My thanks go to both for providing me one of the loves of my life, I think for most of us we would be poorer without Salford to follow.

Hey Guys I posted on here about an event I thought was very positive for our club with a professionally run well attended event. It's something very positive with lots of people turning out to buy season tickets and 2015 shirts.
Let's publicise it as such and get people talking positive about "Our Club". Let's face it we are the best marketing people to promote what's going with the Club.
There's too much negativity about and we can change it!

My grandad was the head doorman on the willows he knew the old Co bosses very well and he said Snape (keith brain's brother, Brian was riddled with cancer and was the reason he gave up as chairman) sold the club to Wilkinson before it was then sold to greenalls all underhand apparently, this was before Wilkinson even took control of the rugby club, and I'm being told to read Salford history books? You do realise half the people who write these books get their info from the club ie Wilkinson tarry and the other clowns, I could write a book saying Wilkinson was the great train robber but it doesn't mean it's true, trust me all the legendary stories you hear about Wilkinson arnt true, oh an another thing the willows lost a lot of money when it lost its gambling licence so had to resort to changing the casino to a restraunt, so it wasn't actually Brian snape who flogged the club it was his snide brother trying to sell off his dying brothers assets for a quick buck.

Lets get this right, Wilky bought the club for nothing from a guy that didn't own it, some 17 months before it was official, sold off a huge asset and pocketed the money.

Yeah he was a small time company at that time he wasn't international then so in international company terms yeah he was small, not white van man small that your making out.

I didn't say for nothing I said for peanuts from Brian Snapes brother who was then owner of the club due to Brian becoming poorly, it was defiantly Wilkinson who sold the club on to greenalls that money was used to expand hid welding firm to the size it is, listen unless you were there don't comment on something you only think you know through reading out of books, and yeah he baught the variety centre first my grandad was called into a meeting about the takeover at the club before Wilkinson took over as chairman, he always disliked Wilkinson and as a kid I never understood why, but after him explaining the underhanded way he took control of the club I now know why, he was a nice guy underneath but that doesn't make him a nice businessman, and that's what you lot have to realise.

How sure are you that Grandad didn't get his wires crossed? Just think about what you are saying - Brian Snape an extremely astute businessman who lived a few years after the takeover allowed his brother to sell his rugby club for peanuts to Wilky who then sold the Variety Centre and pocketed the money some 17 months before he officially became the owner? Do you honestly believe for a second that a self made multi-millionaire with an empire of hotels would be that dumb?

You may be influenced by Grandad's dislike for Wilkinson (Whatever the reason's are?) but you need to be very careful because your comments could be considered slanderous without evidence and could legally land you in very hot water.

Firstly I and lots of other people thought that yesterdays Open Day etc was excellent.
Secondly as other posters have pointed out the Variety Centre was sold to Greenall Whitley in 1980 and John Wilkinson took control of the club on the 3rd January 1982 so just how could he have sold the club to Greenalls eighteen months to two years before he actually owned the place?

It is time to move on and be positive.
It's just a shame that Mike's bile and character assassination of the guy who kept this club going for years has tarnished such a positive thread.
I couldn't be there yesterday ,and I know it wouldn't have happened under Wilky(different times and styles), but by all accounts it was tremendous.
Really looking forward to the best season in years and a good tough squad.

Being a Salford fan we have a way of taking what was a very positive open day and turning into a negative rant in the past



I attended the open day & was blown away with the marketing, which has gone up a level or two. I also liked what MK said about the mistakes he made last year, long gone were is bold predictions. If anyone wanted proof of his commitment you only had to see how he operated yesterday. Finally well done Salford for recognizing local rugby clubs.

Anyway for Mikes ears only Please understand Rugby League clubs do NOT make money. Wilkys huge losses are there to be seen in the Public Domain - Your Grand Dads are not. Tot the debts up and you will see they total many Millions of Pounds and to cap it all since Iain Watson`s demise any Willows `assets` he had have now gone. So as I said - time to draw a line and move on as this Season is going to be Special I feel. Outsiders for Wembley even?

Another positive from yesterday was Marwan stating categorically that Salford would remain "In Salford" while he was running the club. He mentioned that they were looking at the possibility of putting one or two games on the road in Manchester to spread the word and promote the club.
We as fans need to support this by making sure we attend these games so the atmosphere is great for neutrals attending. What better atmosphere could it be with a good turnout and some of our usual songs being sung.
As stated earlier we can market the club and play our own part in marketing the club!!

Yes it would also be great to see a big away following for the opener at Warrington.

Where we have a start of 12 points with Bet Fred - surely worth a crack with the team we have assembled.

Especially with it being the first game. I'd prefer us to play Warrington and then Saints in the opening two rather than about half a dozen games in when they are in full stride.

I wasn’t there yesterday but was this new museum/heritage bit open?

Couldn't make this open day either, but from the previous one and what I read the SRDF set the museum up for occasions like this, not as a permanent feature. ( I may be wrong, but am very sure I will be corrected if I am)
