Do you really think afl and union fans sit around all day discussing rugby league? The more you talk about something, the more strength you give to its cause. The more you feel the need to bag something, the more it shows that you feel threatened by it. Stop being so insecure.

I doubt whether AFL fans or Union fans even know the NRL exists.

By the look of things the Sydney based RL fans seem to have the same problem.

If the AB's win the RUWC then league fans will applaud.....if the Warriors win the NRL union fans will be delighted......it's only in dally messengers small head that this massive divide exists........

Was watching the 7's from Australia today...I reckon if the NRL do get loads of cash, that's where they should be looking to nick players from.....it really is a cracking game....and the players are as fit as tour de france cyclists (without the drugs).....

nope.....NZ Sports fans are a fickle lot, but Rugby Union is and always will be the No1 sport in NZ. For more reasons than I can be ar5ed going into, the whole country, if asked, would always say Union was the national sport with cricket and netball ahead of League.
That said...attendances are terrible....and the WRFU had to flex their muscles last week to get a story retracted

The tide is changing.The opening round for the Warriors drew over 38k this year more the yawnion.So if yawnion was the number 1 sport then how come RL gets bigger attendance?

Advertising revenue during S15 rugby generates 8 times the revenue of any other advertising in NZ. The reason for this is that agriculture is the No1 industry in NZ......we have a few cattle/sheep over here in case you didn't know......and these rural types don't watch masterchef........they like their kick and clap.
Union has a long and distinguished heritage here in NZ........[size=200but[/size.......

....this is a new country. Auckland, where 1.2 million people live (4.8 mill population) is a real multi-cultural area and Manakau (where the warriors are based) has the highest Maori/Pacifika based population in the country.....and Leaue is their sport of choice, along with, believe it or not, Basketball (FKW?).........but across the country, win the WC or not.....Union is the 1 sport that people here follow......League can make inroads, but it will never overtake Union.....ever.
Anyone who thinks otherwise needs their bumps looking at........

NZ won the 2008 WC,then last year they won the 4 nations in a spectacular win in the dying seconds.

As much as we all love RL I think we can all agree that the popularity of the sport in Sydney has been greatly exaggerated.

With everything going for it the Roosters v the Tigers game couldnt even break the 20.5k barrier.

Epic fail.

It's not as though the game was even showed live on TV, it was on delay on 9.


Yet on Friday the Waratahs got over 20.5k to the SFS (against a side that arent even from the same country) and now we are seeing that over 28,000 went to ANZ to watch the AFL.

These are 2 sports that the trolls are telling us NO ONE follows.


Tragic really.
