We, the Undersigned demand those whom currently Own and Manage The Salford City Reds RLFC to urgently arrange and hold a public meeting to discuss and answer questions that may be proposed by your supporters ,Customers and potential investors.
The Supporters of this once Great club have no option find the lack of transparency from Salford City Reds Rugby League Football Club to be unsatisfactory especially as in the Most recent MatchDay Programme the Chairman of our club John Wilkinson talked about improving communication with the supporters. The fans of this Rugby League football club have as always remained Loyal and very supportive ,not only in the last year or so but during times when the club needed us the most. I believe the Supporters of our club should always be at the forefront of the clubs minds when decisions are made.
This unsatisfactory position of the Club being served a Winding Up Notice has cemented the viewpoint that We deserve Answers from those in a position of power .
As always the Salford faithful supports the long term ambition of the Chairman and the board but we respectfully request our voices are heard.
We believe this can only be achieved by Holding a Supporters Meeting with representatives from Salford City Reds to discuss our present situation and our future sustainability.
It is our hope that the Club will respect this request and that the supporters embrace any forthcoming changes and see them as a positive step forward.
We would finally like to wish the Phil Veivers, his coaching staff and all the players The Best of Luck for the impending Pre season and urge the fans to get behind the playing squad as they have done every season.
Please get behind this and sign the Petition here www.gopetition.com/petitions/sav ... -1873.html
Together We Will have our voices heard.

| Very harsh comment... as a Bradford fan I hope you get answers you need and that your club is honest with all of you fans. Without the fans meetings we held we wouldnt have raised £500,000 ( not that it did us much good ) but it's a way for fans to pull together and see if together you can do anything to help your club.
Best of luck

No not a question of apathy, more an antipathy to futile gestures!
The Bradford fan hit the nail on the head - call a meeting to actually do something - signing that petition is quite meaningless

That's just the case, how many Salford fans would actually put money into a trust fund or something similar to run the club? For one we are in the middle of a recession which has been going on for nearly 5 years here in the North West, so people don't have the money and secondly how many think that paying £180 a year or getting freebies is the best way of supporting Salford, as you know any public meeting would degenerate into a slanging match, I admire you in putting forward this petition and hope you get something out of it other than despair because you are completely right about the apathy it is a Salford thing, too many people just can't be bothered and won't somebody else to pay for their entertainment.

Without trying to force the club to hear our voice how can we request our questions are answered? It's clear that all other avenues have proved futile , eg Emails, Letters to the chairman, Comments left on Facebook

| CavendishStreet I've read your blog and I understand how passionate you are about the club - but in someone's words (I can't remember who) "Politics is the art of the possible", and clearly there has been an intensely political situation surrounding the management and funding of SCR over the last few years which has now come to a head.
The reasons for my response to your post are:
1: Will the current management respond to such a call? I think you've already answered that
2: If the board were stood in front of the fans now what could they say that would satisfy what we all want?
No one has a magic wand to fix this, unless of course Peel Holdings do want to throw a bucketful of cash at us and make us the richest club in SL (as I've just seen posted over on the Wakefield board), painful though it may be I think we just have to sit it out and wait and see....

As for taking this particular OP seriously, I suggest you read their post history and perhaps you'll see why I'm struggling.

Ok then , Obviously you are the only respectable "Supporter" that posts on this forum, TBH I can't be ar*ed to trawl through your posts so that I can attain an opinion about you. Unless your an employee at the club which I doubt you are because I do believe I had a decent relationship with the McNally Brothers.
Can you honestly say our club has been managed in a professional and Healthy Manner for the past 30 years?

| Would very much hope that the club now do the honorable thing and make a full public statement.
I'm still of the opinion that investment is being sorted but do think that fans nerves, anger and in some cases stupidity need to be addressed and allayed if there is some level of disclosure as to what exactly is happening.
I'd hope that the club go public with this directly rather than letting some incompetent hack from the MEN get the story and make a hash of the facts.

| Bradford fans were told the same year after year.. we asked at our fans forum before the 2012 season if we were in trouble & were told financially we were good.
We held our fans meeting at a local hotel, who gave us the room for free providing we had at least 25 in attendance.. nearly 1000 of us packed into the room that night and local press were invited. Three of our fans set up the meeting and using social networking spread the news that a meeting would be held.
Unfortunately we were already in the hands of administrators at this point but because so many fans were there & the press were there it was the first time we had questions answered openly and honestly.
Im not sure a petition as such is the way forward, but meetings worked for us. Fans need to stick together and see what they can do to help.. Most of all though try and keep an open mind, our previous board lied through their teeth and ended up with £500,000 of our hard earned cash. Donating money IMO isnt the way forward unless you know the true extent of the problem.
I hope it doesnt get to the point where you'd need to do any of the above... but if you did, im sure Bradford fans would offer advice and let you know what we went through.

big problem with Peel Holdings, they don't need the council anymore, they have just got the nod on the Barton power station despite Trafford Council saying no and a massive public against campaign, Big Government says yes.

Barton power station? thought it was a rail/port complex? Let's face it between us and the new Irlam A57 bypass there nothing much other than Macro and Boysnope GC, the entire area could be redeveloped and think it would be a boom for the area and provide much needed employment. The required improvement to the road and rail links in the area would also be a much needed improvement on what currently hinders the stadium.

They've managed it better than you, or anyone else for that matter. I don't know how easy or difficult it is to run a RL club with the club's paltry finances, so I'm not best positioned to criticise. Appears to me though, they've managed it better than Swinton, Oldham, Gateshead, Halifax, Workington, Paris, Sheffield, Widnes, Wakefield, Bradford and more.

| Agree with the setiment of this petition, the silence is deafening from Salford.
As for the other comments about the apathy amongst Salford supporters, this is undoubtedly true but people are overlooking the underlying reasons for this and talking as if it's some inbuilt Salfordian thing that has always been there. This is not the case.
A total breakdown of trust has occured between the supporters and Salford over a number of years meaning it has become incredibly difficult to retain existing fans, let alone attract the new ones we desperately need. Probably starting with the relegation of 2007, the turgid McRae years which followed that cost us dearly in so many ways, and continuing into what at best could be described as the 'difficulties' of the move to Barton and the groundshare with Sale and all that has entailed have all added to the growing frustration of supporters. In all honesty, it has been a terrible five years with few highlights. Probably, the worst 5 year period since the early '80s. The lean years from the 80s to 2007 were always broken up with some real highlights that kept fans 'believing' to borrow a phrase from The Optimist. 'Proper' promotions, Lancashire Cup Finals, beating Wigan in the cup, getting into Super League, the 'good season' under Harrison when it looked as if we were going places kept fans onside, if not happy.
All the things I've mentioned added to the off field performance of the club, the poorness of which was somewhat ignored at The Wilows but has been starkly brought to the fore since we moved to Barton has added to people's apathy. No communication, promises that are never kept, constant excuses for everything that goes wrong, players/coaches in open revolt at the way the club is run, Dave Tarry treating any suggestions by fans for improving the club with outright hostility amongst many, many other things have left even the most hardened fans disillusioned.
Contrast this with Castleford last week, they call a grown-up meeting with the fans to say we are in trouble and we need to work together to get through this. 600 people rocked up and probably left worried but more supportive of their club than ever. Castleford, Wakefield, Bradford Northern will all still be here in 10 years because they feel part of their clubs, are valued and work to support and improve it. We might not be here in 10 days the way things are going. This current Salford problem is seemingly so far down the track all we can do now is wait to see how things pan out. We have been kept largely in the dark barring a few hollow words from Wilky in his programme notes and at the presentation night. Much of what has been discussed is taken from rumours, whispers and Neil Barker!
I don't want this appear to be a Loyal Fan style tearjerking post and I'm not suggesting I want hugs off the directors everytime I walk past them, far from it, in fact I'd happily sacrifice the thousands of times I (and thousands of others) have been gladhanded by Wilky for the thought that the club is making the most of its scant resources, is well lead and is valuing the fans we can't afford to lose. Many of the people being bored by this post, will be watching Salford until they are dead (if the club outlives them) but there are many others who won't and we can't afford to lose many more of them if we are to make it through this current crisis and beyond.
The club need to say something, anything about what is happening at present.

Thanks for the reply, Hands up many of,my previous posts have been submitted over a period of time when I haven't been of sound mind and naively been shooting from the hip due to personal experiences of working for a club I have supported all my life. Sometimes when I read your replies you appear to come across as an antagonist . I know and understand we have a certain element of numpties supporting us but the one common denominator is we ALL want Salford RLFC to thrive and prosper .
David Tarry in his 27 year tenure must shoulder a lot of the blame for some appealing managerial decisions , as must John Wilkinson and Steve Simms. We have ambled through our Super League journey . Maybe ,we quite simply are not Good enough On or Off the field to take a place in the elite league.
In regards to the 3000 Mugs comment, that was play on words due to it being an unofficial nickname for our band of followers in the 1930's.
Anybody that knows me outside of this forum should know that my passion for this club is honest and true. Sometimes it can be misconstrued as arrogance and a lot of the time I may come across as Bi Polar but that is what supporting this club has reduced me too

| To be perfectly honest, unless you are privy to the ins and outs behind the scenes at our Club, coming on a forum or FB making assumptions and generally knee-jerking all over the place is just pointless. I don't know the goings-on behind the scenes so what I think would be just a guess at best. No point in me jumping to a conclusion based on 10% of the information.
Talk of supporters meetings/voices/petitions etc etc just seems a little bit like jumping the gun a little. Wait for more information before venting your spleens.
The only thing I think we need atm is communication between Club and fans. Very much what GT says above.

Many of the people being bored by this post, will be watching Salford until they are dead (if the club outlives them) but there are many others who won't and we can't afford to lose many more of them if we are to make it through this current crisis and beyond.
The club need to say something, anything about what is happening at present.'"
Cheers Walshy!

I couldn't agree more, I think in the main we are all infected with the disease that is Salford City Reds, think most of us to varying degrees would give our right arm to to have fully functioning and thriving club but think we ALL deserve the club to just come out and say what the current situation is, are we getting the new investment and above all are we in danger of not commencing the 2013 season.
Clarification from the club at this point could well dictate the following the club has next season and as a result the revenue stream the club is so desperate for to make ends meet.

| Think Walshy sums up the feelings of the average fan.
When we were relegated the cahirman spoke to a small number of fans telling them exactly where the club was and how much money was needed. This led to a meeting in the Willows Restaurant and the setting up of Forever Reds.
Over the last 10 years the relationship has changed, maybe the chairman has had enough proping up the club. Maybe fans want more in this "instant age "of facebook and twitter.
We can all think of things the club could do better and recruitment off field is as important as on field. Look at the positions at the club, how many are family and friends ratyher than the best for the job?
This is the first time in I don't know how many years we are seriously considering not buying our season tickets.
