At what point did i say what your intimating.
Im merely making the point that at this time the picture cant be taken seriously, as no planning permission for either the north or south stands has been submitted so fans of Leeds or other clubs shouldnt get excited about seeing a brand new redeveloped Headingley appear in the next 12 months.

| Looks good for the home fans but as already said its pretty pathetic that the away end is not covered
I mean how much would it cost to put a roof over the terracing?
Without development we could realistically see Wigan, Saints, Warrington, Salford, Widnes, Huddersfield, Hull, Quins and Catalans having better stadia than Leeds in a few years

I agree, however you werent merely making this point. You specifically said that this should be 'treated with the same scorn' as other proposed developments...I thought i made clear why i thought this was ridiculous.
Do you not agree that because of the massively differing circumstances* between Leeds and the other clubs you mentioned, the statement: 'it needs be treated with the same scorn as Wakefield, Salford and Castlefords proposed developments' is a ridiculous statement to make?
*i.e. that Leeds definately dont (unlike the other clubs mentioned) need to pretend to be further ahead with their stadium plans, than they in fact are, in order to get a license next time around, and the fact that their current license wasnt awarded based on a stadium development plan, which has subsequently fallen through (again unlike the other clubs you mentioned).

I agree completely.
According to posters on here, the problem isnt one of cost, its to do with the houses behind the stand. But cant they just make it as low a roof as possible (rather than a really high one such as the carnegie stand), and buy the local residents agreement with a few free season tickets or something like that?

I didnt mention the licensing criteria at all. The scorn is merely that some other clubs have produced fancy pics and videos but have nothing in reality to show for it
I fully agree with you that Leeds are not under threat of relegation.
However if they dont improve Headingly soon, they will become the butt of a lot of sniping from various parts of the RL community.

have Leeds every actually made plans to put a roof over the away end and tried to get planning permission? if not how do they know what would be 'acceptable' or not to the residents. Sounds like a cheap excuse for giving away fans such poor facilities IMO
also surely it woulden't be that costly to just buy the row of houses and demolish them, not in the context of a 10million+ redevelopment anyway.

Headingley is different to most of the other older stadia in that a) an old infrastructure hasn't prevented it being updated on a practical level - plenty has been spent on the place over the years; whilst the two main stands are certainly nearly life-expired, SS in particular, it isn't exactly Knowlsey Rd/Belle Vue/River Caves b) the people who ultimately make the decisions will only ever see the inside of the corporate side of the ground which is bigger and better than any other in the league

| If they can't put a roof on, I don't see why they don't just demolish the stand, move the pitch right up to where it used to be, and then extend the other stand? They'd have to dig down though to be able to make the Carnegie Stand deeper (more terracing though at least), but they could always sell the extra earth to Bradford to raise the pitch as part of their redevelopment

| For the alleged richest team in the League the ground and the facilities are woefull. One end uncovered, half the South stand taped off out of bounds cos it's falling down. Pitch like a sand pit courtesy of the Union club, hardly any decent public Bar area's. The list goes on! I'll believe it when I see it when Mr Hetherington & Co spend any money on it.

You'd lose the capacity of the Western Terrace, but you'd make it back and more on extending the Carnegie Terracing, and being able to make the new North Stand longer. Would take a hell of a lot of digging though. Would make Headingley much better however, and you could also use the area where the Western Terrace used to be into the new tunnel, with a screen, sponsors around it, etc. It could be like WWE!

Bit harsh, wellsy's posts are normally well thought out and make a lot of sense, this one was a idea tho, he must have been joking...it would be far easier to just try to get planning permission, and if anyone challenges it, just buy their agreement...5 or 6 houses would be effected, give each of em a few thousand not to appeal the new stand. Would doing so be legal?

Certainly was a p*sstake. Wouldn't ever seriously happen, but would be cool if it did! I said before that they should do the whole screen/entrance thing at Bradford with their corporate stand. Would fit in with the way they (used to) have their pre-match entertainment quite nicely I think!
Can't see them buying the houses behind Headingley though. They'd have to buy 8 houses behind it to make it work, and I can't see them ever being that bothered to do that for the sake of an away stand. They can only have a certain capacity IIRC due to the area it's in, so even if the crowds do build to that point, they'd have a whole list of other problems before buying the houses (and getting permission from the residents) before increasing capacity,

But away fans like to all be together. If they're going to send the majority of tickets to their clubs for the Western Terrace, then the club are going to push that on them so they can get their cut. Hence they'll end up there.
