If you read Smith's comments he said that it wasn't a match squad, it was a group of players he wants to work with and he wants to get to know each other. You can guess from that it'll form the backbone to future England match squads.

Obviously there are no wingers in there and Smith mentioned the above named players are not guaranteed a place in the actual match squads.

I count 3 backs (excluding halfbacks), one of whom has a longish-term injury and 6 props. So its not a matchday 17 type of squad.

Take 4 to the world cup out of a 23man squad and then name 6 in a 17 man elite squad

Good player but not one of the best, he's poor in attack but very solid in defence. Lee Smith or Wellens in ahead of him. Shows the level we are in the backs if we play him imo, Billy Slater vs Shaun Briscoe..

I would question him too, I thought JJB might get a look in or Lee Smith provided he is staying in SL.

Lynch or Crabtree would have got my vote ahead of him.

Lynch instead of Maurie is a good choice. I don't know how someone above tried saying TS is biased towards his team, we all know Morley & Westwood are class acts.

Westwood did OK in the World Cup, so probably deserves to be in. Morley shouldnt be in.

No Pryce - the RFL cant ban him from SL, but they can suspend him from the national setup.

I'd agree with this he seems to have toned down the daft agression, without affecting his play. I'd have him at saints for a couple of years
