Quote="Bigpev"looking at the VAT bill for the sale of the lease it appears the RFL paid Bradford £1.5m of which £250k was VAT so a handy £1.25m into the coffers, so where did this money go? Can the RFL afford £1.5m at this time?'"
Didn't the RFL buy Odsal off Bradford Council, not Bradford Bulls?
My understanding from reading the mass of posts on the Bradford site, is that although the council own the stadium, Bradford had a long term lease to operate there and that was deemed to have a commercial value. It was that lease that was used as security for the bank for their operating overdraft and which they sold to the RFL without either side taking into account the consequences!!
I know we whinge on about the poor management at SCR but that bit of financial wizardry just takes the biscuit. Add to it that they've gone to their fans and got half a million quid from them which presumably is now down the pan it's a pretty sorry mess
What one Bradford fan wrote in January when the lease was soldm thinking that 10k of tickets at average of £80 each bringing in £800k will pay the rent and full salary cap.

Way it was
Land Owned by Bradford Council
Lease Owned by Bulls (for a long time)
Rent paid by Bulls to Council – small amount
“Predators” circling the Bulls with a view to purchase them, merge with BCFC and move to VP thus freeing up VALUABLE real estate at Odsal - how much did M&S pay for golf club not 400 yards away..........
2 things for me in this deal –
1.) Who drafted the original lease? Mr Caisley per chance? Was there any trapdoors in the lease so that the council could sell Odsal if a certain amount was offered or similar clauses?
2.) The Bulls (read the majority shareholders) were considering one of these offers to buy the club and all the rumpus it involved just to realise their capital from the Bulls? Would make good business sense for a shareholder...
Hood by approaching the RFL has secured the lease at Odsal for rugby purposes – the RFL are alot more capable of resisting takeovers than the Bulls
I think this is a super bit of business by Hood (he is an accountant!) for the Bulls, Council (they have a governing body paying their rent, not a sports team which could disappear owing them...) and the RFL
I also don't believe we were in financial trouble and needed a loan - the season ticket sales were over 10k again and that money has been paid to the club and we are still spending the full cap - doesn't sound like a team in dire straights in terms of cash and cashflow......”
