| Anyone going to the Scotland v USA game at our place? Just went to buy some tickes and for some reason the West Stand doesn't appear to be open. Anyone know why?

| Just a quick plug....the Vulcan in Walkden has every game of the world cup being shown, no matter what else is on. Beer is cheapish as well, £2.45 for bitter, £2.65 for lager. IM not connected to them in any way other than a customer btw, but gaz is ex Eccles.

| Will Salford host the smallest crowd of the tournament?
I've seen loads about how other host towns have embraced and pushed their game - anyone know what's going on in Salford (other than the offer to season ticket holders)?

I would have thought so. I don't know when the bidding process was to host each game, but I doubt our previous management were too bothered hence why we've got arguably the least favourable game. I have no reservations that had Marwan and his team been in charge at the time we'd have had the Kiwi's or Australia playing a game here.

Won't it have been the Stadium Management Company that put the bid in, rather than Salford? Seeing as it's their ground to rent out, not ours.

I think it was the respective towns/cities (with the help of their professional clubs) who put the bids together. I can't imagine relations were too great between our club and the council at the time which probably lead to a p*ss poor bid.

I think the reports of 5K tickets already sold for USA v Cook Islands at Bristol show that, given the affordable tickets, if the event is properly publicised that you can generate interest even from non-RL supporters. The only publicity I've seen about the game at Salford from the council has been based on Twitter.
I too fear that we will end up with the lowest crowd of the tournament (although I believe ticket sales have been slow in Limerick so that may yet save us). Shame really as if the event had been pushed to the max by the council, SMC etc & could've attracted say an 8K crowd it would have been a real shot in the arm for the campaign to attract new support to Salford.

| I think we may be being a little premature in painting the doom and gloom picture.
The Americans play their games at Bristol and then Wrexham. They will have their camp near to Bristol and can therefore push things as only Americans can.( Apologies for any perceived racism )
The Scots have 2 games in Cumbria, and have local players of interest gaining representative honours. They have their camp in Cumbria and their coach has been at a Cumbrian club. They can,if they so desire, have training days with the local population and do their own stuff to increase participation and attendance - and probably have.
The attendance at Rochdale last night would have been helped by the large Fijian population in the town and their popularity.
A big sales pitch for Scotland v America too soon may have been counter-productive.
Apart from stressing, does anyone have any ideas on how the attendance can be boosted ?

Is there any visible presence in the city for the game? I can only speak for what I've seen in person in Cardiff, Warrington and Rochdale, and what I've seen clips of for Bristol, but promotion in those areas has included roadside adverts, lamp-post banners in key areas, and adverts on buses .
In Salford I've seen a pop-up banner in the stadium reception but that's it. Let's just hope that lots of people go through stadium reception. Can we rely on Salford fans to turn out in good numbers?

A quick search has brought up a mention of a "host city bidding process", so you may well be right. Either way, it has been a bit of a shambles.

The other thing that's been noticeable at other places is the wider community involvement. Stuff like the kids singing and dancing on the pitch, local schools adopting nations and learning about the competing nations. I've no idea if any of this is going on to be honest so it's just comment rather than a criticism, does anyone know of any initiatives?

| Im surprised not many games are being played down south, with London being the capital you would of thought that they would try and attract people from rugby yawnion to league games and show them how superior our code is.
It could also give help to Broncos who I think will be struggling to get 2k season tickets.

Well, my son, along with his team mates, were mascots for the Fiji side last night. I think all the mascots were drawn from some of the local junior amateur sides in Rochdale but they all had to pay for tickets and all of them had to have an adult accompanying them. I would hope that the local RL junior sides in Salford get the chance to do that too and their parents go along too. Funnily enough though, my son goes to a Rochdale school and he hasn't mentioned anything about the school doing some learning around the World Cup.
Had my son not been a mascot, I'd probably not have bothered going last night to be honest as I'm going to the double header semi's at Wembley. I'm really glad that I did go last night, cracking game, cracking atmosphere and possibly the fullest I've seen Spotland since we were there in the Northern Rail Cup Final. I might try and do the Scotland-USA match now too.

| Went to renew season tickets on Saturday and on the back of it purchase 5 tickets for the World Cup game at SCS only to be told that the stadium (or main reception at least) could not access tickets for that standalone fixture.
I was told the offer for discounted tickets was only available if I had purchased the England fixtures as well which was patently too late.
Not having a go at the person who dealt with my enquiry as she was very helpful but I think it might point to the small attendance everyone fears....
I was advised that you could pay on the day which is the route I shall take.

| Scotland V Tonga at Workington sold now sold out according to the RLWC web site.
The only World Cup activity we have had in Cadishead & Irlam is the offer of ticket package for England V Ireland , the quarter final at Wigan and The final at Old Trafford to the pupils of Irlam & Cadishead Collage. Cadishead Rhinps U12s also had a training session with members of the Australian squad along with Folly Lane and St Peters.
There been nothing promoting the Scotland V USA game as of yet. Local schools are back from half term next week. I`m just hoping we will get some activity from both squads around Salford in the lead up to the game.

| Pretty shocking the lack of promotion for the game when you consider that the HQ for the world cup organisers is in the city.
