 4 years to get from the NWDA clearence to get to this point.

I did mention this a few weeks ago but have now had it confirmed that a healthy bonus is payable if the work is finished before the scheduled date, think all that can stop that now is a typical monsoon summer, let's hope that we get the driest on record.

Does anyone know if the current work is finished ahead of time if the actually building work will start earlier than planned? for me the more work done on site by the time the application for the next franchise is deliveredthe better it looks for us.

No because there will already be a Development Schedule with confirmed dates for submitting tenders, choosing the main contractor, awarding the contract and starting the work. There is always a time period between being awarded the contract and starting the work. This allows the contractor to have the manpower, equipment and any initial materials needed in place.

We don't know if the remediation contractor is ahead of schedule or not? but if they are it may be because they have another contract to move on to after this one.

Been past today on my way to Irlam and the site looked very busy. While not as angry as some posters i am surprised we missed this opportunity to state the progress made. For years Salford has been constantly criticised by Fans from all clubs including our own fans, openly deriding our efforts to get a stadium built. So many false starts had us all believing nothing would ever happen. But now it has and whatever we may think of Boots and All, it is watched by fans from other clubs. This seemed an opportunity to show RL doubters that we have finally got under way. If other chances to bang our drum come along we must take them. I cant believe no-one at the club had the authority to speak to Sky while Mr Chairman is away but if that is the case then next time lets appoint a spokesman who can keep all media outlets up to date.

Went down to the club this afternoon & asked about the boots n all statement.
Contrary to some folk thinking I just look at the club through rose tinted specs,


I was told, by a very reliable source at the club that the Sky reporter, Angela Powers I believe, was got back to & told at that moment a statement was not available, but would be for next week. Eddie obviously did not get the correct message relayed to him from whoever at Sky.

If that is the situation then I feel Sky Sports should do the honorable thing and make a public apology to both the club and the Salford supporters on next weeks show! I think Eddie Hemmings is a decent guy and I'm sure when he is made aware of this he will go out of his way to clear the matter up.

Please note my previously stated opinions on the c**p excuse of a stadium we're being lumbered with and how I believe this is partly the fault of the club.

My opinion of the said journo stands and I completely believe that she'll have done, or not done, what has been suggested by the club.

Perhaps some will believe that everything negative to do with the club is undoubtedly the clubs fault? Let's face it, we'll never really know the truth.

In this particular case, I do have sympathy with the club. The joint venture no doubt has to agree on press releases and other communications, so there'll be a clash of each partners' own departments and, therefore, egos. Messages have to go through more channels, some of which may get lost or distorted. If one of the partners doesn't want to release anything, then nothing gets released. Plus, I bet there's a few councillors sweating over any negativity because there's no shortage of opponents regarding the loan to build the new stadium.

Publicly, this is making the club look like amateurs to us and deceptive to opposition supporters. With hindsight, perhaps it would have been a better idea for the club to distance itself from the new stadium, publicly, as soon as RCD went under. Really, the JV should have its own PR outlet for enquiries such as this; I think they are being overly secretive. However, as I've just mentioned above, internal and external politics must be a huge issue.



That's not necessarily the case. Salford Star want to be supportive team matters and are aware of the good work the foundation does for example, particularly the work they did in Broughton. The issue is that the editor and, seemingly, its current pool of writers don't follow the Reds or rugby league. I wrote a couple of articles for them last year about how the team were performing. I'm sure if anybody wanted to volunteer to do match reports or team updates they would welcome them with open arms.

Salford Star will still be critical of the club in regards to the stadium because they're dubious of John Wilkinson and Salford City Council's business dealings. That stance probably won't change and the loan for the stadium no doubt compounded the issue. However, as I said, as far as the team and other club departments are concerned, I reckon they'd be receptive to new writers.

Let's just wait and see if Sky make an apology first before we try and disprove the explanation that Angela Powers failed to relay the message to Eddie Hemmings. If there is no apology on the show within the next couple of weeks, then and only then, will I believe that someone at the club has screwed up. It will be very interesting to see what happens because if the explanation is a lie then it will have made the situation a whole lot worse, probably resulting in someone having to say bye,bye.
