| One would assume that IF we are happy to let our talented young players leave then we must be happy to toss off all this superleague lark at the end of 2011 and turn into another Swinton/Oldham/Rochdale.

| IIRC the club he goes to have to pay a fee that relates to how long the player has been at Salford at Junior level.
Wigan had to pay Bradford for Pryce and Flanagan

| It seems all we are is a shop window for other clubs to just come and pick and choose from our best players. We may as well just sign over the hill, stop gap players because there's obviously no point in developing young talent and taking a chance on them by giving them a start in Super League if we're not going to have any chance of keeping them once they're identified as being quality players.

that is the million dollar question! i just really hope we dont see the same attitude from the players who want to leave/ are leaving at the end of the season, as we did with coley and robinson! But like a widnes fan said on here not long ago, if we are struggling to keep hold of our good youngsters being a superleague side, how are the likes of widnes and leigh etc going to keep theres and build a team to compete to get back into superleague? Think it's something that the rfl need to look into really, whether they'd be able to do anything about it is another matter i suppose!

| Not a great deal you can do though. You can't go around restricting where players can go as it's unreasonable and unethical. Turner has been good this year and I don't think its too much of a surprise that his performances, although not bad, have dipped over the last few weeks.
Off-field shenanigans have a way of manifesting themselves in players performances.
I don't have any problem with Turner going, it's his career and a short one at that. I do feel slightly underwhelmed by the Club in not targeting our young talent as the bedrock of our Clubs future. I realise we don't have the finances like other Clubs, but the biggest deals should be going to long-term prospects that will keep the Club heading in the right direction.
It kinda highlights the huge gamble in paying big money for overseas players that rarely perform to the price tag. Taking up valuable resources that could be aimed at keeping other Superleague wolves from the door.

Centre / stand-off / Loose forward and is quite a decent goal kicker.

| i hope he turns down the offer of playing away from the willows and continues to development here, remember Tim Hartley had the world at his feet at the willows and went to "further his career" at Quinns?, probably now a train driver or somthing now.
If he stays and continues to develop he will be world class in 3 years time, move to Hull they wont give him the time to develop and just ship in a big money Ozzie replacement if he doesnt set the world on fire.
Any players who do leave or set up a transfer before the season finished should be paid up on their contract released early (but not given permisison to play until next season) to allow us to give others players a chance at this level.
To keep any player in our team who isnt going to be here next season would be suicidal as Salford city reds would not benefit from their development in any way shape or form.
No relegation now, so no worries.

My point still stands, if he had stayed with us who knows how good he would have been, instead he took a massive gamble imo joining a side who is was on par with us at the best of times and slid into the 2nd Division.
Garen Casey was another example i think when he joined us from wakefield he was a wonderchild, kicking goals for fun, making tries, joined us and went down the pan.
Seriously how many players have left salford and gone on to better things? to play at a higher level consistanly Oconnor, Naylor, Mcavoy? thats about it.
I Dont think Huddesfield. wakefield and Bradford with the likes of Hodgson, Robinson, finnigan and Korki ect should be seen as a step up from us, they are the same imo at this level, Coley at wigan might be the exception to the rule but its only because of the name he joined, and he's a bit part player.
Playing for salford should be seen as a pinicle of any career for many thats why its important performances should show that, think many players dont realise until its gone how good it was. Even the likes of Hull and Wire after all the spin and marketing they are the same as us (apart from Hull winning the challenge cup recently)
Should be a lession to anyone thinking about leaving any club now there is no relegation, if you want to improve and further your career at the very top level (ie Leeds, Saints) make sure you get the same kind of game time, if you have a guarentee you'll play every week for your whole contract (which you will have at salford becase your that good).

Unfortunately it's all about coin and we can't really begrudge players moving on to earn a higher wage. While I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, as a fan it would make me feel a bit better if we at least heard something from the club to indicate that we're actually fighting to keep these players as it just seems like we're lying down and letting people move on.
What annoys me is that should these players go, the franchise system is obviously not working the way it was supposed to when it was brought in. It was supposed to promote a level playing field and promote youth development across the board at all clubs. Instead it will be shown as being a case of same old with getting out your cheque book being the best way of getting quality youngsters rather than actually developing it yourself (not the case with all clubs might I add).

I understand and agree with your point.
However, one thing to consider...
It's the first season of the franchise mode and we are a newly "promoted" side that has been around for quite some time. (Meaning we are not a set-up, money made available, full-of Aussies Welsh team. No offence.) If we had performed the way the rest of League, pundits, Newspapers, Commentators etc said we would, nobody would be sniffing around our youngsters. Unfortunately, our youngsters have peaked early meaning that we don't have the advantage of them re-signing after a poor but inevitably dire season. (The season that everyone predicted) We don't yet have the financial clout to counter-offer other clubs yet as we still for all intents and purposes are operating this year as if it was just a regular promotion season.
I'm as disappointed as the next man to see our talent slowly stripped-away, but if you really think about it, we have become a victim of our own success to a certain degree.
We really can't win either way...
