| Isn't the Moonie Massive supposed to boycotting SPOTY and refusing to pay their TV licences whilst swearing allegiance to afterthought Thursday night Sky Sports schedules catering for an increasingly irrelevant localised sport?

No amount of including pub teams is going to make RL any more relevant in terms of SPOTY or the british public's perception of RL.

| Quote ="gutterfax"Lizzy Yarnold. Gold Medal at the winter OLYMPICS..only the 10th ever gold for GB. BBC covers the Olympics.
Max Whitlock. Multi medal winning gymnast, including Commonwealth, WORLD Champs and European games..all covered by the BBC
Adam Peaty. Commonwealth golds, 4 European Golds and a WORLD record.
Jo Pavey. Oldest ever Gold medal winner at the EUROPEAN championships
Rory McIlroy. WORLDS best golfer who won 2 of the 4 biggest tournaments in the WORLD.
Lewis Hamilton. WORLD CHAMPION
Kelly Gallagher & Charlotte Evans. First ever British winners of Gold at the WINTER PARALYMPICS
Carl Froch: WORLD CHAMPION
Charlotte Dujardin: The first British equestrian rider to be OLYMPIC, WORLD AND EUROPEAN champion at the same time.
Gareth Bale: The most expensive football player in the WORLD.
Of all of the above, only Gareth Bale should consider himself fortunate to be nominated and I doubt he'd be there at all if it weren't for Wales qualifiers (were they even shown on the BBC?)......the rest are all at the top of their sports globally, sports that are contended or played by more than 3 nations at the top level.
The Olympics, World and European Athletics, PGA tour, Formula one, Paralympics and Commonwealth games are all competitions involving dozens of nationalities, represented by people born in the countries they represent.
Sam Burgess played no international sport in 2014 and domestically, he played in a foreign competition not shown on the BBC. The Rugby league that is shown on the BBC contains either challenge cup games featuring teams from a single motorway corridor and a token French club, or a highlights show featuring teams from a single motorway corridor and a token French club.....
What next? Fat Nigel for Prime Minister?'"
Agree with your list. For me the bottom 2 are torch and bale. Can't see why everyone is so upset there is no Sam on the list,

I agree about Burgess. With the exceptions of Bale (world record transfer fee) and Giggs (felt more of a lifetime achievement award his 2009 win) then team sports players don't really get nominated based solely on club/county success. What cricketers or RU players have been nominated without playing at international level?

Not mine either. I enjoy my F1 and wanted Hamilton to win the world title but in reality the title was a two horse race from the start between him and Rosberg. The latter whilst a very good driver has never been thought of as a really special talent and had no experience of a title decider.

My main issue with any Motorsport really is although no doubt very talented it really does matter what equipment you have more so than other sports, and as you say this was a two horse race

| Mal Meninga won the BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year Award in 1990.
That was way back when proper tours took place and international RL and the sport had some credibility.
Alas, today it has no credibility whatsoever.
Any announcement on dates and venues for the Kiwi series yet?
Thought not.

| Until the 2014-15 football fixtures are announced, I wouldn't expect there to be any announcement on dates for the Kiwi tour given ground availability will need to be taken into account.
But I suspect you know that already.

| So did anyone watch? How did RL do?
I'm guessing the entire SL season and 4 Nations summarised in 30 seconds by that old Welsh RU player, and 5 seconds on Sam during the RU section.

To be fair they did that with all sports. All time and focus nowadays is dedicated to the 10 nominees and what else happened in sport apart from what those 10 did is rushed through. Wouldn't be so bad but the nominees just give the same old "wouldn't be here without the support of others, it's about hardwork, etc" interviews

From memory we had Hall (I think) scoring in the cup final, the Flower punch on the ground and a Sts try from the grand final for RL. To be fair though, its become less a review of the year, as it used to be, and more of a "fawning over various people" event.
And there's far too much Eddie sodding Butler too

| For some reason they linked hero Johnny Wilkinson's one code career with two code Sam Burgess' move from South Sydney to Bath. Presenter (Gabby Logan) said England fans would hope "Slammin' Sam" is a great success in RU.
The whole thing is a farce - Hamilton wins - tax exile, he doesn't participate in a sport and his year could not compare with the golfer - BUT - his driving attracts a lot of keen followers who vote! To be fair, even he seemed to admit he didn't deserve it. Big anti-climax - you could see that everyone wanted to golfer to win (who himself looked ed off). It's about time the stupid show was retired.

He was probably still scarred from when they showed the clip of him at the Ryder Cup holding a champagne bottle and the cork popping off on its own and then have a gurning fawning Gary Linekar asking him "I hope you don't pop your cork early on a regular basis!"

Bradley Wiggins ?
Certainly a personality, albeit in one of the "less popular" sports and he's a RL fan
