| His Dad has always been critical of the club. Maybe needs to form a WhatsApp group with Liam Watts’ father?
In this new approach, there’s going to be casualties along the way. Some we don’t always agree with. Whatever happens, this bullish approach is better than the chronic malaise we’ve endured since 2018.

| The story on Total RL is:
CASTLEFORD TIGERS have swooped for Hull FC forward Nick Staveley, League Express understands.
The 21-year-old has played just eight games for Hull FC after debuting for the club in 2023, but did play 13 times for Newcastle Thunder in 2023.
League Express understands that Staveley has joined the Tigers on a trial basis after agreeing terms with Hull FC to leave the Super League club.
Castleford have been crying out for new firepower in their forward pack, with head coach Danny McGuire previously revealing that a deal for Salford Red Devils prop Jack Ormondroyd was on the “back-burner”.
The Tigers only currently have George Griffin, Liam Watts, George Lawler and Muizz Mustapha in the front-row.

| [quote="Hasbag":16momsfj]The deadline thing is also for players signing for next year, which if that's the case then fair enough, but this sounds like we could be releasing him immediately and leaving ourselves a player down (and one of the most promising looking ones) for the upcoming season. That's 2 players down so far in 2025![/quote:16momsfj]
The impact the new rule has though is that are clubs really going to want to keep around players for a full season who’ve already agreed to move on before a ball has been kicked? I’d agree with you, he’s good enough to contribute in 2025 so I’d let him see out his contract. Myler hinted in his article last week otherwise though, Wakefield also said the same about the lad who signed for Rovers. It’s up to us to adapt to the new dynamic.
The good thing for us is after the Myler article and Wilfs hint on here I looked at the contract list and it was only really Staveley who stood out as someone who we’d potentially lose who we didn’t want too, we’ve seemingly moved quickly to protect everyone else for now with that in mind.

He is/was your number 28. Your 8th or 9th prop?
I think fans of both Hull and Rovers overhype specific players before they have really done anything. I’m not trying to be y, so I’ll use a Rovers example - Will Oakes. He’s carved out an entirely respectable career in the Championship and is number 25 at Batley. Side Note - Sammy Kibula is their number 18, Josh Woods is their 7 (see below).
Fans go on about the Wigan and Saints model but miss the level of attrition those clubs have. It’s a constant cycle of mostly ‘failure’ in terms of making it in SL - and emotional investment in these kids’ prospects or fear of ‘the one that got away’ potentially makes that harder and maybe slower if it seeps into the club’s thinking.
Wigan players with squad numbers above 25 in 2018:
Jack Wells, Callum Field, Liam Forsyth, Jack Higginson, Gabriel Hamlin, Joe Bretherton, Caine Barnes, Macauley Davies, Josh Woods, Oliver Partington (the stand out success from the group), Samuel Kibula, James Worthington, Craig Mullen, Liam Paisley
Saints 2018 was basically the same thing, but I have gotten as bored of typing names that look like they’ve been randomly generated by Football Manager as you likely are of reading them. Saints only went as high as number 30 though. https://www.totalrl.com/st-helens-revea ... sons-kits/
If somebody wants to check other years to see if this was an outlier… then you’re as sad as me, but I’d be interested.
It really isn’t worth FANS worrying about players with these sorts of squad numbers, imo.

Good post, I think the concern is he looked good the start of last year. Although in hindsight this may have been an early indicator of the quality of player we had at the club. I expect him to go on and do ok though, which is a shame but he's not a local lad so there's maybe less desire from him to stick it out and have a go.

| Probably our 4th backrower and considering 3 will play, he would have been next in line if we had any injuries.
You have to trust the club and the reasons for releasing him.
Just hope we have a plan, can't just keep letting players go without replacing them.

I thought we were a back rower short before this so would like to think we’d be in for a replacement. Chamberlain may be used there now but him and Holmes can’t be relied upon week in week out. And Fash certainly isn’t a back rower.

Unless the club under the new Coaching set up havent seen Staveley as part of the plans moving forward then we have to trust their judgement. If however he’s pushed for the move to Cas then I can’t help but think he’s been poorly advised. Looking at Cas so far they look a very poor side and it would seem he’d be leaving a Hull side that has made significant changes within the club to move forward to go to a club that seems so far to be in a similar position we were in last couple of seasons.
If the move his doing I’d be surprised he’s chosen a move to Cas over giving it a go under the new ownership and coaching set up.

| To me just another 'prospect' - to me never looked likely to command a starting position, even with the odd injury.
Is the reality that such guys actually become the blockers for the young guys coming through who have more potential, ambition & buy in to the new culture ?
For me I am over the moon the new regime are content to make changes - if they fail the attitude test then time to move on.
Regarding Cocie Wainhouse, sad to hear suggestions that he may be going the same way. BUT some on here have MASSIVELY bigged him up which could actually be the problem ? Great to read Carty's comments boosting players but balancing it with reason - 'He has loads to learn' or @physically he isn't there' .

| Theres been issues bubbling for 4 weeks now and you have to trust the clubs new managements judgement here you have to have a settled group and group dynamics are as important as levels of ability at that age. I wouldn’t bother listening to his dad he’s bound to be loyal but on past experience he doesn’t appear to like the club much either

As out of towners there's no loyalty to the club from their side. From what I remember there was a bit of beef before Nick signed his last contract so who knows what's gone on. His dad will want the best for his son, and rightly so, but it may be that this is the best outcome for everyone, especially as Cas look awful.

As you say Pete as a club we need all individuals that are at the club that genuinely want to be a part of it, particularly in the playing side of things.
Thankfully we now have owners and a Coach that are on the same page and not afraid to make the changes needed even if that means we suffer a little pain in the short term.
I think Myler alluded to that in a couple of his interviews early doors when he mentioned we may lose some popular or promising players on the journey to rebuild the club.
For me after being fortunate enough to have a chat with Cartwright he speaks with brutal honesty and certainly seems to be fully focused on the job in the here & now and also the future to come. He certainly is strikes me as a guy that will back you all the way if you commit and likewise if you take the mick you’ll face consequences in a firm and fair way not vindictive.
As much as I can understand Staveley Snr will want what he perceives as the best for his lad I can’t help but think that they way he acts does hamper his sons progress.

Agree, but I guess he has signed for a proper club for next year and has negotiated a release/ been shown the door meantime.

Cant see that the new coach has had any time to make a playing judgement on him so it looks more likely that he has asked to go.

His dad said on Twitter that Staveley wasn't looking for a move. But that might not be true, of course.

Might not be anything to do with playing ability or might not have been the clubs decision, who knows.

Since I heard about it three weeks ago my mind went straight to his friendship with Pete Riding and the worries we had about Balmforth going East with him, so Rovers favourite for me.

Heaven forbid they promote from within, but best of luck to him whatever the reasons for his move are.
At the end of the today I’d rather we have a team of players that are 100% committed, if he wasn’t fully committed due to Pete Riding not been at the club then no issue with the club letting him go elsewhere.

The culture has been wrong in the club for decades now. If we lose a few in putting that right, that’s fine.
Carty & Myler give us an opportunity to finally put it right, backed by the owners.

| Perhaps Cartwright has also seen a lot of potential in Kirby or somebody like Lennon Clark aswell during pre season and thinks they will be able to fill a gap left by Staveley
