Its how you personnally see ' expansion ' ?
Even if the numbers dont increase, but all clubs get stronger , that is expansion, ideally you want both more clubs and all clubs to get stronger, but some dont either see it that way, or want it that way

Has that happened in Football or Rugby Union? or do clubs eventually find their level?

You are confusing growth and expansion for some strange reason.
All clubs getting bigger is growth,
More clubs in new areas is expansion.

| Starbugs problem is that his clubs ‘level’ is lower than he wants it to be, so growth and expansion means more bigger clubs and his clubs ‘level’ becomes relatively lower.
The converse is also true and as much as he pretends otherwise Starbug would be happier if the sport went backwards and all clubs were semi-pro playing in front of 2k fans because then his clubs level would be relatively higher.

Its growth for the club, expansion for the game.
The game being played in new areas is the game expanding,
the game being played more in the same areas is the game growing.

Currently football and RU doesnt have as many glass ceilings as RL, finding your level is not a problem , clubs being sustainable at a level is preferable, and all levels growing rather than shrinking is what the aim should be, however at the moment we have some levels doing the opposite of that

As Smokey has pointed out in the other thread, no club should be happy to remain where they currently are, and my club is no different to that , however it seems to me that some within the sport want certain clubs to remain weak, in an attempt to make newer, more locationally attractive clubs look stronger than they are

Or maybe they think a club like leigh is of an age where it should be able to stan on its own two feet.
I've seen nothing from the RFL which all but the paraniod nutcases could construe as disavantaging clubs like Leigh

| When RU "moved on" clubs fell by the wayside-Richmond a very traditional RU club close by to Quins, London Welsh & Scottish, West Hartlepool, Orrell etc but that doesnt seem to have held union back. There will always be winners and losers
It does look like Leigh are finished in the big time-The market in the local area is full and Leigh has been the casualty.

The fact is that the majority of Championship clubs are unlikely to progress too much beyond the level they are currently at, because they are based in areas where the potential for growth is extremely limited. For some reason, fans of these clubs seem to believe that they should warrant a disproportionate amount of effort and attention simply because they are otherwise unable to compete. Denying them that doesn't mean that anyone wants the clubs to remain weak. It just means that the clubs aren't big enough to compete at the top level in the modern era.

Completely agree, but it seems to me that you are talking clubs whereas i am actually discussing a whole competition , however if the fans of these clubs accept what you suggest they should do then they will ultimatley wither and die, if say Featherstone were to aquire a billionaire investor , would they be considered ' big ' enough?
All i actually want is all clubs in all competitions to be given the same respect, but when i look at what has so far been done to make the Championships ( both of them ) " Vibrant, worth winning in their own right competitions " , I dont see anything of genuine value, simple as

If Featherstone acquired a billionaire investor, they would clearly be able to compete at SL level simply because they would have the financial power to do so, they would be the richest club in the league. But the impact that a billionaire would have from investing in a club like Featherstone would be limited compared to what could be achieved elsewhere. It's a redundant argument anyway since I don't think there are too many billionaires or even potential investors in Featherstone.

So you agree, it is all about money , and why would it be limited? ,if they had the money, they could achieve whatever they wanted, but you are correct , why would anybody invest in a club that cannot be promoted?
