| Quote ="Roofs"Again I think that's unfair - they had developed an incredible fanbase (for a non-top flight club), and a marketing strategy that clubs like Bradford would take huge inspiration from.
IMO Keighley could certainly have been as big a club as say Cas and Huddersfield. And they would have benefitted Yorkshire and Lancashire clubs (with their away support) more then Quins have tbf.'"
surely most of the sudden increase in the fan base would have come from Bradford ? or am I talking out of my rear end again ?

Their "fans" quickly went back to Bradford when "Bull Mania" started too.

Yes, because it's on their doorstep. They wouldn't have to travel over 3hrs for every away game, like we do.

| Quote ="Dave Lister"So you are saying that Keighley were sustainable because the majority of their fanbase was made up of kids? Right.'"
What I meant was that a lot of kids want to watch SL rugby. This is evidence at Rovers. Before SL our fanbase was (I would say) predominately adult, but since promotion to SL you now see a lot of young people wearing our shirts and supporting the club. If Keighley had been granted an SL place they would have built on the big fanbase that they had in the second tier, and not lost a lot of kids to the Bradford bandwaggon.
Put it this way, they brought around 2000 to Craven Park for a Friday night game. Quins on a Sunday afternoon bring about 1/10 that.

In that case then they would have been more valuable to SL - if they took 2000 to Bradford, Leeds, Cas, Huddersfield and Wakefield (at say Ā£12 each on average) that's Ā£24,000 they would have contributed to the income of each club.

Because part of the terms of Sky's advent of the Super League was to have a London club in it. What would be the point of Sky/RFL creating a new Super League, if it was just gonna be full of M62 clubs? They could have just shown the league that was there beforehand.

That isn't exclusive to Hull KR, the same could be said for any club in this era.
(There is no way I am having that Keighley took 2000 to Hull on a Friday night unless a non-Hull KR supporter verifies this claim )

That isn't value to SL is it then, its value to a teams coffers for a tiny proportion of their overall income during the season.

2,000 is an unrealistic figure. The tiniest amount of income that would bring to the clubs, is nothing compared to the loss of sponsors and TV income that would be lost to the game, if it was solely M62.

It was Good Friday (traditionally a good day for crowds)
Keighley needed to win to make sure of the Second Division title (IIRC)
Honestly, they filled a large part of our East Stand, like I said there's no reason for me to lie about it.

| Stunned.....a RL paper paints London RL in a positive light and the HKA Massive are all over it like a rash
Some highlights so far;
Quote ="Roofs"FFS, haven't they been given enough already?!!

Quote ="Roofs"Just simply never going to work there unfortunately, never has been an RL city and never will be.'"
Unlike East Hull eh...teeming with young local lads that team of yours.
Quote ="JB Down Under"I'd take the million quid they give Quins a year and spend it on Jnr and amateur RL in the whole area. '"
Where would this million come from? No London club in SL...no uncle rupert paying pocket money...
Quote ="jonny the leyther"Either way I think where they are playing now and naming themselves Harlequins is and has been a mistake'"
why? Because our attendances are worse than they were as the Broncos? They aren't! Because we went bust as the Broncos, but are debt free as Quins RL? Because as the Broncos we were not regularly mistaken for an american football team....
There is no evidence that where we are, what we are called or who we ground share with makes any difference to the success of the club.
Failure to market itself on the other hand is patently obvious
Quote ="Katie.Smithson"London has had hundreds of thousands of kids playing at school level for 20+ years (if you believe the people on here). By the law of averages, surely by now they would have unearthed a james roby, or Kyle eastmond, or a lomaskell and not just some posh guy with a long name?'"
and the other bloke who ran in 4 tries in an England shirt....we had a player in the England 4 nations Squad...hot many did HKA or Wakey have...the've been around a lot longer than us......Oh, by the way Katie.....50 posts and you still believe what you read on these boards...you'll fit in nicely

to be fair tho' not many Londoners know much about the Quins ! the publicity & marketing strategies seem abysmal according to my mates in the south
