Let's see now... yes, I'm pretty sure this game is not being shown on national TV. The CC fixtures being shown on national TV are Catalans V Hull and Warrington V Huddersfield.

A former prestigious cup competition reduced to...

1) Playing a couple of rounds two weeks apart in Apr/May.
2) Playing the next round two months later! That'll keep the fans focused and interested in it. NOT!
3) Flogging tickets for next to nothing in the hope of generating an attendance.
4) Haphazard nature and ludicrous timing of the draws.
5) Flogging some of the TV rights to Sky who then choose not to televise those games.

Incorrect, it's live on Sky.

Sky is an exclusive, subscription-based sports channel. It is therefore not available to the national audience because not everyone subscribes to Sky, and those that do subscribe to Sky don't necessarily subscribe to it's sports channels.

Whether it fits your own agenda (or not), they will not significantly increase their crowds just because they are playing London in the cup.
It makes good business sense to reduce ticket prices or even give them away for this fixture.
Let's face it, this is a "bonus" game for Sheffield and if, by encouraging some new faces to come along, they manage to increase their weekly gates then, job done !

Sheffield need to build a fan base if they are to make a push for Super League. Here it is for them, so why blame them for pushing for a big attendance and hopefully introduce or bring people back to rugby league in the Sheffield area? Eagles control the ticket prices, they can do as they choose, but it seems the morons on here would prefer to see them make no effort and get a crowd of 500 in a huge athletics stadium so they can point and laugh.

That's not the same as being available on national tv to a national audience. Around 50 to 100k sky sports subscribers watching on pay tv to a restrictive and exclusive paying audience does not equate to a few million watching on a free-to-air national tv station which is fully and freely available to a national audience.

Championship crowds are diminishing rapidly, and until we bring back P&R (along with a revival of the UK economy) they will continue to do so. The crowd for the previous round was advertised as 782 (it was more than that, but that's shared gates for you) with around two thirds from Fax (I didn't count, but a ratio of 2 to 1 looked about right).

Well done to Sheffield for trying to generate some interest, but floggings and dead horses spring to mind. We need some P&R battles to help get folk excited outside of the playoff games.

Timing of the round is largely irrelevant. In years gone by they were too close together because of peripheral competitions like the JPS and county cups. Actually spreading it out can provide more focus. Admittedly 2 months between round is perhaps too long, but having them too close together means condencing the down time for teams knocked out in early round.

Soccer a FA cup has random times and locations for its draw. Come to think of it, I can think of only the Champions league which has a fixed time for its draws. Yep, good point that you made.

Reducing prices. Don't see a problem. Or are you one of these who thinks Super League is the be all and end all. Super League, that competition in which the play off round are so well attended by the bigger clubs

As far as I know, Sky TV can be viewed anywhere in the British Isles. By definition it's going to be aired nationally. Or would you prefer the good old days of Scrumdown or RL Action, on at close to midnight by a regional broadcastor.

I got taken to watch the football with my dad when I was a teenager, and they ran a "kids for a quid" deal.
