Tom Wood, Tom Croft and Callum Clark would be ahead of him at the moment. If England bring in either Armitage or Matt Kvesic at 7, they could even move Robshaw to 6 which IMO better fits his skill set.

Sam Burgess is a massively talented rugby player. He isn't and shouldn't want to be one of the "specialists" required by the game of Union whose required "skills" bear no relation to those of a rugby player. I agree. His attributes are perfectly suited to rugby league so why waste them? It's like using the Flying Scotsman for shunting duty in a old goods yard. A ridiculous waste.

The attributes which make Burgess a great RL forward are simply not as valuable in RU. In Rl he can make 30+ tackles plus any number of hitups. He has a great engine as well as power. In RU he'll be running into bigger forwards from a much shorter run-up, which will negate his impact with the ball, and he simply won't need to make as many tackles.

He won't be hob-nobbing with anybody unless he gets back into the England team and is a star player. He's going to lose the coaching staff who have been seen to be biased in his favour in selecting him for this world cup. I just can't see him waltzing back into the England team for a long time.

Just hope Caddick/Hetherington do the right thing. Sell a role with Rhinos to Sam - get him the right house etc, sort out travel for his girlfriend etc and, if they get a move on, they could just pull this off. The boost it would give would cover the finances of it, even with the release fee Bath would want. Well he was left out of Bath's squad that played at the weekend even though the other England WC guys played and apparently he was in attendance at Leigh for the England vs France game whilst the Bath game took place.

Does suggest that his RU career could be coming to an end.

Whilst there will be lots of negative publicity ("RL failure" etc) if he jumps ship early, in the medium term it would be great if he comes back having failed, as it will hopefully lessen the impetus for RU to sign other RL players. He wasn't the only one getting stick, I see Farrell did too, so the influence of ex-RL players will hopefully diminish.

I've said on the Leeds forum that I'm not actually sure I'd want him at Leeds. Not in the playing sense, that's a no-brainer, but because of the potential impact on the team ethos that's been built up over a decade. In fact the more I think about it I'd only want him at Leeds if he was paid within the existing structure - the marquee player clause is exactly the sort of thing that could lead to big disruption within a squad (its not like Tomkins at Wigan who was already on big money before he left).
