I assume 80 minutes of late hits on kickers is also NRL rules, and flops, and interference
If they dont want to apply basic rules why bother with highly complcated ones?

| Nobody complaining about Widdop's massively forward pass at the play-the-ball just before the "try"? Bloody useless, bent refs...

| Arguing over millimetres.
If Ryan Hall had put his hand 3 inches to the right, it'd have been a try. He didn't. He, at best, caught it with his little finger.
Technically, that would make it a try, although I still think the video evidence isn't conclusive. However, morally, is that a try? I'd say not.
Whatever, Engand lost. If they're going to win, they need to play better. Simple as that.

| I think you're all forgetting that we weren't playing by the International rules book this morning, but the Australian one, whereby Australian refs are used to referee Australian games, and the laws of the game are applied much more strictly to the opposition.
The try decision was ridiculous, especially considering the awarding of the Jennings try.
Dubious desicions throughout the game, particularly in the second half. Matty Smith getting smashed each time, players flopping and holding down, Burgess having the ball stripped, Hall playing at the ball following Walker's stray pass.

downward pressure?.....glancing blow?...the game is open to debate, but the video was "supposed" to kill that off

Aye, I think that's more how I feel, rather than outraged. A sarcastic, 'aye well done lads' aimed at their celebrating fans was what crossed my mind, rather than angry indignation. Years of failure and falling expectation take the edge off too of course. For the players too, I think - I reckon the Aussies would have been flying in to celebrate if it were they other way, while ours trot back for the restart, anticipating the worst. Justifiably as it turned out, but maybe self-fulfillingly too?
The Aussies will do whatever it takes to win, and that can be a positive but when you're falling back on picking officials that looks like a weakness, more than a strength. Still, they won and to the extent they'll think about it or accept it looks a bit ropey, I'm sure they'll feel the ends justified the means.

| it was a 50/50 call that went the Australian way...I would rather have debate/discussion about a refs bad call than pages on pages about a video refs bad call?...time to end the video farce for me.A ref can be excused as its in real time, the video "should" be perfect

Stop being so level-headed, there’s no place for comments like that .
If the Aussies had been given that try there would have been uproar on here .
Good game that, we’re slowly getting closer, now a number of our lot are playing in the NRL. The introduction of Hunt gave them an extra spark, but their forwards were immense in the second half, they just seemed to give that extra effort which wins big games
.

Exactly my point, to time a ' tackle ' so accuratly for a full 80 minutes and be termed as ' already committed' shows real quality
Or just a poor officiating performance

| Enough b*tching and moaning. Enough. We have to be strong. Looking at the tournament so far it's anyone's. Beat NZ next week by 10 or more and we're in the final, probably against australia.
You didn't really think we would end our drought without beating australia in the final, the winner takes all game? It's our destiny.

| Unbelievable . How can anyone try and justify that it wasn't a try or a fifty fifty call.
There is clear evidence that the ball is on the ground with Ryan Halls finger on it. The hand comes down fr above the ball therefore it must have ha downward pressure. Simple laws of physics. There is no argent. Full stop.
Saying that the English didn't celebrate? WTF? Does the video ref go on how convincing the celebration is - is that part of the International laws.
Saying it was a rising ball. Has there been even 1% evidence that the ball was rising.
The facts are:
100% evidence hall has his hand on the ball.
100% evidence the ball was on the floor.
100% wvidence that halls hand comes down onto the ball to apply pressure.
100% Aussies VR
100% Aussie ref.
100% No try given.
Go figure that.

| Do people not realise that the Era of Australian dominance in Rugby League is over. Ageing world stars are getting replaced by players of inferior quality and all of a sudden its taken an Australian Ref in the 2nd half with blinkers on one side to allow Australia to get into the game. The amount of late hits and the deliberate hit on Graham's leg by Bird and they got away with it. Never-mind the offside rule but the ref as consistent on that one though.
The England side is a fairly young team with players who will get better. The Superstarts of the NRL are a lot better but they are getting old and are getting replaced by players that are not that much better than those in Super League.

| Time for Australian RL to hang it's collective head in shame. We have video refs for just that reason. Just because a player, flying through the air, is not sure it does not make the case against the Australian coach will never say "we should have lost," and it is not expected of him. Anyone else watching that replay would have to say that it was a try. The video ref has just done what he thought was expected of him, which was produce the "right result". I would never expect anything else. Remember that in Australian sport winning is everything and that tomorrow the papers will record an Australian win, probably setting up an Australia v New Zealand final (I expect Australia to pull the points difference around even if we beat NZ). The NFL officials will look a little sheepish whilst all the time thinking FU.

Sheens was talking about the moment, Smith was talking about after it had been watched ad-nauseum on video.
If Hall thought he'd scored he would have been jumping around like a lunatic.
But I'm an Aussie, so I'm sure you all think I bought into the conspiracy too.

The explanation was that he 'touched it while it was rising'. Therefore the officials acknowledge that Hall touched the ball.
What the pictures (and the replays, for those of us without green & gold glasses) clearly show is that explanation is utterly, completely wrong.
Hall touches the ball, while the ball is firmly on the ground. In anyone's rulebook, that is a try. Marginal or not. And we've seen plenty of marginal tries given in the NRL this year.
So therefore the officials are either incompetent or corrupt. Either way they come out of it stinking.
