This is really starting to sound Like Harlequins RL Marketing Department have got themselves a winter gig in Australia for the off-season


4 days to go and only now are the club members of NRL Teams being offered discounted tickets.......these people should have been offered tickets when the renewed their ST's for next season.......and the ARL will only have themselves to blame if they get a poor crowd or if they get a decent crowd but it costs them a load to get it

thought it was quite nice to get an invite at all. Wasn't expected. Nor has everyone renewed their memberships.

Very nice to receive the invite I am sure, but it is pretty much "lastminute.com" marketing after "field of dreams" marketing didn't work.
21,000 capacity stadium......National Team Playing.....regular season over, loads of fans receptive to an offer, plenty of NRL clubs in the region, amateur players galore.......and yet they are struggling to sell tickets

As you said on another thread Gutters there are plenty of other things to do in Sydney than go to watch PNG...in Parra of all places

9 NRL clubs within spitting distance.......let's guestimate (dally M will have the exact figure) the average gate for each is 20,000 per game...that's 180,000 potential targets to sell 20,000 tickets....11% response to an invitation to watch their country would do it......or if it was 1 adult ticket + 2 free kids tickets you'd need 4%.
I accept..loads to do on a sunny sunday in sydney....but FFS......this is League and for some, the last decent league they will see for a few months.
As Dally M has said, they will get 7 figure viewing figures...the trick is to get the sydney viewers off their @rses and into the ground.

true. other sports can get good crowds for internationals in sydney. the problem is international RL has a low profile, the media have said its a joke and australia regularly destroy everyone else

over time we can get back the crowds we got in the 60s for tests of 40,000 - 60,000

What really gets me down about this is why can't we market International games.
In Australia the SOO and the GF always sells out and get's massive media coverage.
In Britain we can almost sell out the CC Final and thr GF with hardly any media coverage,it's just so frustrating.

The CC Final was sold out bar the circle of indifference which the RFL can't sell.

Given capacity is only around 20,500 based on the NRL attendances, not the 22,000 being suggested by some, it should be over 18,000 for Sunday and will be pretty full hopefully.

I recall the last Test played at Parramatta, when the capacity was higher, drew close to 28,000 (against a very, very weak French side in 1994).

1994 was about the lowest ebb the French international game got to with the caning at Beziers in Meninga's last Test. Coincidentally, there were the usual attempts to stop this rugby league international being played at that ground. Shock horror, the culprits were French union. Talk about repeat offenders.

I've just picked up a few more tickets and was told 12000 have been sold.

And you don't have to be a nrl season member to get the discount.

45 bucks to watch two games of international rugby league? A bargain.

anything over 15,000 for this game is brilliant.

i think this is the first serious test PNG has played in sydney for 30 years.

The Grand Final was almost sold out too bar a few seats dotted around. Its a reduced capacity for the rugby for some reason but there weren't many seats left, twas a reet squash on those small seats.
For some reason a lot turned up for the club wembley too, moreso than last year anyway so you never know, one day these prawn sandwich nobs might turn out in full.

anything over 16k would be a decent attendance this weekend. We only got 11,500+ last year against france iirc which I thought was a decent attendance. Just hope the Kumuls can make a show of it.

rare opportunity to see your int team in a meaningful Int game in your heartland city with no other RL distractions. And we are excited at getting over 15k (which will be considerably boosted ny PI'landers there to watch the first game). RL ambition knows no bounds!

I can not cop people that move to another country for a better opportunity or Lifestyle and then whinge about the people from that Country or go on about a lifestyle they condemned and left.
Its a bit like the USA love it or leave it, dont take the benefits and quality of lifestyle and then sh*t on whats around you.
