F.F.S a father,brother son and husband has been in such turmoil that the only way out was to end his life,only a cold hearted sub human would not feel sympathy for his family and would not wish peace in death for Terry Newton.Hopefully no-one would EVER have to go through this situation with any member of their family

As some one who has tried to take his life (twice) i can understand Terry Newtons desperation, I am really sorry for his family as this must be a shock to them. To me doesnt matter what errors he made he was someones son, brother, dad etc. a 31yr old man took his life, it is tragic. I just hope the RFL did not wash there hands of him when banning him but tried to provide support.

My deepest condolences to all Terry's family and friends. As a fan I can only say he was one of the players you didnt like when he was opposition but you wanted in your team.

Seriously we are here offering our condolences so yes RIP is right rugby is just a game. This tragedy is v.much real life. Honestly where do some of these posters come from.

Its just hard to believe as he was on sky a few weeks ago being interviewed by Brian Carney and it seemed that he was getting his life together. Solly, i am afraid you were bang out of order. Mods PLEASE HAVE A WORD.

RIP Terry Newton. Never really liked the guy until i read his book. Like it was stated in there, he was a player opposition fans hated but would of loved him in their team! Gutted for his family and close friends. It did seem like he was getting his life back on track with running his pub and stuff, but clearly he was a troubled man. Real shame.

Very very sad hopefully Terry can find peace now, obviously had a few problems behind close doors. Respected the guy a lot even when done for drugs held his hands up and admitted the crime unlike most athletes. Maybe the RFL or the drug testers could provide counciling for banned athletes???

He kind of did - Started a thread on their board calling them fickle and saying it was a disgrace that there was no tribute thread, although it had been stickied.

Still, the ever so eloquent post from chatham warrior is completely uncalled for.

A player we all loved to hate but would have had him in our team any time. Deeply tragic story and a sad day for RL, irrespective of what has happened in the recent past.
Some utterly dense comments passed on this thread by people with no class and limited respect for what is left behind after such a tragic loss.

regardless of whether he was the opposition player you loved to hate, the guy you liked to see mixing it with the aussies, the guy who got a drugs ban, at the end of the day he was still a human being just like the rest of us, and I hope noone on here ever feels whatever it is that made Terry feel that desperate. RIP fella.

Awful news , condolences to his family and friends.

Tragic , he was only 31. A professional RL players career is short and usually then they have their whole lives in front of them and great memories to look back on , Terry made a mistake and for lots of people , including me at times, he was a sort of pantomime bad guy. It's shocking to think he felt he had no one to turn to and opted to end his life in such a way. In my life I've known two people who have chosen to act this way , it comes as a shock because although you know they're going through hard times you rarely get a warning.
The transition from full time player, to life outside the game, especially a top ranking one is hard. You hear lots of them say "since a was a kid, it's all I've ever known " It's a time for his fellow professionals , friends and family to mourn and fans to reflect maybe and not be so judgemental or personal to the people who play and coach in this wonderful game. Brings us all down to earth times like these.
