| Quote ="Ian 77 Redux"I have no horses in this race (pardon the pun) but I often stalk this board as I live in Manchester and go to watch Salford every now and then with a pal of mine.
When you thought Salford were going to slide into oblivion you were clearly loving it but trying to come across like you were concerned. Now things are looking up, unquestionably so compared to what they were looking like 10 days ago, you're trying to raise doubts about Koukash and/or his takeover.
You're a big meanie.'"
Couldn't have put it better myself , the veneer had been slipping since the messianic appearance of Dr K.
You've got to feel for the Swinton supporter, after decades of living under the Willows mob , firstly we get a Stadium built for us , then when we've made a hash of the move & the moneys ran out up pops this guy.
I would be sick as a dog with the injustice of it all.
However I will be eternally grateful to the Lions for the way they handled the friendly match and the donation.
No such gesture from Wigan , they all stayed at home and watched it on Pie TV.

You'll get a lot of this crap. Firstly, people will pretend they're really concerned for your fate. They are to a degree, but really, they don't care. Secondly, if all goes according to plan, they'll pretend to be really pleased for you, but really, they're wishing it was their club. Thirdly, if you start winning things, they'll slag you all off for being glory hunters.
Witness the shift at Bradford:-
- Bradford nearly die - everyone is concerned
- Bradford sign sponsorship deal they describe as largest in RL - arms thrown up in air about ethical nature of sponsor!
For my part, and based on the above, I'm delighted it looks like it's going to turn out. I wish you every success but not to the point where you overtake my team, Warrington. That's really what everyone wants if they're honest!

| Even for a report in the Manchester Evening Comic it does fill me with great hope that this is now a formality rather than a dream.
The signings have me intrigued as it reads that the Aussies (or at least players from the NRL) may already be here and will be unveiled at the press conference.

| I really hope all of this comes off for Salford. It would obviously be great for the club, and its fans, but I think the benefits for the game as a whole will be huge. Another big club, spending up to the salary cap in the Salford/Manchester area will improve Super League immensly. Hopefully this will mean that Koukash will really develop the game in the area and get more youngsters/schools/clubs playing the game which will have obvious benefits to the game as a whole and England RL. He definately sounds like the kind of guy that will get all of the right off field structures in place.

| Just watched the five minute press conference on YouTube, must say I'm impressed.
For Salford to obtain a %share in the stadium plus training facilities, academy hostel and other ventures in the surrounding areas is massive for you.
In addition to having a strong Wigan, Wire and Saints it does now seem that both Salford & Widnes are on their way to getting their finances in order (all five have modern stadia - unlike in Yorkshire) and that can only be good for the game in the long run.
Enjoy the season, obviously it make take a couple of years for the hardwork to come to fruition but who's to say we won't start seeing Salford in the latter stages of the playoffs / cup semis, finals in the coming years?
Look forward to the day I see four/five thousand Salford fans in the North Stand at the DW.
Good luck!

| Anyone any idea what time the press conference is set for tomorrow?
On my way to Luxembourg and wouldn't mind making sure I'm able to get a signal at the right time.

I'll be back by them so happy with that, though I'd like it tomorrow and then lots of press releases all week.

| Going off on a tangent but how dumbed down is the web copy on that article? It reads like a telegram. I know attention spans are short online but that is taking the biscuit.

| And just what is a "significant controlling stake" - the stake is either controlling or not !!
BUT regardless of whether Mr Barker has an O level in English or not, just how exciting is all this - think back to the doom and gloom just a very few weeks ago, could it be that being a Salford fan just got a whole lot better?

I think he mean he's got the majority share of the stadium meaning Kaukash now owns 65% and peel left with 35% which is a big deal. didn't the council spend/borrow in the region of 10 million towards the build of the stadium with peel contributing the rest?

Have you heard those figures or are you speculating? Didn't Salford CC originally hold a 51% stake? If so, taking that could be a "controlling stake".

| I'd take anything published in the MEN guardedly , until the truth is out , alot of the story was a rehash of other peoples stories & last weeks press conference post Wigan Game.
Nobody knows!
There was liitle to add in this morning's LE ~It sounds like Dr Koukash wants to keep his ammo dry to maximise the publicity from the actual press day. Even Veivers was not letting on even when some have already been reportedly training with the squad. If you keep people guessing , including us they're more likely to pay attention.
