| Quote ="Ceejames"Wakey's problems cannot be put down to franchising.
It appears a bod wanting many hard pressed fans to put in £1K. It also appears this may be to pay old tax bills run up by the bod in previous years! The 'pay now or the club will go bust' approach is shocking.'"
Absolutely correct , it isn't the cause , however what it does do is exacerbate the problems , Wakey need financial support or they won't keep a licence , they won't get that support because it isn't guaranteed they will keep that licence even if they get the support , it has created a vicious circle
No club outside the top top tier will get the type of corporate support that the RFL are encouraging clubs to chase because there are no guarantees , the last one was that a club was guaranteed to go up , it is doubtful if that will be repeated , meaning any investor will be expected to put money into a club in the hope that a SL club goes bust to make a place available

| Can't see the money being raised from the fans, after all how many RL fans do you know with a £1000 to spare!!!
If they do raise the funds via the fans does that mean each fan is forever £1000 out of pocket or will they get it back if Wakey survive?
Are there any incentives at all for fans to part with their cash, free season ticket, shirt etc?

I would guess the incentive is having a team to watch as opposed to not having one.

Most of the incentives revolve around the proposed new stadium such as, first choice of seat, allowed in the shareholders bar, an exclusive look round the new stadium. All of these of course assume that the stadium will actually get built.

Correct, the only incentive/threat to Wakey fans is just that.
There are so many passionate fans in the game, but how many would be willing to stump up a grand, just to see their club still being in existence?
If the RFL were to give them the nod for the next licensing period (ala Crusaders) I’d probably be daft enough to do it, however, with the clubs prospects looking so dire, I just cannot justify that kind of cash.
But some of the bile spouted on here by people is just laughable, when their only worry is, their clubs replica shirt’s not to their liking – they haven’t got a clue.

reading between the lines this money is to payback sir rodney walker who had paid the taxman off when pp was first granted and at the time it was discribed has a "a mystery backer who had made a donation to pay the taxman" now the pp has been sent to a public enquiry it seems sir rodney wants is money back before the club goes bust which would meen he`d lose his donation, loan call it what you like.
i think the wakefield fans are caught between a rock and hard place and while wanting to help their club it looks pretty clear that buy raising the 500k it will only be delaying the inevatable.
imo those fans would be far better starting a fighting fund to try and buy the club if it goes into administration and although will probably meen nl rugby they will at least have control of their club rather than paying off debts for the current regime who have proved they are not capable of running the club correctly.
only my thoughts some will agree some wont the choice is simple for me go into adminstration and start again or give 1k and wave goodbye to your money and hope that the club find a buyer.

This is true. But this is a good thing. Leigh have never shown an ability to become an SL standard side. They are a small town, surrounded by bigger better clubs. and they have limited potential> Regardless of how much money is piled into them, and how much time they have in SL, there simply isnt the inherent potential for them to really take off and become one of the big SL clubs. This is a good thing about franchising. It stops clubs like Leigh wasting their money on a season in the sun with huge amounts of overseas players and allows them to build and contribute at a level which suits them. Even better, it allows for being wrong. If i am wrong about all this and Leigh with the right leadership and investment could become a quality SL club, then they can. When they get the right leadership and get the right investment and they take advantage of the inherent potential i dont believe they have, it will become obvious that Leigh should in SL and as such, they can be admitted.
And an investor doesnt need to wait until an SL club goes bust, they need to wait until they can contribute. It makes it much more attractive to an investor because they know what they need to do. They know where they need to be in their infrastructure and development to be an SL club. They know what they need to be achieving to be an SL club. They also know that they can set themselves up, move up and contribute.

A ludicrous offer because the new ground does not exist. and may never exist.
More ludicrous that the offer is being made by a bod who say they will leave. They cannot make a promise that binds a new bod. So Ted et al are just blowing smoke up the ar**s of the supporters. While they are at it the current bod shoud say that if the £500K is raised wakey will sign Inglis, Cameron Smith and benji Marshall after all they will not be accountable if it does not happen.
I do not believe that any wakey fans can fall for this ill thought out garbage.
ALSO
How many shares will people get for their £1000? Surely the wakey board are not suggesting that the 'nominal £1 share' is worth an actual £1. Share in a club on the brink and in debt should be worth a few pence. Will they 10 or 20 shares per £1?
Has this been spelled out in the shareholders letter?

Sadly yes. I don't think that means that the RFL will celebrate, but it will cut down the tin hat theories when the club that was clearly not coping gets dropped down a division.

That is something that worried me, but i guess there will need to be a huge amount more detail in the application pack.
If however Wakefield are selling the shares at their nominal value then I sincerely hope they dont get it and go bust. Not out of any Schadenfreude or rivalry, but to protect the potential investors. Sold at the nominal value the issue values Wakefield with a Market Cap of £10m. I would think people were being a little bit conned if they were charging more than about 5p per share.
But i know James Elston and would be very very surprised if he was involved in anything that dodgy (and believe me, to value it at the nominal value would be ridiculously dodgy)

They have a clear path back up anyway. A clearer path and one totally under their control. To pretend the opportunity to win the championship GF for promotion offers more stability than simply being accepted for having a well run business with the necessary infrastructure to support an SL club is nonsense.
The only investors who would be put off by franchising but attracted by P+R would be the glory fans, the local boys done ok looking to dump a couple of hundred thousand, maybe a mill, getting their face in the local paper being king for a day and having a season in the sun in SL.
Anybody with the funds or knowledge or skill to build a stable, sustainable SL club would want a franchise, not P+R

Correct.
However, you did not read it as such, hence the ridiculous reply about having points deducted for not winning a game, which made no sense to anyone as I never mentioned anything about on field performance. If you had understood from the start that that is what was meant (it was pretty obvious that that is what was meant), I doubt you would have made such a ludicrous reply.
I do find it ironic that you are insulting someone and suggesting they are simple for not reading something properly when the quote in question came about after you've not read something properly! Perhaps you should take your own advice there? (In fact you don't need to, as I have already gone through the trouble to explain it more simply for you so no need to ask another adult).
When you come out of defensive mode, you might be able to add to the topic more constructively. Until then, insulting people isn't getting anyone anywhere.

Do you really believe that if a Ken Davy type character were to save the day at the eleventh hour, the RFL would welcome him with open hands, and promise the club another three year licence?
I don’t personally, it just doesn’t fit with their blueprint for the game.
As for giving clubs a licence in perpetuity, what would happen if, say, Harlequins Sugar Daddy said, enough is enough, who would stump up the shortfall & for how long?

I would suggest you are wrong , no heartland club will find enough investement either from their normal fan base or a single type investor without a guarantee , you know this , the RFL know this , there is no guarantee , because there is no level they need to reach , so the only way it will happen is if a club currently IN SL fails financially
As for your ' rant ' about Leigh , that is just pathetic , it doesn't bother me because I dot want Leigh in a ' Licenced ' SL , you are correct , we are not strong enough to survive , let alone contribute to a SL with the current system

| Quote ="Wellsy13"I think you need to calm down and read what I actually wrote again.
You have misinterpreted what I have said.
[uBy "this", I am referring to going possibly going bust. If, say back in September after the last game of the regular season, news broke of Wakefield only having a month to obtain £0.5m to survive, the RFL would have been able to put in place contingency plans should they be unable to continue in SL, relinquish their license, and have enough time to seek a replacement.
If Wakefield go into administration, they will have points deducted. Do keep up[/u.
What on Earth are you getting your knickers in a twist about here?
What have Hull FC got to do with Wakefield? And what difference does it make who owns the stadium (especially if neither of the comparisons are the club in question!)? What is your agenda, here?
Just what have I said here to get a reaction deserving of that kind of abuse?
You have done, and well done to you.Not sure what that proves, or again why you've brought FC into a conversation about Wakefield, but that's for you to justify not me. It's not exactly been an achievement to beat FC over the last few years to be fair, so I wouldn't be taking too much pride from that! (Even though in the last 5 years you've only beaten us 4 times out of 13 games). We've had a crap team for a few years.
So, I'm not quite sure what it is you've read in my post that has upset you to spit out a load of bile like that, but I suggest you reread my post properly and have a think before attacking someone next time.'"
Quote ="Wellsy13"[uSo they're going to Championship 1 now? Yes, that announcement will really go down well with the fans!
You make it seem like it's easy for clubs to get by in the Championship. The reality is, if Wakey go down they'll struggle just as much, if not more, in that league due to not having a ground. They might have managed in 2009 with their own ground, but will struggle to get fans to travel a further distance to watch a lower standard of rugby than they are used to. That's the reality of it.
They will struggle massively if they go down. I doubt they'll even make it to the Championship if they do what you think they should do and announce it as their intention![/u'"
Does this ring a bell with you?. its a bit contradictory to your other post where you are now agreeing with her highness, she must have really made an impression on you squire, your even using her terminology now asking me to keep up and spewing bile at you and perhaps you would like to show me where I have shown abuse to you, did I say to you that Hull had a crap team crap ground etc, no I merely responded by by saying for all that we can still live with your club apart from the finances, after all where would you be if it was'nt for Gateshead and of course, you now play in a state of the art Council stadium betcha would'nt be talking about our crap ground if you were still at the booolevard eh, and if I have misinterpreted anything you have said its either because you have not explained properly or more than likely you cannot make your mind up what to say because our lady friend has got inside your head, don't say I did not warn you ![Laughing icon_lol.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_lol.gif) calm down give yer head a shek lad ![Rolling Eyes icon_rolleyes.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_rolleyes.gif)

| Quote ="Ceejames"A ludicrous offer because the new ground does not exist. and may never exist.
Has this been spelled out in the shareholders letter?'"
I'm finding myself inclined to agree with you here. It does not look good at all.
Still completely disagree with your other point about saying they should announce that they are going down at the end of the season, and always will (and have given my reasons enough times), but we might as well agree to disagree on this one.

| Quote ="Starbug"I would suggest you are wrong , no heartland club will find enough investement either from their normal fan base or a single type investor without a guarantee , you know this , the RFL know this , there is no guarantee , because there is no level they need to reach , so the only way it will happen is if a club currently IN SL fails financially
As for your ' rant ' about Leigh , that is just pathetic , it doesn't bother me because I dot want Leigh in a ' Licenced ' SL , you are correct , we are not strong enough to survive , let alone contribute to a SL with the current system'"
i thought it was quite funny.lol

| As for people blaming this on the licensing system... give it a rest. If P&R was still about, do these people think that Wakefield wouldn't be in this situation anyway?
