i wish the league desperadoes would stop making weak excuses for the nrl... fact is the sport is really not that popular anymore. friday night's games were played in very good conditions with no rain.
consider how many real fans turn out for soccer games in the middle of winter when it's snowing or raining heavily... in australia these rugby league 'fans' are always looking for an excuse not to go which indicates the game is not a good spectator sport.

I watched both games and there wasn't a drop of rain in sight. Good job English fans are more hardy or they'd have never got more than 500 people at games when they played in winter!

i went today and there was over 11,000 and it was pelting down with rain, well done to those who attended the wet and windy brooky.

Attendances mean nothing in the greater scheme of things.....TV money is what pays the players wages (with a few bob thrown in by local government) and so long as Mr Murdoch keeps ploughing millions in, then the greatest game will survive. I would suspect that as people were told to stay home due to the storms, TV figures would have been good....keeping advertisers happy, keeping Mr Murdoch happy and therefore keeping the NRL/ARL happy.
Having never been to Sydney I can't comment on the softness of the fans there, but I will say that I have met some pretty hardy Sydneysiders over the years.......and that was just the women

a very well supported club can bring in $10mill+ in memberships, merchandise,food etc hardly chicken feed and a damn site more than any TV contract will pay. It's time NRL clubs woke up to the fact their greatest asset and income source is their fans, not Murdoch or pokie machines.
