Shaun Johnson is a joy to watch when he is on song. He is the kid on the touch football field playing with the big boys.

And he is no slouch in defence either. He has run down many speedy rivals to save tries for his team.

But it is his speed and footwork in attack that sets a game alight. His try against Cronulla that won the game was pure magic. And then he did something almost as good against Parramatta. Give him a little bit of open field play and he will dazzle!

There's been a couple of games over the last weeks, where I've seen him do something and then had to rewind it thinking 'how the bloody hell did he do that?'. A freak - in the best possible sense. I bet even he doesn't know how he does it.

Well, quite. You just *don't* leave defenders of the quality of Cam Smith and GI clutching at thin air. But SJ can.

The highlights video for the Storm/Warriors game is ridiculous, we literally have the best sport in the world.

Shaun Johnson is a freak of nature.

The way he sidestepped Cameron Smith and then the full back Munster was amazing. See the look on Johnson's face. It's like a magician who has just performed a magic trick and acts like he can't believe that he did it. But Shaun Johnson is not acting. He really gets blown away with amazement at his own brilliance.

Another delight in that game (and there were so many) was when Johnson broke away into the clear and pinned his ears back but then realised that Marika Koroibete was running him down. Johnson is one of the fastest men in the NRL so Koroibete must be in the top 3 fastest.

Well it's a easier to run without the ball than with it, but there are a lot of very fast guys in the NRL now. Roberts is incredibly quick, as is Tedesco.

James Roberts, nephew of former Wigan superstar Amos Roberts, is probably the fastest man in the NRL. I always thought that Shaun Johnson was one of the top 5, but Marika Koroibete may well be one of the top 3. Tedesco could be one of the top 5, along with Mitchell Pearce.

If you look at Shaun Johnson's highlights video you will see that Shaun Johnson running with the ball is faster than both William Slater and Gregory Inglis chasing him while running without the ball.

That's because he is faster than both of them. Doesn't mean it's easier to run with the ball.

That was precisely my point.

Shaun Johnson has also shown himself faster with the ball than a James Tedesco in pursuit.

I agree with this.....If Shaun Johnson had scored that try the world would be shouting from the rooftops!!

But Shaun Johnson scores such tries almost every week. And he makes world class stars like Cameron Smith and Gregory Inglis look ordinary. That is why people are always shouting from the rooftops.

Did you see the try Shaun Johnson just scored against Newcastle?

He ran across field, dummying his way past about 6 Newcastle players, before reaching over in between two defenders to score in the corner.

Was top quality this morning, as was the second half performance from the Warriors in general.

I've over indulged on NRL this weekend, trouble is Super League looks a bit flat by comparison. ☺

To be fair, they were playing easily the worst team in the comp.

Not sure about Mitchell Pearce or Cooper Cronk in that list, they are not top flight speedsters, certainly not over distance.

Pretty definite Reece Robinson should not be there either as he does not play in the NRL

If you look at Shaun Johnson highlights reels on You Tube you will find Mitchell Pearce almost catching Shaun Johnson over a long run to the try line (though carrying the ball is a factor).

Marika Koroibete easily ran down Shaun Johnson when Shaun had made a break.

Reece Robinson was in the NRL when I wrote that. He almost ran down Shaun Johnson in trying to stop a try. Gregory Inglis could not do that when he had a chance.

Also Inglis was far behind Jarryd Hayne in a 100 metre combined rugby league-rugby union athletic sprint won by a rugby union player (Lachy?), where Hayne was the fastest rugby league contender but came third.

I forgot to dd that in Monday's game Shaun Johnson helped create two other tries apart from his own, with magnificent passing in motion, and with acrobatic backing up and passing Harlem Globetrotters style almost.

You look at players that have blinding acceleration like Jennings and then players that have top end speed like the Morris Twins.
Then you look at players that have both like Johnson and Roberts, their running styles are similar, they glide over the ground like a Gazelle.
