| Quote ="wardleyred"other than losing to bratfud,i would like to know off some pie fans if they have had a tougher game so far this season!?our defence looked solid and thought we gave it em quite well up the middle to(think it was riddel who come off a bit worse for wear in one big hit!)like mentioned we just lack a few creative attacking ideas, kicking game has really improved over last few weeks(one bad attacking kicktoday i think),ima big fan of ste tyrer, but he is deffo the weakness in our backline which most oppostion keep finding!
overall keep it up red men!
'"
I like Tyrer when he has ball in hand, not so much when the opposition has it and he has to defend. He's made some gaffes this season, knocking on after kicks on the 5th tackle under little to no pressure and today when he left the ball to go out for a 40-20.
On the flipside, we've seen him set up a try against Hull that people would be salivating over should it have been someone like Greg Inglis setting it up, we've seen him go the length of the field against Huddersfield and the guy has the ability to sometimes put defenders on their backside by running with power.

| If it hadn't been the busy easter week then that game would have been a blinder. Sadly both teams were shattered and loads of dropped ball made for a very scrappy game. Your long kicking game was superb and you're defence was very impressive. I expected the fatigue would lead to a try fest because of weak defences but it took its toll on attack instead.
I'm just pleased to have the hard fought win though.

| Defended really well and your kicking game was superb. You will be in the top 10 if you play like that all season! No wooden spoons for Salford! Maybe even top 8.

| Interesting coments from the Pie fans - personally I'm a bit skeptical about top 10, let alone top 8 - but (say it very quietly) - there has been a gradual turn-around with the team - the Hull & Hudds results weren't flukes, and today's performance was sound defensively even if we lacked enough ideas in attack - we need to see the Reds turning over a few sides around us in the table - Cas in a fortnight would do nicely please!

I agree. This time last season people were saying pretty much the same thing after wins against Hull, Warrington and Leeds.
It remains to be seen whether this year we can consistently put in this sort of effort and win games.

| Nice to see opposition fans praising us for a change, and some nice comments. I thought a win would be hard today but the effort shown by the team is really showing atm. As long as that effort remains, regardless of finishing position or games played, we as fans will be more than happy.
We just need to refine the attack, which is a lot easier to tune than a leaky defense and we may have a surprising finish to the season.

| To the Wigan fans. Constructive a credible comments from all of you.
Wigan did a great job on us today. Their effort in the ruck was superior to any team I've seen this year. Now, I know it can often appear that they are lying on and occasionally interfering at the play the ball but alas, I'm afraid they really are not. It's just thoroughly professional work. Making sure a 3rd man joins the tackling contingent and that they collectively ensure that A; the ball does not get released and B; that the player is on his back and or facing his own line.
Also, with three blokes in a slow tackle, it takes an extra second to sort it all out giving the rest of the defence that extra time to get organised and prepared.
Sure, the odd player deliberately left a hand in there, just frustrating the hell out of our forwards but hey, if Thierry isn't interested in this, which is ok by me, then why stop it? I sure wouldn't!
(Maybe we could learn a few tricks from the video of this game. No whinging, just observe and adapt Reds!)
We had to fight against this all game and looking at our players at the end of it, you could see how much it'd taken out of us. Totally wiped-out.
A very good effort from Salford but I reckon we've plenty to work on. Especially in 'arm-wrestle rugby league'.
Once again, well done Wigan!

| Well played by Salford today, i was very impressed by the defence especially. If you keep playing like that you will be in very good shape. Ive seen at least 3 or 4 teams a lot worse than you this season and top 10 is within your reach imo.
Good luck for rest of the season.

| Some magnanimous posts indeed from the Pies and thanks for those especially as we have to read the bile from our regular doomsters `neil` & `smithy` on a weekly basis.
We saw glimpses of what the fans wanted in attack today especially just prior to the Gibson try. In the crossfield move - at last - the forwards were pi$$ed off and with them out of the way quick hands saw the ball whipped across the line. Great stuff and that is the type of stuff we want to see as I have said repeatedly our backs this year are the best we have had for many years so PLEASE Mr McCrae USE them to OUR advantage. We could worry a few sides on firmer ground but 5 drives and a kick has to change.

| I thought Salford looked quite sharp with Ratchford and Holdsworth controlling things reasonably well. It just seemed to lack a little killer instict when it came to attacking in the three quarters area, though Gibson did pretty well too.
I thought the left side defence was very good and did well to keep Goulding out on a few occaisions too.
Overall, after seeing that performance yesterday I'm suprised by Salford's poor start to the season. Also, I'm not sure if McRae is the right coach for that group of players.

| Salford did a lot of good things right yesterday, a bit of composure in attack and you could have really worried us. I predicted a tough hard game and that's what we got. Apart of Saints and Wire games we've had, yours yesterday was the toughest we've had and it was good to see Salford working hard in defence like they did in the first half to keep Wigan from scoring making us cause errors. Keep up consistent performances like yesterday and you'll get a good few more results this year. I suppose it hasn't helped with you having injuries all over the show, of course the people on the sky cameras are only interested in Leeds players being injured but I think with the limited squad you have you'll obviously get better when you get a fully fit squad as proven yesterday with some key players back.

Once they did push Ratchford over (think it was him) when he was trying to play the play forcing him to knock on, that one should of been interference?

Oh definitely. But as mentioned in another thread, Thierry tends to miss this kind of thing. Not deliberately; just by his complete ineptness. Certainly not gonna knock the Wigan player that did it. He obviously realised that there was a chance for him to get away with a sly shove, knowing full well that the ref was likely to miss it.

Not at all.
You could see in the warm up that Salford can ping a ball about with good speed, accuracy and fluency but despite good work by your pack it just didn't come together and the overall structure just seemed to be missing. It could be a similar situation that we had with Brian Noble.
There seems to be a new era of young, overseas coaches who have been in touch and involved with playing & coaching in the NRL in recent years who know the latest & best way to get the best out of current Rugby League players in the modern game physically, mentally and tactically.
Unfortunately, I think McRae's coaching methods are out of date and I think it would a huge, positive impact if they got coach in the same mould as Michael Maguire, Nathan Brown, Tony Smith or Brian McLennan who can bring in an extra dimension to the game.

| Was happy with what I saw from the lads yesterday (after I missed the first 20 mins due to the fecking trams again! ). Defensively we were excellent again and to keep Wigan to 3 tries was no mean feat although I did think the tries they scored were a touch on the soft side. We matched them up front and although I was never confident we quite had enough to win the game we gave a good account of ourselves which is all we can ask for. I think both teams looked a little tired which is understandable but the effort was tremendous. If we can match this level of performance against the mid/lower table teams then we can definitely push for a top 10 finish. Many thanks to all the complementary posts from Wigan fans on here as well, nice to see fans appreciating our efforts and may I return those sentiments to the Wigan team who, IMO, are a major threat to the Saints/Leeds dominance this year.
Now on to Mr Coley. Now I love abusing opposition players like anyone else and feel that an element of abuse/jeering is part and parcel of the game in order to intimidate/put off other teams. I think the time has come to lay Mr Coley to rest (not in the literal meaning ). He shat on us by the manner in which he left our club and we are rightly disgruntled with him for that. He also knows he is not going to get the warmest welcome every time he retuirns to the Willows. I thought the effort a lot of fans put into abusing him in the last few minutes (when the game was lost) and after the final whistle could have been better spent praising our own team after what was a gutsy effort.
Finally, did anyone see O'Loughlin getting clocked on the side of the head by one of those stress balls at the start of the 2nd half? Now, I in no way condone "missile throwing" at players but it was a tad funny .

Yeah I saw it and, while I thought it was a pretty stupid thing to do, I'll admit I laughed.
Fair play to O'Loughlin for seeing the funny side of it and laughing it off.

Thought we built pressure well and i dont think physically and effort wise we can ask anymore.
Lets hope we can continue in this vain of form for the weeks and months to come.
