I drove past the stadium yesterday, looks to be coming along pretty well. When is it due to be finished?

Strange looking thing at the moment with one big stand and 3 small ones.

Early December (9th?) has been given as a hand over date.

Is that for the stadium alone or the whole development?

From the artist's impression posted by CM, the fans appear to be quite close to the action, which is a good thing, and although your corners are still open, the roofs are low on three of the stands which will really help with atmosphere.

Are you all excited about it? Or do you anticipate missing the old place?

im excited,but will only get really excited if we are playing super league in there as i still dont think our super league status is 100% secure!hence why i havent yet purchased a season ticket in advance for the place!

I'd say Salford will be pretty safe from losing your place in super league.

Quins, cas, wildcats and the welsh have more to worry about IMO.

It seems the rumours about Sale also playing at Barton could be true after all. Apparently Steve Diamond from Sale mentioned it on ESPN sports in an interview with Austin Healey.(See forum link below) I know some people are for and some are against it but from a financial aspect it doesn't surprise me if Man U reserves aren't going to be playing there. I agree that the stadium needs to be shared to spread the costs but I do not trust Sale Sharks in the slightest bit after what they have done to Stockport County. I work in Stockport and the things I hear are very bad.

I think it would be much better for you if you got one of City or Utds reserves playing there and let Swinton use it on alternate weekends to you in the summer.

If Blackburn Rovers can use the LSV effectively from such a distance could you not get Bolton or Wigan reserves in there?

Don't Sale (through Brian Kennedy) have control of Stockport's ground? The situation would be different at the Salford stadium, where control would lie with the City of Salford.

I still wouldn't want sale there, though. Union seems to destroy pitches. Look at Headingley in the early part of the rugby season. The union team had ruined it.

Unless of course Brian Kennedy attempts to purchase the ground off the joint partnership. Could Salford Council afford not to have a large amount of cash ( with profit) go into their bank account?

Does it make any sense for any club to own their own ground these days? Having read about the financial situation at Sale I doubt very much they would be in a position to make such a huge purchase like this. It stacks for the Council and Peel to build the stadium because:

1. They own the land.
2. The retail on the site would help fund the stadium cost.

A stadium isn't like a residential of commercial property that can be purchased as an investment and sold for a profit. Who would want to buy a stadium? It's an extremely limited market isn't it.

There has been a rumour that Kennedys money is drying up. Is this what you're referring to redshed?

I was referring to the article in the Telegraph that said Sale were currently losing 1.5m a year, with shareholders supporting these losses.

Maybe the sort of person who's prepared to pi[size=5.[/sizess away £1.5million+ per year on a rugby union club.

Granted it is a limited market [inow[/i. Owning ones home does, however, future proof a club; and we can't predict what will happen in ten years time.

It's all academic in our case because Salford didn't really have a say in the matter, what with the joint venture doubtlessly saving the project.

Why not buy the stadium? The joint venture company could make a profit and maybe still keep the retail units and inherent rents. Sale own the ground and can then use it for concerts etc.... they have a nice clean shiney new stadium to encourage union loving corporate hospitality.

I think the one thing which could go in our favour is that Sale coming onboard may make the 2nd and 3rd phase be built sooner rather than later.

I'd be ok with Sale being there as long as we are safe and the primary tenant. And the stadium was kept by the council as a community stadium.

Would the council be legally alound to sell the ground? pretty sure part of the remit for allowing it in the first place would have been that it is council owned and is for the community.
Also what would Kennedy do with Edgeley Park? as let's be honest anyone who knows Stockport knows that the area around the ground isn't the best and they won'd get much for it in the way of new builds.
