Well as you point out my spelling isn't the best but then again being profoundly dyslexic I think I'm allowed the odd slip up. The spelling mistakes aside (though I think might or mite and no's or know's are easier to spell than purport)I think I make more vaild points than you do and don't chose to hide behind an internet forum to obviosuly snipe at a club and organisation you have an axe to grind.
As others have said the club is run on the tightest shoe string and without a massive cash injection for backroom staff, better training and sundries we will always struggle regaurdless of who we put out on the field. That is why myself and other fair minded fans are willing to see what change of fortune the new stadium gives us before we begin to slag officials at the club off.

| Quote ="Ayres Rock"No it doesn't help because as I said what evidence do you have that proves that he was the person who signed McRae on that contract. because I am pretty sure the directors and particular Wilky and Howard would have had the final say in that matter as is the case at the moment.
Again what evidence do you have to show he was the person who signed said players who were crocked? Iwould have thought that decision would of been down to the manager wanting them players. It is not Simms' job to tell the manager who he is and isn't having, more his job to make the deals happen.
'"
You have proved my point with your next post. He doesn't give the contracts to the coach, he doesn't sign the players etc. Basically he does nothing that he can be held accountable for.

What I said was the club, give's the impression of being run amateurishly at the top,I feel sorry for the people
who have to get people to go.Its nothing to do with shoestrings, you must admit if you told somebody, that your team
as a football manager, the only one in the league to do so, they would say you must be the richest.wouldn't they.I have never hid behind anything in my life, certainly not a fans forum. And by the way I did not slag anyone off,

| FFS people it's an internet forum not an English lesson, can we please stop bitching at each other and concentrate on the subject itself rather than the person posting. Reasoned debate is much encouraged (and much needed I'll add ) but virtually every thread on here at the moment is breaking down into a personal fight. I know it's tough around the club at the moment and I'm sure if we were tucked in the top 8 and in the quarters of the cup 99% of this wouldn't be being said.
We all come on here for the same reason (I trust) and that's to make our feeling known about the club that we love (for better for worse and all that). We all want the team / club to be successful and it's very emotive subject but lets remember that like Macc Red we do attract new fans to this forum, lets not put them off too soon eh?
On this subject, you may note I haven't added anything and I don't profess to know the in's and out of what's going on in the club but I will say don't believe everything you read in the press and remember there's always going to be someone at the club that will divide people.
But IMHO I'd go for Gentle, I've heard a hell of a lot of good stuff about the man but it's not my decision (and I'm delighted it isn't BTW ) but whoever the new man is hell need all our support to put things right and I'll guarantee one thing the people who are employing him will be doing it for what they see as is the best for the club.
Sorry about the long rant, just had to get it off my chest.

No the point i was making to you and CeeBeeJames and that Chico has also made, no one here can exactly say what Simms' role entails unless you can prove differently. So it's OK saying that he does nothing that he can be held accountable for but the things that people try to blame him for might not actually be in his job description so is being wrongly accused.

I am saying you have no idea what a director of football does. People familiar with RL do. Likewise people who know about recuitment and selection know that blabing to the press - like simms did re wrigley - is rank amateurism.
However if JW defines a director of football as a knuckledragging goffer you and he will be very happy.

| I'm sorry have I missed something here, did Simms actually tell the press anything regarding Wrigley or did he answer the questions that were asked by a journalist? Could the said journo not have got his information from another source, maybe one down under, an agent shall we say?
Journo: "There's a rumour that your client Kurt Wrigley is on Salford's wish, list is this true?"
Agent: "Yeah we've been in contact with them and they will be coming over next week to speak to him and I've told him to have a chat with them"
A week later;
Journo: "Hi is there and updates regarding Kurt and the Salford job as I believe the club officials are on their way over to Oz as we speak"
Agent: "Yeah mate, Kurt doesn't want the job; we've spoken about certain other opportunities for him but he'll speak with them anyway"
Journo: "Steve I believe Wrigley has turned the Salford job down"
Simms: "Wrigley is now no longer a contender for the position we have."
"I've spoken with him, I've also had talks with his agent and it's clear he does not want to be considered for a job with us."
"Souths were happy for him to speak with us - they would not have stood in his way had an opportunity to become a head coach in Super League with Salford been offered to him but he will stay where he is."
"That's fine by us, we know where we stand and we've said all along we want someone who is fully prepared and totally committed to fulfilling the role of a head coach."
I read over and over what was printed in the press and I can honestly say I don't see what your issue is (bearing in mind the fact you don’t support Salford as well!). As a very passionate Salford fan I find nothing wrong with what’s been said, I know of many players reported in the press being linked with another club only for them to turn the contract down, why is this any different? We'll just move on a hopefully get a coach that wants to be at the club and wants to be successful with us.
In fact does anyone else have an issue with it?

| My guess is that Neil Barker from the MEN will have phoned Simms knowing already that Wrigley wasn't getting the job. Rumours are circulating that Wrigley had priced himself out of consideration a week before they set foot on the plane to interview all the applicants.

You are ahead. previously we have had imagined conversations between wrigley and maguire. Now you have three imaginary participants. Well done. Perhaps someone can go for 4 or 5 pretend conversations?
I am sure Simms would be delighted that some salford supporters are okay with his bumbling ineptitude.
If the rumours about gentle being the new head coach are true then things should certainly improve at salford, as long as he has the freedom to make decisions.
Gentle has been a very capable 3rd string coach at West. He has had the opportunity to work with a master in Sheens.
Would expect a prompt overhaul of your conditioning and a much tougher regime for players. Wests have had Foulkes in charge of conditioning and he is very capable.
Would also expect your assistants to be moved on unless they have longish contracts.
I hope they give the guy at least 4 years to get things on a solid footing.

Instead some nobbers decide to post the same old sheet about simms. Just start a new thread and talk amongst yourselves. The rest of us wanna feel a bit giddy and excited! Not often we get a new coach and it let's us dream!

That wouldn't be popular with the fans. McRae's 4 year tenure has drained everyone. You can argue the merits of giving McRae or anyone else that long a deal but regardless - even if it was Wayne Bennett, for example - fingers have been stung.
Unless of course it was two years initially with the possibility of a two year extension.

'"
Back on topic.
I'd be more than happy if Gentle was given the job. I'm sure he's been waiting for this kind of opportunity for some time. Salford need a coach that has a real purpose when he wakes up in the morning rather than someone who's had a big coaching job before with the only motivation being the contract. I hope if it is Gentle that he views this as a once in a lifetime chance to make a good reputation as a head coach with (no disrespect to Salford at the present time) a view to landing an even bigger job in the NRL in the future.
I knew nothing about Gentle so I've been doing a little digging on the internet and this is what I found. He's got plenty of experience working previously as assistant at Cronulla under Stuart Raper (He was there the last time the Sharks made the play-offs in 2005). He's also been at the Tigers for some time under Sheens and Wests must rate him if he's been offered a new 3 year contract. He coached one of the junior teams to a semi final a couple of years back. Further to this he coached NSW under 18's to victory against Queensland in Brisbane last year and was assistant coach for the Australian national team against New Zealand recently. He also seems very comfortable dealing with the media and comes across very well on some NRL video's that I viewed. He often deputises for Tim Sheens. I also noted his agent is David Howes (British) and his nickname is 'Gents'. Gentle has also worked with Royce Simmons at Wests.
What Salford need is a working coach who will role his sleeves up and take to the training field, it appears from what I've read he will do this.
As for him being third string I don't know because it appears most NRL clubs have two assistant coaches? One will work on say defence and video analysis and the other on attack and other areas. I did read that Steve Folkes was very complimentary about Peter Gentle when he was given the St George assistant's job saying Gentle was a great coach.
Typically after doing this research on Gentle it's bound to be someone else that gets the job now. (With the evening news getting it all wrong) Neil if it is Gentle I'll be expecting a cheque in the post!
