What sport has a higher domestic audience than football and RL? Hardly anyone watches County cricket, and its often banded about round here that Super League has higher audiences than Union.

Seriously though, we should be looking at getting a nationwide household name in as a sponsor. Wouldn't mind Gillette sponsoring it at all.

No doubt though that the RFL will accept the first offer coming in, which will probably be Probiz.

I'm also a bit unsure about Probiz. I'm an auditor by trade so work in the field- and yet only heard of them because they started sponsoring RL. Weird.

....is this another example of Quality over quantity and the RFL under-selling itself? If the TV figures are better and the fan bases are pretty much thesame, then why in gods name is union getting 4 times the cash?

Gillette, whilst a great long term partner are not the best "payers" in the world...they picked up naming rights for the 4 nations at a bargain price because nobody else was interested......I can see a brewer getting on board.....FMCG's are the ones who will still be earning in a recession.

Let's hope the RFL address the last bit of this story. The BBC don't show the lebvel of highlights that ITV do.....and if you're in any part of the UK other than the M62 you have to get up at 3am to watch them. ESPN, Sky and ITV sounds a lot better to a sponsor than SKY and BBC North

So, a game trying to rid itself of its regional pastime tag will embrace a regional/scottish drink as it's sponsor.....wasn't there any interest from the Scottish Islands or Greenland

A change of sponsor means a change of name for our premier competition, so this is an ideal time to distance our game from RU. As I've said before if that lot want to monopolise the word 'Rugby' then let them. We should start referring to ourselves as RFL.

The RFL (Sponsor) Super League rolls off the tongue nicely too.

National it should be European at the very least saying, we have a french team in the league. So far all RFL sponsors means nothing to the French.

And seeing how Super League is shown across Europe and the Middle East.

Are you aware of how big the Irn Bru brand is and how big it would be to get a major drinks maker on board?

You are aware of how much Barrs wish to target the Northern English market aren't you? And how much RFL would love to tap into the "rugby" market that the SRU have abandoned.

Also agree about the TV deal. Hopefully we can get ITV4 showing the highlights or something. The SLS is a joke, how can people in Grimsby and Newcastle get to see the highlights, but Londoners and Welsh can't?? Showing the highlights at 3am is also pointless, as they won't have shown the Sunday games either and the coverage is amateur at best. Seen a bit of the Premierhsip Highlights on ITV4 (sorry was bored) and it's a great highlights package, the RFL could at least try and contact them.

Like say, Tetley? irn Bru is MASSIVE in Scotland........it is a minor player across the UK in general. It outsells Coke in Scotland...that makes it unique........but it doesn't register south of the border.



Hmm...no, I am not party to the campaign plans of Barrs....I was in 2006 when I did some instore media for them, but not now. As for the abandoned SRU fans.......let's face it, SRFU is about as strong as its Italian counterpart.....it is the sickest Union of the 6.......as for the RFL tapping into that market.....Magic Weekend bombed north of the border....and I have seen or heard no evidence that the RFL are doing anything in Scotland...at all.

I have no wish to start a bun fight with you BG....but like Aussie NRL fans who think their game is the best in the universe and gets more fans than all other games combined, Irn Bru is essentially a local brand and just because you live where it is popular doesn't make it popular in England.

It is a local brand with a lot of money behind it and a desire to move into the English market, makes it a good fit for the RFL.
