The Glasshoughton station? As far as I can tell that is only serviced by trains on the Leeds/Knottingley route. Only once an hour as well (once every two hours on a Sunday).
A while back I looked at getting to Xscape by public transport and it was pretty clear the only sensible way was to drive.

That is correct. But the point is even if you get to Cas station - which is served by those four stations - there is also a regular bus service nearby.
However, the point is, even if you're coming from sides over the other side of the Pennines and Hull, you're still going to have to change at Leeds anyway on the train.
I wouldn't be surprised to see more train routes opened to Glasshoughton anyway.

It just doesn't stack up.
It seems that Xscape gets 50% of total visits to tourist attraction in the whole of Yorkshire.
The figures are detailed in this report )including the 3.25 million!

With 9k visitors per day wouldn't an extra 10k for the rugby put undue pressure on the infrastructure?

If the current infrastructure wasn't going to be developed, yes. But the new complex will have two motorway junctions servicing it, and non-road transport links.
Also, these concerns were raised, and solutions agreed in the outline planning permission process - that process involved the council, highways agency and local residents, so I'm pretty sure traffic isn't going to be an issue

N0! There is a new road to be built back to the recently completed "Coalfield Link Road" at Cutsyke. The majority of matchday traffic will be directed to/from the stadium from Jct 31 (Normanton) [unot[/u Jct 32 (Xscape) There is parking for 1200 cars at the stadium in addition to the Xscape overflow all within walking distance of Xscap eand the retail centre.

| Apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I can't be bothered ploughing through previous pages, but...
...why not have a 'Wakefield' SL team [whatever name consisting of WTW, CT, & Featherstone, with the 3 clubs having feeder teams in the Championship?
OK, I know it won't happen & I wouldn't like the idea of a West Yorkshire team of us & Fax [didn't like our earlier 'merger' either!, but times are difficult.

| Just merge and be done with it. This pettiness is almost as bad as the Hull teams. (I would suggest they merge too but both are generally competitive.)

| Playing out of Glasshoughton....not for me thanks.
Have any of the Cas fans who keep going on about Xscape being the 2nd most popular visitor attraction got any up to date stats?
From the way I see it, those results were form 2005 just a year or two after it opened. Something new like that is obviously going to attract large numbers, I'd be interested to see stats from the last year or two to see if it still number 2....
Cheers.

| Do any Wakefield/Castleford supporters actually want this to happen? Or is this just an idea that supporters of other clubs think is so simple and logical, whereas in reality it'll never ever ever ever ever happen?

I think most Cas and fans are welcoming of the idea....in their respective stadium
Cas fans want Wakefield to move to Glasshoughton, but the majority of Wakey fans don't.

Really? I'm amazed. Nobody minds 100+ years of history and rivalry being thrown away? Fair play if so, I just can't imagine it being such a clear cut decision.

No chance mate, merger isnt an option, so a groundshare where ever it is will result in the death of a club.

| Just short of 9000 fans for the local derby isn't convincing me that either club is well loved by the vast majority of Wakefield MBC area people!!!
I mean 1000's were locked out weren't they!
The council DO NOT have to fork out and if the majority say no and have a go at their local councillors then where are the clubs then?
If the opportunity is not grasped now, then join the rest in the co-op leagues because there will be no place for either in sooooperdoooooper league, history or no history!

Nah a merger would be a disaster for the sport, you would take 3 teams that get around 15k attendances between them and replace them with a team that would be very lucky to get 5k and would fold within a few years doing untold damage to the games greatest nursery.

| At some point, somebody needs to ask where these clubs are looking to be in 10-20 years time. They seem to have grasped the importance of stadia (now it has been shoved down their throat by the RFL) but not what comes next.
We seem to have two clubs chasing a new stadium ONLY to suffice the RFLs criteria and ignoring the huge benefits it would provide.
Some of the parochialism on this thread is exactly what we are trying to get out of the game, there is a massive amount of nose-cutting to spite faces. Wakefield fans advocating moving to another city, in another county rather than sharing with Cas because the Glasshoughton project was 'a Cas idea' is ridiculous.
It seems incredibly short sighted to me from the Wakefield fans. To fulfil their potential they need to attract fans from the entire district, the Glasshoughton project gives THEM the opportunity to reach out, it should be the Castleford fans worrying about them moving in. Wakefield need to position themselves to represent the entire district, Castleford cant do that.
Sharing will likely lead to a merger, but there seems to be no alternative put forward, no realistic idea of how we can have two sustainable clubs in the district, just two sets of fans butting heads in an attempt to out-last the other.
If Cas and Wakefield could harness the energy of their fans in fighting in each other, and focus it on building a top quality club/s then they can really make a contribution.
