| Superleague is a business and any business that tries to maintain status quo and doesn't react to the competition is heading for failure.

| Quote ="JobsForTheWives"So your answer is to sit back and do nothing, just cater for whatever is left after the NRL and RU have cherry picked all the talent they want.Who says there isnt enough money for clubs to take onboard a few quality star players. We dont know the answer to that because the salary cap is currently restricting clubs spending.'"
So you genuinely believe that there are more than four clubs, no, scratch that, any club that can afford to spend £4m every year on players wages?
Quote ="JobsForTheWives"Its no good just sitting back and accepting a situation without even trying a new approach.'"
It is nothing new. Wigan monopolised the game in the free-for-all during the late 1980s and 90s punctured only by Widnes, who couldn’t keep up the player spend. Much of the commentary then was about how this domination was killing the game and how rugby league could be more competitive — levelling the playing-field. I have no faith in clubs not overspending to the point of bankruptcy, again.
I have no truck with marquee players being able to earn limitless amounts of money. The problem with doing away with the salary cap is that the wage demands from the bulk of decent, okay, take-em-or-leave-em players go up. And then you're left with the same problem.
I could go for a minimum spend of £1.5m with three designated marquee players that are exempt. That would allow for enough [ugenuine [/u talent to be kept in Super League without wage inflation. This, of course, brings its own problems; namely unprofessional things such as jealousy.

I agree this is a far better option than simply raising the cap to say £2.5m. The last thing we want to see is average players and their agents milking the sport for more than they are worth.

The answer is i dont know who can afford to spend £4m and who cant.Only the clubs themselves would know that but at least give them the option to do that if thats what they want to do.Rules and regulations would still be in place with the RFL to oversee what impact a clubs spending is having on their overall well being but we have to start trusting the Guys who are now running the SL clubs that they know what they are doing from a financial point of view.Like i have said earlier,if a club breaches those rules then they pay the penalty.
Times have changed and SL needs to start moving with those times. We cannot keep quoting what happened with Wigan as an example of why we should never try anything new again.
I am not saying that there should be no limits, but let the clubs themselves decide what their financial limits are. With the calibre of people who are now owning and running SL clubs i have more faith in their ability to do the right things than i do in the RFL doing it for them.

I agree that just because something has happened before, even if the ramifications were deep, it shouldn’t totally influence future policy. But you should certainly learn from history. And the biggest misjudgement anyone can make is that 'times have changed' to the point that nothing in history can ever relate to it. You realise this when looking through the last 140 years of rugby commentary. In many ways, most things have already happened before.

| Salfraud in with some money and want it scrapped. That is the best joke of the year. What you do when Koucash goes to a football club because is bored. Salary cap evens all teams out and i think the cap should stay to upset Koucash.Need more fans firstly. Manchester United and football rules Salfraud.

Are you about to appear on Mastermind soon? Specialist subject "stating the bleedin' obvious"

| I'm always happy to see more money coming into SL, and wish that all in SL could have big spending benefactor, but i do wonder how many here considered removing the cap before you came into money.
Looking forward to seeing your team for next season....

They call it arrogance, Wigan trademarked it, Leeds thought they'd buy a franchise in it, Wire adopted its fiscal policies, apparently it's a bad thing until you adopt it yourself, then, then it's all good.

Honest answer is I wouldn't have wanted it raising (before Dr took over) purely from a selfish point of view of wanting my team to be as close to the big clubs as possible. Looking at it from a different angle of Superleague falling way behind the NRL and Union and retaining more class players I can see the argument for increasing the cap.
Perhaps the best solution is allowing 2-3 marquee players outside the cap rather than just raising the overall cap. This way average players won't just get more money because of a cap rise. My concern for SL is all the best players will leave, crowds will fall and we are then left with mediocre players earning more than they are worth.
Without a cap rise or marquee player allowance I still feel Salford have potential to be very competitive in 2-3 years, in a much lower standard of Superleague than at present or previously.

Maybe, just possibly,it might have something to do with trying to compete with NRL and RU.Unless of course you will be happy to see all the best talent playing there. We cant sit back and do nothing.
Salford have long been the feeding club for wealthier SL teams. We have always produced quality young players. To lose them to fellow SL teams is one thing we are well accustomed to but now to run the risk of losing them to NRL and RU because of Cap restrictions is not acceptable.
Dr Koukash has already stated that he knows a lot of very wealthy people who would love to get involved with SL but they find the regulations and restrictions very off putting and the buisness plan of the RFL a joke.We need to get these people into the game so just maybe a few changes will be good for all.

If these people exist they would get involved and force change from the inside.
The salary cap issue and Salford is based on having the money and wanting to spend it for the good of Salford , there nowt wrong with that but please dont try and tell me its good for rugby league to have a few rich clubs just buying up all the talent cos they can , like man city or chelski.

I disagree it isn't just about Salford. Do I want to see players like Tomkins and Dobson playing in the NRL? No I'd much prefer them to stay and put bums on seats in SL regardless of who they play for.
Do you not have the foresight to see where the British game is heading and the damaging effect it will have on Superleague to lose many of it's best players? The bigger or wealthier clubs will still be dominant but the standard and appeal of SL will fall significantly if nothing is done.
