| I didn't, and don't, expect us to be any higher than next to bottom to be honest and expected a long hard season, where I hoped that some things may improve. After watching these past two performances and half of the game against Celtic Crusaders I fear the worst already. IMHO there is something very wrong within the team again, whether this is some hangover from Florida or they are disgruntled with the Coach I don't know. Unlike several contibuters on the site I don't know any of the players or people who work at the club and don't particularly need or want to BUT, as another mug-punter of over 40 years watching misery (okay excluding the chunk in the late 60s / early 70s ) I feel at the end of my tether with what is going on at Salford. It has happened so many times before that it is becoming boring. This scenario already, after three dismal games, reminds me of the end of the Harrison era when several players forgot how to play or tried when it suited them. I hate being seen as another whinger but I expect much more from supposed professional athletes - PRIDE and COMMITMENT for starters against Quins! And yes, like the mug-punter I know I am, I will, dutifully be there again expecting things to somehow be different or even worthwhile. How the hell we expect new fans to pay to watch this week in, week out, especially in a time of economic meltdown, is beyond me.
Yours sincerely,
Very disillusioned of the North West

| Its not the Salford i fell in love all them years ago with but times change, people change, players change, coaches change, you have to adapt the way to feel best to get the most of out of it for you, if that means looking at the bigger picture in life then so be it.
Salford is a massive part of everyones lives cut it out and you become another person IMO'"
Wow how philosophical, and how true. I cannot imagine not going to watch Salford, and I also take their performances less personally these days. There was a time when it would take me several days to get over a defeat, now I am realistic about what we are as a club.
Our players are average, they occasionally come up with the goods, but more often than not, they will get beat by a better side.
Our support is woeful, so is our ground. If the stadium gets built, things may change, but who knows????
I look at the cost of my season ticket in two ways:-
Firstly it's my club, i'm loyal, and supporting Salford is a life sentence.
Secondly, rugby league is the best sport in the world, and I watch it every week.

| Fine sentiment behind your thoughts and whilst I understand exactly what you are saying here is another piece of Philosophy for you to ponder -
"It is not, and can not, ever, be an option to accept mediocrity as the norm and, further, be grateful for being given the opportunity to embrace it".

| I know what you mean SteRed, you need to aim to be the greatest, i used to watch other teams like Wire and Castleford and wish my Salford who were dropping the ball, bombing great opportunities to win matches, players trying but not just being good enough and move on as a club phycologically were as good as they were.
They played good rugby, defended as well and for a brief period we got to that level and i though, this could be somthin special here then *bang*, one duff season, bit of infightin, wrong players yada yaday ended up in relegation
We bounced back up but this team that is being rebuilt and is a few years away (as long as we keep them together) to get anywhere near the levels we have it, its not their fault its a young team who need experience and will be great but not right now.
I always thought id never turn into one of them " if only " salford fans but i did unfortunately if we had built on our play off season who knows were we'd be now
Perhaps that relegaton could be seen in the same context as our challege cup semi defeat i dunno.

| I fear that what was happening by the end of the Harrison era (player power and lack of respect) has done an inordinate amount of damage to us as a club and, as you rightly say, may turn out to be similar to the famed semi defeat. FWIW I don't expect us to be World-beaters, I don't actually expect us to finish much higher than bottom this year but I'll be damned if I sit here dredging up crass excuses for poor play and, what looks to me like poor team spirit and lack of enthusiasm.
As I have said, somewhere else, I will still be there on Friday hoping that we can get into first gear. It is still, and always will be, the club I love and support but what is happening is not acceptable to me personally. I accept that we all see it differently but my opinion is as valid as anyone elses who pays to watch.

But thats just salford innit, i wouldnt be amazed if we blow Quins out of the water in the 1st 15 minutes race into 20-0 and spend the rest of the game "hanging on" like we did against Celtic instead of pounding them into the ground like the top clubs do.
when given a inch they take a mile, we get the tape measure out.

Yes there was a smoke bomb/flare whatever you want to call it thrown straight after richie owen scored his second try under the sticks.
This being the reason the goal kick was delayed, i was in the WRE and saw it land on the pitch.
I can assure you it did happen.

I think it's the fact that people seemingly don't know what a flare is that's the main issue in the 'argument'.

Items such as the one thrown on the pitch are commonly refered to as 'smoke flares' or 'smoke bombs', so i can see why the pedantry is needed to be honest, we all know the majority of salford fans would not have anything to do with such an act, its just a few mindless idiots, probably the same ones that have thrown coins at us in the past.
