| Cas:
Shenton
Eden
Holmes
Milner
Massey
Trueman (via Bradford - he'll play 3 seasons for Cas under the age of 21 so counts as Cas homegrown)
Maher (Cumbrian born, came through Cas academy)
Clare
Gill
Douglas
Watts
Turner
+ O'Neill - yet to make senior debut
Elsewhere in Super League:
Westerman
Clark
Thompson
Lunt
Arundel
Huby
Plus Championship:
Ryan Brierley
Matty Dawson
Shaun Pick
John Davies
Dominic Brambani
Alex Rowe
Brad Day
Mike Knowles
Richard Lepori
Ben Johnston
Brandon Moore
Dan Fleming
And League 1:
Conor Fitzsimmons
Jack Lee
Richie Owen
Jordan Howden
Brad England
Charlie Martin
Ash Robson
Whether all of these made their first-team debuts for Cas either in cup competitions or in the league I don't know but majority have definitely played at some point for Cas. These are all off the teamsheets as of the last few weekends so I may have missed some too. Not a bad number!

I hate to bring facts into it, but a percentage of academy funding is based on player production, and wakefield were third in the rankings last year behind saints and Wigan. Hope that helps

On what timeframe is that measured and what criteria is in place? Do they have to play a minimum number of games for example and is it just the previous season before or is it over a 5 year period for example?
E.g. could a side just throw in 10 academy kids in one meaningless game towards the back end and claim they have the best despite it being just one game and meaning nothing in terms of long-term development?

It’s over a number of seasons and tracks every player who has been through your scholarship and academy programs and where they eventually end up

| The lists ought to be around younger players to be meaningful. Leeds can count the likes of Ryan Hall, Kallum Watkins (I know he's from elsewhere but he's been first team since 17), Ablett, Singleton, Jones-Buchanan etc, but most of the ones included in lists have been around for years.
If anything Leeds' record in recent years has been really poor for a club our size - helping to contribute to our current poor situation. In terms of younger players we have Walker, Golding, Handley (although he's in his 5th year of first team), Holroyd, Lilley, Newman, Oleddzki and Smith who have played this year. You'd have to say of that lot its too early to tell on Holroyd, but Walker, Oledzki and Smith are the only ones so far to show real promise in the first team. Not saying others won't make it, but given that we're supposed to be one of the biggest clubs, its hardly a good record of late.
Even in such a dreadful season as this we've only given one debut, to Holroyd. Our Academy ought to have 3/4 players every year who are able to play at least a couple of games in the first team. From all accounts we're going back to focus much more on junior development, but there have been far too many gaps to even warrant calling it a production line (or similar cliche). As an example I think Luke Gale was the last decent half back our Academy produced, and he's 30.

Catalans threw in a load of kids last week.
Nothing stopping a side from giving players experience towards the back end of the season with nothing to play. HTH.

Thanks for replying and answering this.
So on this point, how do they determine who falls into whose scholarship/academy? If for example, someone starts on Wakefield Scholarship but leaves at 18 and joins say the Leeds academy and players 2 seasons there, before going to say Huddersfield at the age of 20 where he makes his senior debut, who actually gets the credit?

I think the credit for this would be split but I’m not entirely sure

| Not so long ago I remember the question being raised of whether we should take academies away from the clubs and centralize them as regional academies. The argument was that some big clubs could cherry pick the best whilst other academies acted as a seive. The suggestion was that the likes of Wigan and Leeds benefited at the expense of other clubs. Although a fair point it does not take into account the money and effort put into the game by the more successful clubs. providers
Like the parent club, success at academy level depends on being able to attract and hold onto the best. This often includes being able to offer a good standard of education and life training as well through links with outside providers. That way even players who do not make the grade have something to fall back on. All of this takes time and money. I certainly do not begrudge any club the chance to have first pick because without our best academies the whole system would need complete reorganisation but as others have suggested it is more complex than the original question suggests.

Lomax
Swift
Percival
Makinson
Grace
Smith
Richardson
Thompson
Roby
Lees
Ashworth
Wilkin (I know but played academy first)
Knowles
I don’t think any other Team could get close to that level of academy trained quality for a starting XIII.

You've just been told Wakefield were third last year after Wigan ans Saints but above Leeds and Cas by the clubs CEO - so what bit don't you get.
Agreed it's a snapshot of just one 12 month period however I'd love to know where you get 'daylight' comment from, where's your proof for the las recorded 12 month period?
