Hmmm in no danger, what a reassuring and rational comment; let's see, 10cms of snow forecast, -9 at the stadium at 7.30am this morning, -6/-7 for a solid 8 hours last night which no covers can cope with, weather warnings in place and sporting events falling by the wayside every minute - if you need to know how good covers are long term then read the below - these are state of the art covers put down a week ago to keep the frost out .......
[iSaturday's meeting at Sandown has been abandoned due to a frozen track.
Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper inspected the track at 8am and was forced to call off the meeting, which was due to feature Champion Hurdle hopeful Binocular amongst others.
Cooper and his team had covered the track earlier in the week to give the meeting every chance of going ahead.
However, the covers failed to beat a series of cold nights and Cooper admitted it had not been too tough a decision to call off the fixture.
He said: "It's obviously disappointing but I think, to be fair, we probably knew it was going to be an uphill battle at the close of play yesterday.
"It dropped to minus 4C here overnight, but the wind chill has also dropped, so in a way it's not really any worse than it was yesterday.
"We are frozen in places, despite the covers being down, and it was a relatively straightforward decision.
"We're expecting to go up to 2C today but it won't be enough. From where were are now, we need to be hitting 5C or 6C in this time scale[/i
Could maybe affect the travelling Castleford masses maybe?? Not exactly what we need for the first home game of the new season at our 'iconic' stadium is it? Here's hoping...
I've been driving on the M62 between Cas and Leeds about 30 mins ago. The roads are clear and well treated etc, and there only been about 1/2" of snow fall here so far in this neck of the woods. The temperature is hovering around -1 to 0C, so fingers crossed I would imagine that the majority of those who were planning to travel to the game, will still do so!
Lets hope both teams put on a good performance so that there is plenty to cheer and shout about to keep us all warm!!
