| I didn't know he'd played the game before. That makes a big difference, will he be able to cope without a pre-season. He'd be playing Rugby non-stop for nearly 18 months.

So you think a game of Rugby lasts for 24 hours a day and there is one played every day of the week for 18 months?

If we're paying a fair wedge for Powell then I'd expect a lot of minutes out of him. A lot more than Paleaaesina that's for sure. You've also compared him to one of the props with the least time on the field in Super League and one of the most out of shape in the modern game. I think my comparisons are better and expect people to want a Peacock or a Graham type player than a quarter of the game Paleaaesina if we pay that much to sign him.

No Barry, you ignorant get, of course not. But he has been training non-stop for all that time, the body needs rest. I'm not calling the lad, i've never seen him play. All i'm saying is he has had hardly any recovery time for his body to rest. From what people are saying now, he's had an injury, which is good if he makes the switch as the rest of his body has rested.

He will play more minutes than Paleaasina, I was just pointing out that he isnt too fat and unfit to play SL like you were trying to claim. Also in value for money terms he will bring a lot more fans hence money into the stadium than a NRL prop would do

| Palea'asina is an impact player though.
Do you reckon he's got the kind of stamina that James Graham and Jamie Peacock have. If he has, an 80 minute prop can be a massive asset.

| I get which angle you are coming from on this CJ, I hate Union too. But Wales need good players and Crusaders need Welsh players, if he can do it, sign him. It's good media, good for RL in my opinion. I just wish I could find out what he's like without Barry McKenzie butting in!

He's an inch shorter than Peacock and a stone and a half heavier. That is fact. I wasn't saying he was unfit but he isn't as fit as the elite props in the league. If we're paying elite prop wages than that is what I want. Why wouldn't I want it if we're paying enough money to have one.
That's like buying a car that costs the same as a ferrari but runs like a fiesta. Put bluntly if you wanted performance you wouldn't buy it.
Can you explain how Powell brings fans into the ground bearing in mind the Welsh union fans will already have read about the Crusaders and been alerted to the club when Alfie signed?

Who, the club or the player?
Powell will be coming here for money, nothing less nothing more. If he loved the game then he would be here now as Wigan offered him a decent deal to play rugby league a year or so back.
The club are very serious but I think they are going about it the wrong way. Gimmicky union signings might create a bit of a stir initially but when we're not getting the wins the fans will fade away. Top quality rugby league players will get the team winning and a winning team is the best publicity and marketing any club can do bar none.

| That said, if we sign him I'll support him as I will all the other lads in the shirt.
I just feel we could spend the money, and achieve more using it, more wisely.

| I see your point, you're probably right. A really good Super League star would probably be better for the club. It's quite hard from the outside looking in at what's good for a newer club when you support a heartlands team.

No Welsh player we would have signed could have caused more media interest than Gareth Thomas, maybe Henson, and we have been there and done that. The crowds have faded down to around 4,000 hardcore and dropped away with our performance levels. What I am asking fans of the club is do we want another union signing that will create a minor percentage of the media interest that Alfie did or do we want to strengthen the team with a top quality signing that will not be learning the game for the rest of the season and will improve the team definitely as a result of his signing. To me it is a no brainer.
And before we get the he played rugby league until he was fourteen. I did a lot of things until I was 14. It doesn't mean I can go back and be world class now and world class is what I would expect for the money we'd be paying.

Well said mate. What Crusaders and the Scorpions need to do is keep on trying to get the Welsh youngsters interested in our game and i know some people will say that if the Crusaders sign RU players kids will stand up and take notice but not necessarily so we just need development staff in say Wrexham and the surrounding areas and yes i know the Scorpions are bringing young welsh talent through and long may it continue.

Why do you think any player comes over from the NRL to play in super league? For the weather? Do you want them all out of the Crusaders club?
And do you seriously think the Crusaders will be giving him a pay rise? Do you realise how much international RU players earn? Here is a link to what England players get. Wales will be slightly lower but not too far of this mark. £12000 for a win £8000 for a loss this is on top of club salaries

So you think after one signing and being in the papers for a week, everyone in North Wales now knows all about the Crusaders and the new sport of rugby league. This shows your a moron, you dont think media coverage is important to a new club in a new region for the game.

Am I the moron here or is it not you who started a Scorpions for Super League thread?
Scorpions who are just over 6 months old and are currently mid table in a league two leagues lower than Super League.
Now there is a moron taking part in this debate and I know who my money is on.
