Why are comparisons being made with sports in other countries?
Totally irrelevant form both Dally and GF. Though Dally has chosen to show RL against only Union in OTHER COUNTRIES which is even more absurd.

Nope...but either way, Aviva Premiership gets more than ESL....hope that helps.
AFL 5hits all over the NRL and although the Union game is a state competition down here, it is all that can be compared to the NRL......and it too gets bigger average gates than NRL....hope that helps as well
It really is a shame that after having the biggest attended round, ever, the NRL seem to have dropped the ball so to speak. The Suns have sold more memberships than the Titans....which is a concern.......and the fact that the Suns got 27,914 to their game...a figure that the Titans have only ever beaten twice....and not since 2007
As for French Rugby Union? A tad unfair on yourself dally messenger, give there is no League to compare it with and a nice touch that you belittle the French Union crowds, but support their raiding of All Black stars
Oh, joedynamo, pointing out spelling errors and or minor differences in figures that are reported is not part of a reasoned debate...it is a habit picked up from having very little to add to the debate in the first place

Audience demographics.......but I have no doubt the NRL will get a better deal this time around. Problem is, a decent Toyota Land cruiser retails at about AU$90k whilst a Range Rover Vogue is about AU$195,000 on the road....like it or not, the demographic of your average Union fan differs from that of your average league fan..........advertisers will pay more to get in front of wealthier eyeballs....and your public schoolboy rah rah is deemed to be the wealthier......

OK...can we first agree that the total attendance for ESL up to and including round 8 is 497,105 which includes an attendance of 60,438 for the openeing weekend in Welsh Wales? 56 games with an average of 8,877. This figure was rather lazily taken from [url=http://www.slstats.org/Attendances/HERE[/url
Opening round of the Aviva Premiership included a double header at Twickenham which skews the figures, but still....over 48 games of the AP from round 1 to round 8 inclusive 525,239 people attended games.......or an average of 10,942.
More "ppl" have attended the Aviva Premiership Rugby Championship than the equivalent ESL rounds. More people, less games and an average that is nearly 20% bigger than League.
So...you are wrong. Still...I am sure you will come back with some attempt at wittyness......but I would suggest that if you are going to issue a challenge.....you do a little more research

I think SANZAR got 500 million for S15 and the Tri-nations (soon to be 4 nations with Argentina on board)...if the NRL gets 1 billion for the next 5 years that's about 824k a game including SOO.
SANZARS deal is for 1/2 billion, so they only get 730k a game including internationals.
I think the current NRL deal is worth 620k a match at the moment, so until the new deal kicks in, I believe that Union gets more per game...which is odd given nobody watches it

OK. Thanks Joe.
He may annoy some people, but he does know what he's on about with regards to marketing, sales and attendances. Even if it is things that some of us on here don't like to hear. Attendances to membership ratios in oz are quite low. Moreso as some of the memberships clubs have given out to kids are free. It's facts we have to face up to. Learn from and improve, not always point the finger at other sports. Fuçk the other sports. Let's concentrate on our product.

Ta for that.
One of the biggest thrills I get from what I do is "finding a solution" to a problem.
More than the money...which is still nice, I like to look at a problem faced by a client and
Come up with a way of solving it.
The NRL for example has the better product but still needs to SELL it every week. Personally
I would take 10% of each clubs TV money and plough it into a central marketing fund.....I would be helping teams like the sharks get their gates back up and I would also look into a couple of blockbuster double headers getting 90k to games......
...But, unlike some on here, the first thing the NRL needs to do is forget about the other codes.
Afl and union will chug along doing what they do......and so long as they aren't nicking fans from league clubs, who really gives a fu(k?

That may change somewhat over rounds 10 and 11.

Yep, Id agree. RL in the UK has a whole heap of problems, a fractured supporter base being just one. We're not down and out, but we have lost direction somewhere along the way imho.

I believe the current NRL deal is 750 mil for 5 years.......240 games a season, + finals, + SOO about 600k a game all in. SANZAR is about half a billion...for about 670 games over 5 years including Tri nations and finals games.....so 740k a game.
Currently, Union gets more per game.

Nope.....what you'll get is 820k a game...80k a game more than SANZAR and their deal will improve as well given the Argentinians are joining........so I reckon that the deals will be pretty equal on a game for game basis
canal+ pay top dollar for the 14 thingy in France, SKY UK fork out equal cash for Union as they do for SL and the dutch beer cup is worth even more to the IRB.........add to that the international weight Union has and yet again, you come across as a small minded sports nazi.....with nothing to add to the debate other than abuse.

But they wont be the same, will they. An international comp, based on provincial/ state sides, across two (soon to be three continents) will be worthless than an Australasian comp
Thats prolly why the Aru, Nzru NSWru, Qru, and various assorted NZ unions are heavily in debt and, in australia, losing market share, spectators/ audiences and money.
You are right about one thing gutts, some ppl in ere need to start thinking more about Rugby League and less about other sports.
