so with briscoe and a second row in the centres we would be in with a shout.

If the backline consisted of Briscoe, Atkins, Shenton and Hall it would be pretty big and physical
Before people jump on me, I'm not saying they are the best three quarters that England / GB have ever had but they are all pretty good athletes

| They are Dunbar, im certainly not Atkins' biggest fan as a rugby player but he is a true 'athlete'. Briscoe's a freak of a boy, Halls big enough and Shenton will be class. The problem with the latter for me is for 6'4 or whatever he is, i bet he's only about 14 stone, he should be bigger than he is.

He certainly doesn't appear capable of inspiring a team, not the most articulate person in the world. However, I personally believe our biggest weakness is the lack of intensity in the SL, our players just aren’t mentally strong enough to get anywhere near Australia. We have athletes that are more than capable of physically matching them, mentally we are weak and that won’t change until SL Players are used to competitive games every week.

| i agree the coach doesnt fill me with confidence, and i have reservations about our lack of quality in the backs. but i think attitude is a factor as well.once saw an interview with mark little and he said that in australia only winning counts and they consider 2nd place merely means your the 1st loser and not 2nd best.in england we tend to applaud a gallant loser and i wonder if the english sporting attitude just doesnt have enough killer instinct and the "were not beat til its over" mentality that the aussies have.
dont know if the calibre of weekly opposition we face compared to them is as relevant because in nrl they still have weaker sides in their comp, relatively speaking

| Quote ="Barry_McKenzie"Then thats why you are a big a loser as your team.
You cant see why hitting the weights hard during a tournament is a bad thing?
The team should be working on set plays and studying the opposition not hitting the gym and pushing out 100 kilo sets. The sides strength training should have been completed a long time ago.
Aerobic fitness is the right way forward at this stage of things.
Consider this conversation ended.'"
Yo know nothing about Englands training methods (or anyone else's) and you hav'nt got a clue about elite athlete preparation.
If I'm wrong then please elaborate about the periodization used by the England team. Tell me what the physiological and biomechanical considerations have been during the season and the short time they've had post season.
What are they doing nutritionally to ensure they gain maximum benefit from the macrocyclic and unit periodization.
Now off to wikipedia with ya to try and fathom an answer that anyone with real knowledge of the subject can get hysterical over.

| I think Englands biggest weakness is not having the mental strangth to believe we can beat Australia. Every time we play the Kiwis (World Champions) we give them a game or beat them. When we play the aussies we don't concentrate, go in hard or stick to any kind of game plan. It's like two different teams.

Martyn Sadler and Dave Hadfield have been talking about this in the final Rugby League podcast of the season on the Independent's website.
Anyone heard it? Dave reckon's Liam Farrell of Wigan might have been worth selecting. www.independent.co.uk/sport/gene ... 39395.html

Liam Farrell is a good young player and I would guess that if his team had not made the Grand Final he would have been asked to join the train on squad
But, when you have back row options of the likes of Burgess, Ellis, Tomkins, Westwood, O'loughlin and Harrison, it's unfortunate for Farrell that he is in one of most competitive positions for England

| It's out wide that we'll get killed (again). Until we have a couple of wing/centre partnerships that can attack AND defend our chances of winning anything are zilch.
Unfortunately, it doesn't matter who we pick or who gets left at home. We don't have anyone in this country that can defend against a first choice Aussie backline.

Good job we won't be playing against a first choice Aussie backline then

I had to laugh when I read this bit
Monagahan said the Kiwi squad is full of players that ended the season in good form and will provide a "genuine test" for the Aussies. "The likes of Jeremy Smith, Greg Eastwood and Bronson Harrison were dominant in the second half of the year at club level and I think are ready to make their mark on the international stage," he said
Yes, Greg Eastwood was the dominent forward in Super League for the second half of the season... none of the English forwards came close!

| I'd say our tendancy to play for 65 minutes instead of 80 and the inability to close a game down [ishould [/iwe get into a winning position.
