| Quote ="adamred4life"anyone apart from me think senior would be a great player for us >?
fair enough he old but still got it and proves it time and time again not just in attack but has to be 1 of top 5 defensive players in superlegue, currently out of contract as well think he would be class would replace cash as well!'"
Senior is one of my favourite players of all time but he was terribly lacking defensively last year, just looked asleep at times. Going forward he still has a touch of class and is a wingers dream to play outside of, just look at Scott Donald and Ryan Hall's try scoring record when playing outside him.

| Quote ="Always behind the sticks"Quote ="Dantes Inferno"Well i would definately take a chance on Keith Senior, especially for one season. The main reason being imo, senior has more ability than Gleeson, Gibson, Vievers in offloading out of the tackle, creating overlaps, and busting the line to give our wingers more chance of scoring. Also senior comes with an abundance of experience to pass onto the likes of Gleeson, Gibson etc... Keiths proved to be a top international in recent years whose experience would benefit our young threequarter line immensly.'" '"
I honestly can't believe that you've said that given your massive rant about how the club is mismanaged and the years of under-achieving that you've had to watch.
This is the very reason that i would sign him. Imo our centres Gleeson, Gibson, Vievers, Nero are not up to superleague standard offensively and defensively, hence the reason i'd go for Senior. Our recruitment policy has been poor again and you being in perfect spectator position behind the sticks, would of witnessed a dacades worth of attacking and defensive class from Keith Senior. So my centre pairings would be Moon and Senior, obviously if he made a full recovery from his cruciate injury, i also know Keith through a close friend and he is a monster athlete, trainaholic, and totally dedicated, which is why he has achieved his status in the game.

If you want to make people realise more and more your talking through your crapper your doing a brilliant job.
Nero was for me just about our best layer last season, looked solid in defence and offered plenty going forward and Gleeson was a more than capable centre who looked very dangerous going forward.
Senior is too much of a liability due to his age and the injury he is recovering from, if we can afford him I'd rather spend the money on a decent younger player.

| I've certainly taken issue with DI on other threads, but I think he has a reasonable argument here - did we recruit Chris Nero as a centre or second row? I suspect he may see more time in the forwards next season so a talented wise head in the centres could be very useful. Yes it would be a massive risk, but if we were to offer a deal like HKR apparently have done then the risk is lessened

| I suspect every team in the league would be happy to recruit him on a pay-per-play basis.
I suspect such a contract doesn't really exist as simply as that sounds. Whoever gets him, he's a cost and after the Phil Bailey hullabaloo (a subject which was still rumbling here last week) - well, I just wouldn't want our dear supporters to be put through such a 'gamble' again. Some were frightfully upset about that. Obviously, not the same folk that appear in favour of this 'gamble', that would be wholly contradictory. Tee hee.

I'm with yoi mitie, MR is very insulting and i should no, after all he doesn't want to share oxygen with me.! However on this occasion he is correct, Salford would and should be looking to recruit good young talent.

| It seems that the brain injury rate around Salford is more serious than previously thought.
I can't believe that DI or anyone else would think that Senior is worth a punt. Far too much of a gamble, even on a pay-as-you-play deal. What is the point in bringing in a well-seasoned, old and injury-ridden centre? The only reason would be to hope he remains on the pitch more than off it to plug a gap for 12 months. That's not going to help the team in the long run when we have two young and talented wingers who will constantly have to change centre partners over the next few years if the Club decide to sign stop-gap players. Better to bring in a longer-term centre who is more likely to stay on the field over the course of a season and let a partnership develop. That could be from our own ranks or not.
The odds would be heavily stacked against you if you were to sign Senior. Injury-free with reasonable fitness he could do the business. But just because he's done it in a very good Leeds team for a number of seasons, coupled with age, injuries and lack of a long-term option means for me, the gamble would be too great.
The Club would be better suited putting money behind a more secure venture than a retiring, injury hit ex-star out for a final pay-day.

I take it you live in Salford area then Butcher.
I actually agree with your last point, regarding a more secure venture, but the hierachy haven't, and won't. So the next best thing imo is to try to unleash these talanted wingers we have with an experienced, classy centre with a bit of nouse who has been their and done it. Our wingers would score and learn so much more off a fit and healthy Keith Senior than Gleeson, Gibson and Vievers put together. You should know you were a centre yourself. Or has the thirozene worn off.

Exactly DI,and another thing to add, they would`nt get bullied off the opposing centres, put it this way ,face gleeson or an half fit senior.I know who i`d want on my side.

| Yeah definately agree Mitie mouse, Senior has plenty of aggression in his game which gives players around him that second wind which spurs you on. Our current centres are weak defensively and get rag dolled about far to often when they hit the ball up, and they lose collision frequently.

| I disagree with you DI on one point.
I agree that on his day, Senior is a great Centre. He could provide an incredible platform for Williams or Broughton and this is where I disagree...
...could.
The likely outcome that Senior could replicate his best Rugby for one of our capable wingers? Odds are dropping.
My only disagreement is the fact that time is not on Keith's side. For a team like Salford, where we can't afford to carry players, the odds of Senior being a dud are too high imo.
For the record I never played Centre, amateur or for Salford. As for "Thirozene" once I find out what the hell it is I'll let you know. As a guess, is it a substance that changes your ability to spell it?

I'm sure i saw you play centre and second row, and i would take the gamble on Keith purely for Jodies pace.

| I said brain injury, and that covers a lot of ground. A knock to the head is classed as a brain injury. Brain Damage is something else. Let's not get bogged down in semantics, however. If I offended you then I suppose you should lighten-up a little. I'm pretty sure that you realised that it was a symbolic statement based on the absurdity of an argument. The arguments level of nonsense being the base of the said statement. Like someone saying that someone else is "crazy" because they form the opposite opinion. They are obviously not "Crazy" in any medical terminology but within the terminology of the English Language, the turn of phrase is readily understood.
If the scoring or moral "points" is the intended outcome of this debate, then I'm sure some moral high ground is to be gained by being "outraged" at a slight twist of language to convey an effect. In that case you win.
If, like most normal human beings, you take a statement at face value and presume its effect based solely on its impact to convey a feeling rather than read too much into the literal, you would not make the statements mentioned above.
In other words, lighten up ffs...

| So, to use Dante's own language, it's safe to say he wants Keith Senior in the squad because he's a KS asslicker who sees him through rose tinted spectacles.
