| Quote ="king of the shed"My thoughts as posted on the V.T earlier today.
To be fair, I'm not sure what Wilky is doing saying that as it's nothing to do with him (ultimately) as SRLFC don't own the ground, that's down to the Joint venture Company / Management, Salford City Council & Peel Holdings, it's their decision at the end of the day. However (and I say this as a Liverpool fan) from a personal view I'd rather have MUFC reserves playing there, it could help to build a link between Salford & Utd that could be very beneficial in the long run (Sponsorship etc), but like I say that's just my view, oh and besides most of the comments from Sale fans I've read haven't been to enthusiastic about the whole thing so much so many say they wouldn't attend!'"
Got to agree with you there KOTS (except for the bit about supporting the filth ). Makes total sense to me to groundshare with Utd reserves & youth team. Yes, there is likely to be pitch damage from overuse but it'll be a damn sight better than if Sale play there with all their scrummaging etc. And the poster that stated "Utd aren't from Salford" that may geographically be the case (although OT is what, 200 yards over the border?) but their "soul" is arguably in Salford as that's where a lot of the "hardcore" fans are from. Imagine the sort of exposure Salford would get from a link up with arguably the world's biggest football club, it would certainly be something to braga bout.

| I reckon JW has been put up to making these comments to lay the groundwork for the JV to bring them in.
Struggling to see what we have to gain out of the situation. The likelihood of crossover between the two sets of fans is very minimal, and given their much bigger profile we risk being crowded out of our own "home". Sale are unlikely to throw their corporate contacts our way (if they'd even be interested anyway).

| NO, NO, NEVER.
There would only be one winner and that would definately not be our beloved Reds. We have a fantastic opportunity to establish ourselves as a regional force with the chance of at long last attracting new supporters.
If the union boys get in our stadium, they will dilute or efforts at best and completely dominate us at worst. WE HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN FROM THIS PARTNERSHIP.
I for one will have nothing to do with groundsharing with Union. If they get in, I'M OFF!

Of all the gambles to take with groundshare this is by far the most dangerous.
a Maanchester teams football reserves games preferred if any.
Leeds Rhino's get away with it because they are the dominant name and both clubs are run by the Caddicks / Hetherington .
We would be swallowed up by such a deal sorry but true .
My only guess is it's going to happen and this is an attempt to spin an' it was our idea' story ..'"
I share your concerns but I think we are forgetting one extremely important factor here. Salford City Council are building this stadium to promote the image of the City and the name of 'Salford', whilst providing community facilities. As stadium owners with Peel I cannot see them allowing any team without the 'Salford' name to take centre stage at Barton and call all the shots. I just can't see the council approving of a name change without consequences of that stadium tennent being evicted. Now if it was Sale Sharks and they changed their name to Salford Sharks I'm sure they would welcome that with open arms.

I've thought of this idea before but to be honest what would be in it for United or City? Would it help them sell any more season tickets? I very much doubt it.
They are already trying to screw every fan for every penny and they certainly wouldn't like the thought of their supporters spending their money with another sports club not in their ownership.

I must be missing something I never realised a groundshare is a partnership. If two or more companies work out of the same rented office block are they partners? I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves here.
Has anyone stopped and thought that another tennent sharing the stadium costs could possibly allow Salford to compete more equally at maximum salary cap? The thought 'cut your nose off to spite your face' comes to mind. Who cares what it may do for Sale Sharks if they played at Barton if it makes Salford a more competitive force in Superleague!

| Ask county fans (I work with several)
Sale has fleeced the football club.
Or ask Lancashire Aero Club
Also the matter of primary tenancy is a real stumbling block. We would have to take a real minor role in the partnership.
Lastly, it IS not in Sale's interest to move as they get a large number of fans from South Manchester and our new location will be a drag for them to get to.
But we have no say in the matter.
And will be stuffed if the franchise does not arrive.

| One aspect that's not been mentioned so far in this thread concerns the general development and profile of the relative games. Sale, and the RFU, have a fair amount of rugby union development clout (money). What if they were to see a foothold in Salford as an opportunity to use thier muscle to develop the game of rugby union in a new area - sending all their (and the RFUs) development bods into all the schools in Salford to encourage them to play (and watch) union? Do we like that prospect?

There's a similar thread on the Leigh board and I said exactly the same - for what it's worth, Sale nominated the LSV as their 'cold weather' ground for the Heineken Cup this year and were going to play their postponed Euro game at Leigh until the ERC told them to play it at Galashiels as it would be sorted quicker, so we've been in much the same boat with talks of a groundshare etc.

I think this has already been going on, stealth like with PE teachers from rugby yawnian areas infiltrating Salford Schools, only a few years back Moorside were the NW under 16s Yawnain champions.

But then again, you're a rabid anti-football person, so that's to be expected.
Having United reserves would bring more benefits with less potential issues than having Sale in. city's reserves won't move in, they're currently attempting to take over the whole of East Manchester so they wouldn't want to move out to Barton.

United's reserves currently play at Altrincham. They've played at Hyde, Northwich and Bury before now. The host teams don't pay United anything and get to keep any money handed over at the turnstile. A few hundred people in on a Thursday night buying a pie and a pint can certainly make it worthwhile.

That's OK but how much do they charge for entry? If it's only £5 it would hardly be worth it for the numbers they get.

It is about a fiver. But the bar's usually always full at Alty and there's often a big queue for the food. If it wasn't worthwhile, they wouldn't do it.

| Would dare say United would be prepared to pay a significant rental fee per game in return for a decent quality pitch as this is the situation at the LSV with Blackburn only charging £2 over the gate but paying thousands for rent to ensure the pitch is in good nick.
