| That has been my view for years.
Now an informed celebrity named Michael Stephenson has confirmed my view.
No doubt that French teenager Fouad Yaha just might equal and perhaps even eclipse the record of William "Billy" Boston before his career is over.

| Lol. I know you're a troll but Yaha won't even score half the amount of tries that Boston did.

| Joking aside, he looks a good prospect.
I have no doubt however that he would score a hatful more with a better centre than Duport inside him. I like Duport but he is not and never will be a wingers centre.

The opinion of a World Cup winner who has played the game at the highest level?
But sure, tell me your opinions. Being an armchair fan who's credentials are "went training once with my local amateur team", will hold more weight than stevos

I was thinking more along the lines of the opinion of someone so far out of touch with the modern game it's embarrassing.
It'd be like having the same opinion as someone who calls himself "King James" and has some form of messiah complex.

| I like Jeans posts insightful and always challenging the status quo of rugby league..quite enjoyed the game as well.catalans aren't always the easiest team to watch but tonight's game was entertaining and widnes possibly deserved a bit more from the game.this weekends games have been great viewing.will see what tomorrow brings?

It is more than a feeling. As another poster pointed out Yaha would do better with a better centre partner, even though Vincent Duport did give him a "Matt Gidley special" for one of his tries.
He would do even better playing alongside the dazzling Krisnan Inu, but Inu tends to play on the right side of the field and Yaha on the left.

So you agree that a team should always "chip over the top" or "go for the 1 pointer" even when the match situation clearly shows that to be a pointless idea???

That same World Cup winner who played the game at the highest level, also thinks that Jordan Turner's a good shout for MOS.

I think Stevo gets a bit too excited when a player scores a hat trick, Yaha didn't have any one to beat for those tries. A good winger will create something from individual play, Yaha is nowhere as good as Solomona, Thompson, Broughton, Carney, Manfredi at the moment for tackle busts and clean breaks.
Billy Boston scorer of 570 tries, most of those will be from passing plays, in our modern game there a lot more speculative kick plays, I very much doubt Yaha will get within 50% of Boston's record, he would have to score 40 try's a season for the next 14 years.

| Just thought I'd add, the key for Yaha is some form of consistency. He looks to me at least, like he could be the best French outside back that Catalan produce so far, but they have had a lot of false starts in that department, with the likes of Cardace, Gigot, Escare and even Duport starting well and then struggling/being found out. Yaha needs to work hard to make sure same doesn't happen to him.

From memory I think we had a very similar thread from the OP with Escare.

I just saw a perspective image of Boston running at Escare on a very muddy pitch, flat packed and it took a groundsman to find him.

Eclipse 479 tries for one team? Would you like a wager? If yes, I also have a bridge I would like to sell you.

Of course not, there's only one Billy Boston.
To many people it's just a name, some old bloke who used to be good back in the day.
But in reality if Yaha had played opposite Boston, he would have requested to be moved to the other wing.

| Cobblers. Billy Boston was a product of his era. Players across the board are bigger and stronger now than they've ever been. Eric Grothe was the most powerful winger of his time - he'd be 2-3 stone lighter than today's bigger wingers. And if yesterday's heroes bulked up, how effective would they be? Would Boston even be a back? He certainly wouldn't be in RL.

Boston did bulk up, he was already over 15 stone when he signed pro, Wigan put more muscle on him, despite his legendary scoring feats the opposition feared him for his crash tackling technique. Fast track him into the start of the Super League Era you are probably looking something similar to Vainkolo.

Quite a few older fans I've spoken to who saw Boston play likened him to Vainikolo - but better obviously.

If the Catalan Lad is the Next Billy Boston , then ex London Winger Mason Caton Brown must be the next Tom van Vollenhoven with his 8 tries in 5 games .
Boston racked up 483
van Vollenhoven 392
most SL top scorers struggle to make it to 20 -30 a season so he's have to keep going to Steve Menzies age . good luck to him
BTW if the next Derek ' Rocky Turner appears , don't tell Shaun Wane ...
