| Quote ="RagingBull"Yet again Warrington seem to be struggling to find thier identity. Should the primary colour for their home shirt be white, yellow or blue?
Seems as though year on year the club has no clue.
In saying that, this years is very clean. One of the best ones released by any of the clubs so far'"
If you go back to the 50s, you also see photos of primrose and blue hoops, and white with a primrose and blue stripe across the middle, so alternating between them is nothing new really.
They need to keep the shirts rotating nowadays as a simple money grab like most clubs - unfortunately people don't buy so many shirts if each year's is just a slight update from the last, I've been told.

Wigan do a 3 year cycle as it were.
Traditional
Retro
Experimental
2021 is an Experimental year, 2022 will be traditional and sell bucketloads for the 150th anniversary of the club.

Come on mate it's a terrible move, 20 years out of date idea that was already 20 years out of date then.
When the NRL did it 40 years ago many of those teams already had some connection with the monikers they adopted.
Canterbury-Bankstown, was known as the Berries amongst others but a number of people had started referring to them as the doggies pre-branding.
Manly-Warringah, not hard to see the connection with Sea Eagles
Eastern Suburbs, took up the Rooster in homage to the post-war French touring team.
Western Suburbs, they also had a few pet names but the maggies became magpies due mainly to their shirt colours. Ditto Balmain. Cronulla's seashore is Shark territory etc etc
True there can't have been many Vikings who reached Canberra and Titans are in short supply worldwide, however by the time these clubs arrived club monikers in the Aussie game were well established - there is an undeniable logic to it - in a way there simply isn't in British RL.
Where does the Rhino come into Leeds rich history? Is Bradford famous for Bulls? Don't even get me started of 'Warriors', if ever a club devalued a famous name that was it, criminal, And these are the more successful ones but they don't hold up to much scrutiny.
It had some novelty in 1995, not now. Unless you are a new club or as in the case of Cas and Warrington it suits your colours or your name, I don't get it.
Trinity and Northern were two unique and dignified names, Wildcats and Bulls, give me a break. Saints and Hull FC and Hull KR do just fine with their traditional names. Trinity since reverting have seen a three-fold increase in merchandise sales and no longer face the indignity of being called the pussies.
There is nothing wrong with Halifax RLFC and there never was. Whatever is wrong at Halifax it will not be sorted by an infantile piece of junk marketing. If I were you I'd seriously question those in charge. Hull FC and Wakefield Trinity have proved that you can stay traditional and drop this silly nonsense without any detriment, in fact, quite the opposite.
Hats off to Saints, the one club who saw the utter folly from the start, showed great dignity and respect for their history and the wishes of their fans, not doing bad are they for a club that is not connected to an animal or spurious mythical creature.

i dunno, there's a reason why 97 away isn't on there.
i personally still wear the 2014( i think) world club series shirt (2nd row fly emirates shirt) as i'm a fan of the hoops, and weve only dabbled in SL at doing that, and i've never really been happy with their attempts other than that one, and this years.
Oh, 2012 away, the bensons for beds scarlet and black, we sold a ton of those shirts,i managed to get one of the limited cotton proper rugby jersey version thats came out about 3 months after the normal replicas, i still get people jealous of that at matches*, its glorious
*not currently, obvs.

The wolf was on the club badge pre-Super League (before we became 'Warrington Wolves')
Obviously, it helps that it's alliterative too.
Also, the wolf is actually the symbol of some Chester landed gentry, so arguably isn't really 'Warrington'. Although Warrington has (as far as I know) always been in the Diocese of Chester (for religious organisation purposes), even when the town was in the county of Lancashire.

| Bradford has a boar on the City's crest. Coincidentally, many of you will have admired it and have been heard to say "What a bore" after the 798th consecutive post about us getting into SL.

| Cas Tigers have had various monikers previously like "the Glass-blowers" but have always been identified as the Tigers pre-SL. This photo is from Wembley in either 1969 or 1970:-

I actually knew that just forgot, the colours made it obvious and it's a name that has some history, I'm ok with it.
The ones I hate with a passion are Wigan Warriors, Leeds Rhino's and Bradford Bulls - 3 of our most prestigious clubs reduced to cartoon monikers that have absolutely no history or relevance. I know many will attempt to defend them but deep down I don't think they really believe it.
I ask you this, have any football teams ever seriously attempted this and I'm talking all 90 odd clubs not just the big ones who'd never dream of such sacrilege? To me this is the preserve of wannabe sports who need to get noticed. Please don't tell me it works in America, we are not American!
If i were running the SL the first thing I'd do is call the CEO's in and tell them to restore some dignity. Wigan RLFC, Leeds RLFC, Bradford Northern RLFC...Just like Manchester United FC, Liverpool FC and Chelsea FC. Certainly not Chelsea Super Buns, Liverpool Bin Dippers or Manchester Mank Thunder Dragons.

Castleford well known for its glassmaking industry.
I think St Helens actually had a greater variety of industry than just glass (Beechams, for example)

Instead he called them in and advised them to "modernise" their club crests and now we have the monstrosities of Salford, Wigan and Huddersfield. No doubt it's behind this change from Halifax too.

Not saying I agree or disagree with this as both views have good points. I think in the 90's it was a much needed rebrand and what we especially did with the Bulls and Keighley did with the Cougars brand was brilliant for the sport at the time. Yes it's Americanized to an extent or is it more Australianised? They had teams like Balmain Tigers, Illawarra Steelers, North Sydney Bears, Western Suburb Magpies (tried not including the big ones here either) in the 1980's? For us personally, I think Northern isn't a brand you can take nationally or internationally, but the Bulls is one you can.
Also isn't Manchester United technically a rebrand as they were Newton Heath! (Just having a laugh here).
