Bit annoyed that the programmes sold out, but I suppose I should've got there earlier.
The stewards, police and toilet situation at the end was a joke. Apparently they can't tell the difference between a football crowd and rugby crowd, but hey ho. The copper eventually let me through to the loo after a couple of minutes of protesting. I really don't know what they thought would happen? Shame because up until then the stewarding had been really friendly.
Still, belting away day, I'm looking forward to future visits there.'"
Saw a bit of a discussion outside the gates post match and wondered what was going on.
I think the police may have spotted you GT in the toilets at half time and thought you liked the place so much you didnt want to leave. You and Mclennan were like a pair of women using the bogs for a bit of a natter.
Good job Billinge Lump and my good self dragged you out of there, otherwise i suspect you would both have missed the second half.

It's because you were "goading" away fans and pointing them out for fights or so they said. RL could do without thugs like you.
Complete OTT reaction from the police must admit.

Fair enough I didn't see the pre-match stuff, just started watching at kick-off. Someone asked about the stadium and I simply gave an observation, to which one of your petty 'fans' decided to get touchy and turn the thread into a Leeds/Saints tit-for-tat.
I just said the pitch looked questionable for a new ground but as you have pointed out it was just cosmetic. Looking forward to visiting myself.

| Saints ground was impressive , in reality the fabric ( breeze block, Steel & cladding ) is similar to ours but the location , near to the town , and and the little touches, colour scheme, memorabilia pub signs adjacent to the kiosks worked.
parking was pretty easy , £1 to park in the centre car parks after 5pm , just a 5 minute walk away. Beware of the retail park parking across from Tesco , they had stooges out threatening to Ticket anyone parking for the ground.
There seemed to be an overreaction by the stewards / Specials to the group of Salford supporters in the north stand , at least from where i was looking in the east stand. one wonders how they plan to cope with larger away support (= everyone bar Broncos & catalans )if they are spooked by a few fans singing,
enjoyed the game all the same even though we were steam rollered late 2nd half.

I'm going to guess that you're going off the tickets sold from Salford's ticket office there. Considering plenty of people I know bought tickets on the day or directly from St. Helens I'd say you need to add a few more on. We had 200 there at least, maybe a few more.

| Saints new stadium is much closer to what I was hoping for for us than us Barton is. It's clear that the RL club have been involved from the start whereas the exact opposite is true for us.
Probably my favourite of the modern RL stadiums.

I think you fell 'victim' to three things: first of all, it was our official opening night and Saints sensed a decent turnout from home fans. Secondly, Salford never bring many (which I always think is astounding given we are just a straight trip down the East Lancs from each other) and so it was easy to relocate your fans in order to facilitate the sizeable number of Saints fans anticipated. Thirdly, the club had its knuckles rapped because the West Stand got overloaded at one end during the Widnes match and so a further capacity restriction was placed on attendance. It was much easier, therefore, to relocate Saints ticket buyers (as opposed to season ticket holders) to the away end given the previous two points (low attendance from Salford fans and it being our opening night).
As for the rest of your post ... unfortunately Salford fans, like Hull fans (and previously Warrington fans although not so in recent years), have a reputation for trouble which preceeds them, whether or not there was actually any trouble on Friday night. As an away fan it is poor form, not to mention stupid, to wind up the home support, especially on their stadium's opening night! So if those you know who were thrown out tried to do that then IMO it is always going to be the away fans who get the treatment. That would be the same if it was Saints fans winding up Salford fans at Salford.

| Having watched Saints since 1975 I must admit I have never been aware of Salford fans having a reputation for trouble, not sure where that has come from. Personally never had any trouble at Salford over the years.
As for being stuck in the corner the fact is most of the rest of the ground bar the terracing in the EAST is sold out with season tickets. Given the volume of travelling support was c 300 it wouldnt have made sense to put Solly fans anywhere else .

Give over. Winding up opposition supporters is part of what goes on at a sporting event. I've always enjoyed the fact that, at RL, you can give each other stick with no need for any police or stewarding intervention and then end up in the pub afterwards having a drink together. The same happened on Friday - aside from the dibble and stewards deciding to act like it was a football match. We'll be getting locked in after the final whistle, next.

On the plus side...
Good views (even from the corner where the Salford support was, apart from not being able to see the Sky TV screen)
Easy to get to / get away from after the game.
Like at Warrington, there's a mix of standing or seats.
On the minus side.
Not sure about the stand roof being on stilts. If the weather blows in from the North, I reckon that the North Stand concourse area would be decidely cold and wet.
Not enough toilets. (Only one block of gents for the whole of the North stand).
Turnstiles not particularly well marked.

| I was sat next to you lot on Friday and I thought you were brilliant, you never stopped singing all the game. I would like to appologise for the odd idiot who tried to goad you, they were an embarressment to our club.
I walked out of the same entrance as you and I thought the line of stewards were a bit much. One of your fans in front of me wanted to turn left to use the toilet but was not allowed through, disgusting, its rugby not wendyball.
I for one look forward to you visiting again.

That was all very pointless since there weren't any stewards stood outside, you could just walk out and then back in to the ground further up so it's not like it even achieved the objective of keeping the Salford and Saints fans apart. I walked straight through them without any issues but I wasn't wearing colours which might be why. That sort of stewarding isn't required at an RL game at any rate (maybe the Dull derby or Warrington/Widnes at most) and just risks winding people up and creating a problem.

Not too sure about the others, but the South Stand (behind the sticks) holds 2,500 apparently, and has two sets of toilets, I'd presume the North stand is the same.

Two small sets of toilets at that. The toilets at Barton are a bit too small in my opinion and I thought Saints' were fine to be honest. I didn't have a problem when I went in before the game nor at half time.
