Yes, you need an ID number from the RFL, they send you one when you pass your coaching course. There are 4 sections, Childrens, Community, Performance and High Performance.
I've got a Level 2 qualification, that gives me access to the Community section. It's pretty good and seems to have improved recently. Fairly basic stuff but well presented.
My only gripe - I don't quite know why they restrict access to 'higher' level stuff ('Performance' and 'High Performance') - surely it would be advantageous to allow coaches to expand their knowledge?
I've also got a Coaching Skills CD the RFL send when you pass Level 2.

Yeah I'm Level 2 as well. Ive tried signing up for the website loads of times it just keeps saying they'll be in touch to let me know when I can access the website.
I've given up emailing the RFL about coaching/coach development issues since they either don't reply or it takes 6 months.
Harrumph! I never got a coaching skills CD! Barstewards.

things seemed to get a little confused when they switched to Coachwise as the booking administrator for courses. What i'd suggest is that instead of ringing Community Game Services try your local Coaching Developemnt Officer directly...ours in Greater Manchester is Steve Malloy and always helpful

Yeah cheers I will do. I was trying not to bother our development officer to be honest because I know he's always very busy so was trying to do the legwork myself but I don't have much option now.
Like you say things got confused with the Coachwise switchover and with the switch to UKCC I think everything got in a bit of a mess at the RFL!

I'll PM you the email of the chap at the RFL who sent me my ID number. I only got mine after chasing it up, and I've still never received my coaching ID card, despite chasing that up as well.

Carl Jennings has some good articles on fitness and conditioning, you need to register and he'll send a password but it's good stuff: www.carljenningsscc.com/
There's some good stuff on YouTube as well - League and Union. I often have a look on there for new drills
Sportplan has a good set of drills, you can register free and view them for a short time - I'd suggest copying them before your membership expires: www.sportplan.com/drills/Rugby-League/index.jsp

ARL dev site.

I remember I had something called "pass catch kick tackle" you could perhaps buy somewhere.
Apparently Australian coaches are superhuman so let me know if there is anything you learn over there that's different from over here.

| Slightly off topic . Does anyone use hoops for passing practice ?
I was asked to fabricate some . Adjustable for both height and hoop size . The idea being that the kids pass the ball through the hoops as they run past them . As they get better at passing through the hoops you can reduce the size of the hoop . The height adjustment makes the hoops useable by all ages .

A couple of particularly unruly kids at our sessions have learnt what they are too

| A good fitness training drill is to split the team in half. Then put one half on one side of the pitch/track and the other half on the other side. The aim is the first team to lap the other team. For example, the fastest player on half A has to lap everysingle player on half B then they have completed it. Also it is good for teamwork becuase if they competetive they wont want peaple letting them down.
Too complicated or do you understand?!

So basically they do laps until they throw up and you get away with it by dressing it up as a game?
I like it!

The better way to do that exercise is to split them into 4 and make a rule that they cannot be anymore than 10 metres apart as a group, eg the front man of group a and the back man of group a have to be 10 metres or less from each other.
That way you are promoting team work at the same time as no one player can go off on his own, they have to encourage each other to stay together as a pack and take over the group in front as a team.

Problem with that is what about if group B is faster than group A? They would have to slow down? The thing with the original idea is that they can run at there fastest pace becuase not everyone one runs the same pace.

| A technique we experimented with to the latter end of this summer season was mixing up the fitness and technique work. Before we might have done fitness, skills, gameplan, or skills, gameplan, fitness, of 30 minutes or so each. What we started to do was mix those together: So we might do 5 minutes of a technique exercise, followed by a three minute burst of fitness work (all our fitness work was typically based on interval sprints and hitting something, whether a shield or the ground, or a bag) and then back to the technique work. These would be in blocks of around 20 minutes, before a water break and then a change of the two drills. This gets the players used to having to execute a skill when fatigued.

Ther whole point of the drill is to catch the team in front and get yourself out of the game for a rest whilst the othjer three carry on.
You cant have one of your fastest running off and catching them in front, you have to work as a group to stcik in a pack and catch the group in front, who are in turn trying to avoid you catching them but also catch the group in front of them whilst staying close together.
